In Seoul, where everything is happening very quickly, there is a place where time seems to go slower. It is Hwagyesa Temple which boasts 500 years of history. What makes this temple special is that it is home to several foreign monks who practice Korean Zen Buddhism by living slowly and emptying themselves.
In the temple, the monks are living each day slowly and fully, searching for enlightenment through monastic daily routines including early morning rituals and zen meditation. To those who wish to forget everyday sufferings and find their true self, the monks say slowing down is the answer.
In the lead up to the Buddha's Birthday, we pay a visit to the International Zen Center to meet the monks and learn how to live a slow life. Let us take a peek at a simple, slow life in the temple which may help us handle fierce competition and stress in our daily life.

세계에서 가장 빠르게 변화하는 도시, 서울에도 느리게 시간이 흐르는 곳이 있다. 바로, 500년 역사의 화계사다. 이곳이 더욱 특별한 이유는 비움과 느림의 삶을 제시하는 한국 불교의 방식대로 수행하고 있는 외국인 스님들이 있기 때문이다. 오직 부처의 깨달음을 얻기 위해 한국을 찾은 외국인 스님들.. 이들은 새벽예불을 시작으로 참선과 명상 등을 통해 일상에서의 고통과 번뇌를 잊고 참된 나를 찾아 긴 수행의 길을 느리게 걷고 있다. 부처님 오신 날을 맞아 화계사 국제선원에서 수행 중인 외국인 스님들의 일상을 통해 느리게 사는 법의 진정한 의미를 살펴본다.

of course You must go to Korea. Because Tibet is under Chinese oppression Thailand and other Buddhist countries are male-dominated. The same goes for Japan. Only in Korea, women can become monks. The path to becoming a monk is easy... but it is more difficult to cut ties with the world, parents, friends, and colleagues. Can you overcome that solitude? It means being cut off from civilization... It's a very difficult life. But..if you want a new life that is honest and upright as a human being Challenge yourself.
