A kind of obscure history of WWII and the part our pilots and fighting men took part in which never gets mentioned much so it's nice seeing South Africans being remembered not forgetting the people who were there at the time on the receiving end living to tell their story it's important to them as it is to us and our history thank you all involved for this documentary

A fantastic documented piece of history. I was left curious as to the impact the attacks had on the German army? All the same, its important to understand the effects the conflict had on the people there, and the research and films a great testament to the makers. Well done.

I am in awe of the humble, respectful tones of voice used by those that remembered, and shared. I did not see hatred. I saw memories, relived, and i am grateful to those affected, for sharing. It must have been heart wrenching to have lived in those dark days, with an enemy living right in your house.

Absolutely terrific work by all involved. Thanks to all for revealing this small piece of a very big, long, terrible war. Such documentaries put a human face on history and remind us that big events are made up of many smaller ones. The films taken from the noses of those Beaufighters is breathtaking in it's quality and puts you right there when it was happening. I'm just in awe.

Thanks for sharing Tinus. The film footage is so clear and sharp, for a moment i thought it was a simulation!

An interesting documentary about a relatively obscure niche in the War...the recollections of those who were only children back in 1945 really brought home the impact of the combat events upon the innocent...Nice to see that Tinus is still finding and interviewing the last of the SAAF crewmembers, recording their recollections before they pass.

An excellent documentary, I realise that it's not the specific point of the film but I would have liked to see details about what impact the attacks had on the Germans.

I salute the bravery, and determination of those who participated in action against the Axis Forces during the second world war. It saddens me that some lost their lives in this town. WAR is hell on earth. Those who lost their lives, deserve to be remembered. Both military, and civilians. Thank you to those who fought, to give us a better world. Fantastic documentary, but I am missing any information on what damage these attacks did to the enemy? Was it worth the suffering of the population?

Compelling stuff! I love the small stories by eye witnesses. It really brings forth the human costs of the war and illustrates just how much it mattered.

My Dad was in 5 Squadron Kittyhawks, based in Durban before going up north fairly early in the war. But apart from that I know nothing about him. Do you have any info on that squadron in the first half of the war?

Where would I search for names of the army personal men who served in north Africa during ww2

Very interesting, amazing original footage and great to hear personal stories from the people who lived through it. It would have been interesting to hear how the attacks directly affected the German army / war production. This would perhaps give the viewer more insight to the costs and gains of such attacks. Thank you.

By twist of irony, one of the SAAF pilots bears a German surname... Lt Holzhausen. A number of German Protestants arrived in South Africa as missionaries in 1737...others fled from Germany to South Africa to escape terrible persecution conducted by the Catholics, in Europe.

South africans and anzacs where some very tough hombres, bit unconventional with night raiding trench'es , more akin to bar room brawling only instead of maiming, killing, which certainly made the germans and italians loose alot of sleep and made them keep changing their underpants, very staunch allies in the desert, you aint forgotten and never will be much respect from, 🇬🇧..
