Man very thorough video , very informative im a mechanic the only thinh has me haywire is the tune side can i just use a dod/afm delete chip plug in or need tune? If you dont mind when have time to lmk thanks god bless.

@@KenWayneJohnson thank you for watching and commenting, the kit I used came with a tuner to turn off the afm/dod in the ECU ... before I did the dod delete I had a plug in dod delete device and it worked for a while, but eventually the truck still dropped a lifter. I hope this helps you.

Great video bro helped me a lot with my 09 Tahoe. At the 38:00 mark where u didn’t drop the rack pinion just took the line off I did just that but can’t get it pulled back over to put it back on

Make sure the oil pan is pulled all the way against the block and bolts are torqued, you should have the clearance to reinstall line. I hope this helps

So.. you did all that, but there was really only one collapsed lifter. Was the lifter collapsed because the spring inside was broke? What causes a collapsed lifter. Doesn't the oil pressure on that cylinder collapse it in 4 cylinder mode?

Im shock you aint just put a bigger cam since you had to go in and replace those weak stock chain tension guides with a solid corvette dampener. Just a thought to prevent failure later.

Had to come back to this video and mention. I think and don’t quote me on this because you have a gen 4. But when you cranked it over for the first time and your oil pressure up 80. I think it might of failed but not in the way commonly seen. My gen 3 actually did that not sure exactly what happened in it. But it kept popping oil filter gaskets so I swapped oil pumps and normal 40 to 45 psi oil pressure.

@@Johnny-jr2lq Thank you for watching..I installed a high volume oil pump and deleted the in pan relief valve, also it had fresh cold oil. Now it usually sits around 50 psi at idle and about 60 psi while accelerating.

I figured out that the Melling high volume oil pumps are a must “while your in there” doing the delete. So sorry for the for the ignorance in my comment. Still learning about this can’t wait to get that AFM BS out of my truck’s motor.

I loved the video and i am on round two watching it again. I just bought a 08 gmc w/5.3 that needs a cam. After seeing you do it im going to give it my best effort. What paint and color did you use? Its beautiful. And what did you use to block of the relief valve in the oil pan? I dont think i can fit between the front of the engine and radiator like you did. Thanks again for the great video

Great video, thank you for posting. Im in the middle of my cam/lifter repalcement. Watching lots of videos. Yours is the only one ive seen that removed oil pan? What made you feel that was required? I was only intending to replace oil pump on front of engine, not aware of any need to mess with oil pan but im a novice at best and want to make sure I'm not missing something. Thanks again!

Had lifter tap bout 5 months ago got it fix new liters gaskets rods but I didn’t do a DOD delete now the tap is back do you think I will be able to do a DOD delete myself or should I get a professionally done? I have installed a water pump before alternators that about it though.

@@TRIGG.04 you probably could do it , just have to take your time…. Watch a couple videos to see if it’s something you would be comfortable doing first….. The only issue would be if you mess something up you have to pay and go back to fix it.if a professional mess it up they have to go back and fix it for free.

Take your time when installing the cam (be gentle) you don't want to damage the cam bearings, I have a video on installing cams in a ls. Timing on these engines is easy just make sure your time marks line up,I also have a video on installing the timing chain on an ls if you would like to watch it.

I had a mechanic do this on my 07 Suburban and still having low oil pressure problems when I come to a stop sign pressure gets low and starts to tick a little. Once you pick up speed the oil pressure comes back up and tick goes away, you have any ideas what could be causing this? Someone told me maybe a bad lifter, what do you think?

Will a failing DOD cause your engine to smoke? Mines running like it's missing on multiple cylinders so I think it's the DOD. My 5.3L has 236K miles

@@mack606either take it to a shop or buy a cheap borescope and check out your cylinder walls. As long as there isn’t a bunch or deep vertical scoring, you can still get another 50-100k miles from a top end rebuild.

You took way too much shit off bro I didn't take my radiator off just the hoses not the trans line at all just water lines I didn't even take my ac compressor off I took the whole brakes on the right side off and let it sit down right where it is but away didn't disconnect nothing on that side besides fuel line injector harness and spark plug wires u just did way too much for nothing
