When I was a nun in an enclosed order, I broke the sewing machine needle and was told to kneel with a piece of it tied around my neck and confess my sin against the vow of Holy Poverty and have broken our sewing machine needle and humble beg pardon of God, Mother Abbess and Mother Vicaress, and a penance of you Mother Abbess. So nothing belonged to the individual. I might be sent some soap and a note book from my mother and finding them left in my cell or bedroom, would need to take them to Mother Abbess and kneel and ask if I could please use them, to which I would be given a Yes Sister, only to find sometime later they would be gone. The same with a book from our library. You were not to complain or even query these matters, just accept they are not mine but ours to use. Thank you for the lesson. Easy to understand.
