Dr. Klein, thanks to you and your colleagues for producing this channel. That includes reviewing Newtons! Been running in them since the company began prototyping here in Colorado’s Front Range, and was a Newton ambassador when I was less slow. My Over 55 marathon PR (NYC, ‘18, 3:07) was in the original Distance Elite. The new Carbon is too cushy for my tastes, at least for anything other than recovery efforts or fast-hiking on buffed dirt roads and very light trails. But like you said, plenty of other choices and I’m glad to see more of that inspiring Newton innovation.

I’ve tested this shoe and done a review of it. It was a miss for me. At least for its intended purpose. I think Newton couldn’t find a proper system for Action-Reaction technology system and the Peba/CF plate combo. The more I picked up the pace, the more I felt that it was the proprietary actuated lugs that were aiding the turnover, not the super shoe features like the foam and plate. It just didn’t have the zip compared to the many other super shoes I tested it against. Matt, I think you said it best that Newton runners could find better racing or workout options within the Newton lineup. Like the Distance Elite.

Have you gotten a chance to try the new Isaac from Newton? Looking at that one currently as Andrea mentioned in the DoR review that the previous iteration had a more accommodating fit and was a really good daily/uptempo trainer. Disappointed to hear that the CF1 was a miss for you though...

Much prefer the Distance Elite. For us Forefoot strikers Newtons are so amazing. But this shoe doesn't work well, the action and reaction technology is good already.
