This collection should be kept whole and intact. Mr. Goodings pursuit would be better served in a museum as a testiment to his dedication, percivernce and passion. It would be fascinating to visit the entire collection. Cheers to Mr Gooding.
@GregsWhiskyGuide4 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you, Michael....it is so beautiful as a whole....it should be a kind of living museum (don't know how, but some kind of "Living Liquid Whisky Experience" (not like the one in Edinburgh, but kinda...more available bottles to taste...and maybe a project to make it last forever....such as recording every tasting made in a room nearby, to verse it to a wide digital tasting bank one could consult from all over the world, like a living liquid library (...). So, when Angus says '"it would energize the secondary market", me I hear only that it will increase the greed of the buyers & the speculation of many flippers then...Not sure it was the finest idea about this amazing collection...😒
@jdm110603 жыл бұрын
I suspect they were willed to either petulant, undeserving recipients who don't care about anything but the money it will give them, OR maybe, and preferably, this was the will of Mr. Goodings. Maybe this is how he wanted to pay it forward after he left this earth.

Whilst I like the idea of it staying together, I'd rather someone enjoying it by drinking than by sitting in a museum
@jordannarlock79953 жыл бұрын
Whiskey was meant to drink, not rot in a museum and collect dust. Break it up and let people enjoy what is in inside. The collection thing is so silly
@morningstarx53402 жыл бұрын
Why put a large collection of whiskey that was meant to enjoy in a museum so that it is basically lost on the world forever? That doesn't seem right. Sell them to people that will appreciate them.

I usually don't comment on YT but this brought me close to tears. The passion and addiction this man had is amazing. I am a small collector by myself. It would be so beautiful if someone buys it and open it and displays it for public. The legacy of one man for everyone. I even dreamed about it yesterday. Breathtaking.

I totally agree with you Andreas. Being a whisky/whiskey connoisseur myself, I would have been delighted to learn Mr Gooding`s collection was to be sold in it`s entirety, on the condition it not be opened. In my opinion, to destroy such a unique collection by selling the bottles off individually, is essentially an act of vandalism. To have a chance to simply view this collection, would be a rare privilege indeed. I for one would pay to see it.
@jdm110603 жыл бұрын
Well, the most appropriate thing to be done with the collection is... Whatever Mr. Goodings wanted to be done with it.

@cryptolord98264 жыл бұрын
yes but you need passion for whisky lot of rich people will purchase couple bottles and stop
@jdm110603 жыл бұрын
If you started today, knew what to look for, and had the patience and discipline to save bottles, you don't have to be rich. Then, like all good investments, give it some time to age, and within 20 to 30 years you're going to be looking like a rich man. So cross step one off your list.

Recently I planned a TimeCapsule sort of thing and wanted to put some whisky bottles in it. I used cling flim to cover the: 1. Neck/Cap/Seal to prevent evaporation 2. Bottle Labels to preserve them 3. Outer Cardbox Can anyone suggest me whether this is the correct way or not because I don't want my clingfilm to stick permanently to the labels and deteriorate it instead. Thanks 🙂

Wonder how many of these bottles are counterfeit? I do. If not THESE bottles, then knock-offs of these bottles elsewhere. When I hear “He has TEN of them, I never saw ONE before!” I am reminded of the multi-million dollar vintage wine scandals from earlier this century.
@MirrorMonolith2 жыл бұрын
He bought most of the bottles new and direct from the distillery, and most at a time well before the whisky boom. 20 years ago few people were even interested in a 40yo Laphroaig, people just didn’t care. He must’ve paid pennies on the dollar for most of these.

A collector advised me _not_ to keep whiskies out of their caskets as light fades the liquid. Not sure if this is true? Edit - Ask a stupid question, but of course, a prerequisite for a bottle to enter into any given collection is that the bottle is and shall always remain _unopened?_

@MirrorMonolith3 жыл бұрын
I don’t agree. I live ten minutes from this collection, and Mr. Gooding frequented all the local pubs here in Colorado talking about sharing whisky and letting it find good homes that will consume it. Nothing is truly permanent, the collection had its time as a single entity, and is now time to move on. Plus he willed it to be sold at auction.

What are you on about? The bright lighting in the video are the result of studio lighting kits the production team brought. You can see their reflection in the bottles. It’s not that bright in there normally. The room is temperature and humidity controlled. Bottles are kept upright. And he kept all the boxes safely in storage. Seriously do people bother thinking before firing off whatever dumb thought pops in their head anymore?

Mr Dewayne Poor has a way better collection
@MirrorMonolith2 жыл бұрын
Dewayne’s collection is in now way better, it’s only larger. Gooding’s collection is far more diverse and represents far more forgotten and lost distilleries. It’s a much classier, better researched collection. And he actually put in the miles tracking down bottles. Cannot say the same for Dewayne.
