How is this fair, in a country where democracy is running in full swing, In Manipur all other communities like naga, kuki , gorkha etc. can all buy land in valley area.....but No meitei can buy land in hill district even in their own state. This is very fucked up.

Your claim of only Meiteis not being able to buy land in the hills is not entirely correct. Even tribals cannot buy land anywhere they choose. Each district/region belongs to certain tribes and people of other tribes cannot buy property there either. Even within the same district belonging to the same tribe, people from one village cannot purchase property unless they renounce what we call the 'citizenship' of the previous village. This is to ensure the customs and language of the village or the tribes are not compromised. So don't go around with half baked knowledge and inaccurate information. This would also be a good time to educate you further about the differences between Tribals and Meiteis. The latter have one common unified language and script and their habits and customs remain the same whether in tampak (city) or kkungang (village or remote areas). The former group, on the other hand, can be further subdivided into Nagas, Kukis and Komrem. Even within Kukis or Nagas, each sub tribe is different with different languages and attires and practices. Even within the same tribe, you can have villages with languages (mind you, these are not dialects) that are absolutely different from each other. I belong to a subset of the Naga tribe with my mom and dad from different villages. I can speak our tribe language, get by in my mom's village language but I have almost zero knowledge of my paternal language. This example alone should give you an idea of how complicated the structure is. My mom belongs to a small village with barely 200 households and therefore this right for the Meiteis or any other community to buy land in a place like that is a threat to the preservation of the culture of the village. There is also a reason why Meiteis are not given ST. Because they have a rich civilization with written literature and history. Tribals were too backward to have that. Meiteis also control all the political, social and economic capital and resources in the state. They are also the majority community. Both Nagas and Kukis combined do not reach Meitei numbers. That is why ST demand by the Meiteis is invalid. (Similarly Kuki demand for separate administration is also invalid for reasons that it destroys the integrity of Manipur and the areas they propose include Naga areas. This will also excite other such demands in the area.)

May be we are better privileged group than you but we are far behind in the national context. There will be nothing change as far as quota system is concerned in the state. Not all meiteis are so competent as you see. Only a few in the Imphal area, you can see well to-do families. Please have some mercy on those majority meiteis who reside in the far flung villages. They are as good as you tribal people. ST status has many other provisions which will help the indigenous people live with dignity and a good atmosphere to preserve their culture, tradition..... etc...

@@meiteiparitampakngakpa5666 While I understand your point and I do sympathise with the people living in khungang areas, giving ST status to Meiteis will even further decrease the opportunities for hill people. While I agree that Meiteis might not be so developed in the larger national context, tribals are lagging behind even in their own state. It would be cruel to snatch food from one child's mouth to feed another child. While both are hungry, one does not face social and economic discrimination at least at the state level. So I'm against ST status. However, since some Meiteis already have SC and OBC status, that could be an area that could be looked into. You might well be aware that just last month, the Centre allocated Rs. 18 crores for promotion of Manipuri (Meitei) language and culture. So that is proof enough that a lot is being done exclusively for Meiteis which the Tribals aren't getting either. If you ever travel to any of the villages, you will see the conditions of the schools and roads and the infrastructure is still very, very poor. My own parents came from small villages and whatever I achieved was through sheer hard work and will power and the support of my parents. So people like me are the exception rather than the rule. This is not to say that your arguments are not valid from your perspective. I just think there needs to be another viable solution acceptable to all without disadvantaging any group. After all, our state can progress only when all of us are able to lead high standards of living equally.

I wrote against the present government and its volunteers, and about things happening in Manipur and the most possible reasons why BJP has been secretly supportive in the violence towards CM Biren singh, but not contributing fully to the benefit of both warring communities fully and divide the two, but those were deleted on Instagram, citing community guideline violation. People wrote slogans against BJP but didn't get their comments deleted but point by point listings of rational explanation were deleted. If the BJP/RSS, volunteers are so active everywhere( there are possibilities they have many insider volunteers in government offices), then there's no chance for any party to win ever again.... This is the death of democracy. But whoever support it now may not fully be able to embrace it when their hindu rashtra goals are achieved. By then it will be too late to go back... Mahatma Gandhi haters, anti-muslim, and then later the hatred for many other minority religions is too disturbing. Extreme Chauvanism without acknowledgement of one's fault, but are they actually ready to give their life for India?

Many Kukis have been living in Manipur for decades. I have friends who were born and brought up here. Their parents were born here as well. So please word your question carefully. Yes, there are plenty of Myanmar refugees (it's not Burma anymore) who are mostly Kukis and illegal. Those have to be checked certainly because they are a threat to our territorial integrity and peace. But using a blanket term like refugees for all Kukis is wrong and dangerous to the efforts for peace. We also have to understand that this current situation is also in part because of Biren Singh's dirty politics. Even Meiteis accept that as a fact. This is in no way endorsement for Kuki separate administration. That is not a valid demand either.
