Your father is right. I'm French and in my country, the word corresponding to "entertainment" in French is "divertissement" whose etymology comes from the latin word "divertire" (in the sense of moving away in another direction or giving something a different meaning from what it is) and will give today the French word "divertir", which means "to divert" in english. Among its synonyms, you have "switch", "occupy", "amuse", "deflect", "deviate" and of course "distract".

The classic celebrities did one simple thing which modern celebrities stopped. Aloofness. Classic celebrities were more cutoff and separated from society. They didn't lecture the public about their beliefs, politics and ideologies. Everything was fluff. When appearing on talk shows they would do skits, or monologue over a humorous story. If they discussed anything personal, they would talk about their diet, or something from their childhood. They maintained a mysterious quality about themselves without appearing unfriendly or guarded. It isn't an overnight change to what we have now. I think celebrities began exposing more of their natural selves in the 80s/90s and by the 2010s they had become insufferable and now that they're obsessed with politics and ideology no one wants to be in the same room with them let alone continue to adore them as special people.

First of all, I believe we should reserve our highest admiration for the people around us, not billionaires, famous athletes, or celebrities. That being said, if you think about it, Zuckerberg and Bezos for example (despite my personal dislike for both) have undeniably revolutionized aspects of our daily lives. In comparison, what have Zendaya, Kim Kardashian, or Taylor Swift contributed? We now all use online marketplaces for shopping and social media for communication, often on a daily or weekly basis, and both of those things make our lives easier. But we can easily live without knowing which cosmetic procedures or makeup trends the Jenners are promoting at the moment

Maybe if celebrities did more to help the common person, then we'd actually care about them and they'd still be relevant. Taylor Swift with her 1 billion+ empire could easily help underprivileged kids for example, but she chooses not to and hoards her wealth instead. During the 2010's, Miley Cyrus started a charity called Happy Hippie, an organization to help homeless youth, and she even brought one of the kids she helped on stage with her at an awards show. This is the type of behavior we should be seeing from celebrities - helping the less fortunate and trying to make a positive impact on the world. I have more respect for Miley than I do other celebrities since she actually seems to be a good person and wants to help others

Trump IS a celebrity. That is why people simp over him that much. Awful person. Edit: Not to mention his first lady Elon Musk.🙄

He may be a celebrity. But! People gather behind him and support him because he actually cares about this Country

You should check out the video Celebrities Have RUINED Presidential Elections by The Groove. I recommend watching the whole video but if you want a sort different pov on why Trump won as a celebrity skip to 19:33.

Why is it that when people in general gets famous, they start acting like they're full of s***?
@archangeljophiel20192 күн бұрын
R.I.P pop culture (1950s to the early 2010s) I am sticking my honest opinion that Covid, Biden era, and the Trump era killed pop culture. But way before that the Kardashians era ruined the fun out of pop culture. We should never let that family be so famous.
@monsterautomobile2 күн бұрын
its because people like you just cant stop talking about the kardashians. if u dont like them so much stop talking about them

Let them eat cake. We all know how that ended right? I guess their time has come and they can't cope. Can't be any happier. You guys should have stayed doing what you were paid to do, acting and entertaining. The moment you got into our personal space and issues, being patronizing and condescending, you lost us. But at the end you are nobody without us. Never bite the hand that feeds you.

Its so hard for me to not care about celebrities, i just cant imagine a world without them. No matter how much they are hated they will always be relevant for as long as we live because there are always people who choose to give them relevancy unfortunately I'm one of them.

0:29 Usually, but there are also plenty who are probably pretty cool and kind of want to stay lowkey. Like Hunter S Thompson or something

Chappelle roan opinion is quite fine and second of all if the paparazzi was rude to you would you confront the guy and tell him that he's wrong and disrespectful, that doesn't have nothing to do with privilege.

But not all celebrities are bad, though. I love the ones who are intelligent and inspiring. Like Denzel Washington, he's a cool guy. He doesn't like being in the public eye. Doesn't always want the spotlight. Celebs used to be cool. It's just publicity and trying to be relatable that ruins them.
@Lalaland0994 күн бұрын

Thats the thing what does "celebrities used to be cool" even mean they're people, people can be cool it has nothing to do with fame

We should bring back the ancient treatment of actors in society. "Oh, you play pretend for a living? Any idiot can do that; why do you get paid more than a garbageman or a plumber?"

@niightpassion3 күн бұрын
you're a fan of a celebrity for something they create, for example music and really loving someone's music is not cringe
@suzisuzim503 күн бұрын
@ being fan of their art is not the same thing being fan of a person. Being fan of a person is literally being a flyin monkey such as Selena Gomez’s fans or Beyonce’s fan etc because they act like the person they have been a fan of can not make mistake and everything they have been done is the right thing etc. They become very attacker to others even you just say her music is not my cup of tea they attack you. They literally doing dirty jobs of the certain celeb. And they buy all of the stupid products of the celeb so they can stay as rich. It is cult behavior and very very cringy.
@niightpassion3 күн бұрын
@suzisuzim50 it's not always like this i was, for example, a melanie martinez fan and now she's accused of rape and there's proof so i'm not defending her, but instead stopping supporting her
