My father always said that celebrities are to distract us.
@loulou7194
@loulou7194 4 күн бұрын
Your father is right. I'm French and in my country, the word corresponding to "entertainment" in French is "divertissement" whose etymology comes from the latin word "divertire" (in the sense of moving away in another direction or giving something a different meaning from what it is) and will give today the French word "divertir", which means "to divert" in english. Among its synonyms, you have "switch", "occupy", "amuse", "deflect", "deviate" and of course "distract".

The classic celebrities did one simple thing which modern celebrities stopped. Aloofness. Classic celebrities were more cutoff and separated from society. They didn't lecture the public about their beliefs, politics and ideologies. Everything was fluff. When appearing on talk shows they would do skits, or monologue over a humorous story. If they discussed anything personal, they would talk about their diet, or something from their childhood. They maintained a mysterious quality about themselves without appearing unfriendly or guarded. It isn't an overnight change to what we have now. I think celebrities began exposing more of their natural selves in the 80s/90s and by the 2010s they had become insufferable and now that they're obsessed with politics and ideology no one wants to be in the same room with them let alone continue to adore them as special people.

I was looking up "Celebrity birthdays July 10" and I was thoroughly dismayed to see TikTok "stars" cluttering up the page. James Rolfe, Nikola Tesla, and Phyllis from The Office do not deserve this. And while we're at it I don't either! And I remember doing this same search maybe 5 or so years prior; all legit and at the very least people that will be remembered 6 months from attaining such status.

What I find fascinating is that these celebrities are more rich than 99% of us will ever be, and yet their main audience are people who will, well, never be as rich as them. We are worshipping those who hoard unnecessary amounts of wealth for themselves and ask us brokies to keep buying their shitty merch. I am pro capitalism but it is… Fascinating.

First of all, I believe we should reserve our highest admiration for the people around us, not billionaires, famous athletes, or celebrities. That being said, if you think about it, Zuckerberg and Bezos for example (despite my personal dislike for both) have undeniably revolutionized aspects of our daily lives. In comparison, what have Zendaya, Kim Kardashian, or Taylor Swift contributed? We now all use online marketplaces for shopping and social media for communication, often on a daily or weekly basis, and both of those things make our lives easier. But we can easily live without knowing which cosmetic procedures or makeup trends the Jenners are promoting at the moment

Bezos success story Is also embellished bs , he had plenty of financial help from his wife. Amazon nor Facebook was revolutionary , they were just the refined copycats that won the mainstream with Bezos and Zuckerberg being at the right time/place (with the right connections). Same story with Bill Gates who stole his Idea from Gary Kildall (as well as had powerful family connections at IBM). Celebrity Isn't irrelevant nowadays either , It's just that everyone thinks they're a celebrity now thanks to a monetized souless social media culture nowadays with subs/likes , and treats every interaction with a transactional god complex . At best Zuckerberg gave every post-Facebook generation severely delusional main character syndrome.

For a time, most definitely during my youth when I had a case of hero worship, I used to think that at least one positive benefit of celebrities existing was to show that we could be much more and do far more than what we are and do now ... and that's only true if the person showed real talent and put in all the hard work. But everyone knows for a FACT that the only positive benefit to being a celebrity just for fame's sake is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!! Even those that have REAL talent and HAVE earned fame are like the rest of us - excessively fallible humans who just got FAR more wealth and media exposure than warranted, especially those who don't even know how to properly use their fame and wealth to make the world a better place in these chaotic times.

I think the gulf between talent and celebrity has got larger since the rise of social media,I don't see what a lot of people see in half of these influencers/celebs,why are they more interesting than the girl or guy down the road.

Sorry to say but Chappell has no charisma at least to me whatsoever. She just comes off as rude, insufferable, and downright ungrateful. I genuinely think she has resentment for being mainstream when all she wanted was to be “gay” famous in the community like other artists and not thrown into the likes of Olivia Rodrigo. 🤷🏻‍♀️

They play the same role Queens and kings did in the past. Their glamor, charm and power made them completely different from normal people Almost Superhuman however when problems arise and aren’t properly dealt with like extreme food shortages or celebrities visiting a R*pe island the facade fades and you see them for the out of touch and morally corrupt people they actually are.

Maybe if celebrities did more to help the common person, then we'd actually care about them and they'd still be relevant. Taylor Swift with her 1 billion+ empire could easily help underprivileged kids for example, but she chooses not to and hoards her wealth instead. During the 2010's, Miley Cyrus started a charity called Happy Hippie, an organization to help homeless youth, and she even brought one of the kids she helped on stage with her at an awards show. This is the type of behavior we should be seeing from celebrities - helping the less fortunate and trying to make a positive impact on the world. I have more respect for Miley than I do other celebrities since she actually seems to be a good person and wants to help others

R.I.P pop culture (1950s to the early 2010s) I am sticking my honest opinion that Covid, Biden era, and the Trump era killed pop culture. But way before that the Kardashians era ruined the fun out of pop culture. We should never let that family be so famous.

Let them eat cake. We all know how that ended right? I guess their time has come and they can't cope. Can't be any happier. @ being fan of their art is not the same thing being fan of a person. Being fan of a person is literally being a flyin monkey such as Selena Gomez’s fans or Beyonce’s fan etc because they act like the person they have been a fan of can not make mistake and everything they have been done is the right thing etc. They become very attacker to others even you just say her music is not my cup of tea they attack you. They literally doing dirty jobs of the certain celeb. And they buy all of the stupid products of the celeb so they can stay as rich. It is cult behavior and very very cringy.
