If you look at their duets together you can see that tension, especially in Human. A song that many connect to their relationship. Any way, Dodie was hurt in the process and their relationship (friendship or otherwise) is no longer there at least in the public sense. That's all I know.

I think this is Dodie’s most underrated song. Maybe I’m weird, but I can relate to the general feeling so much it’s crazy. dear happy, (2016: freshman year of high school) i wasn’t familiar with u four years ago. i told myself i would no longer lack of you by the end of high school and my heart would no longer break when i hear this song. these four years have been crazy, i lost friends, i doubted myself, i failed classes, i was being shamed for things i did not do. but then i began to feel warmth, it was a sign i was about to meet you. my life was still a living hell, but i met my best friend. the guy who always made me laugh and smile despite the missing hole i had where u were supposed to be. he introduced me to you and god was it nice. you made me feel like nothing could ever hurt me. those few months with u felt like i was on cloud9. (2020: senior year of high school) i felt u when he asked me to prom, when i got my prom dress, when we got our boutonnière and corsage, when my mother paid for my cap and gown, when i finally got my shit together academically and mentally. and then in an instant i got everything i was looking forward to ripped away from me. i got u ripped away from me. here i am four years later, 2:30 in the morning and i’m listening to this song while blankly facing the tv that shows the death rate increasing due to a pandemic. i lost my year but worst of all, i’m seeing the world loose their families. i’m seeing lives being affected forever. so “happy” i’ll be waiting for u, until we meet again...

i had a friend during my senior year of high school that i considered my #1 best friend. from the moment this video was posted, this was “our song” and we would sing it together all the time, any chance we got. we had conversations of what our future would be like and goals, aspirations, everything. i had such a strong love for him since i considered him a brother, and once Covid hit it became clear that the feelings weren’t mutual. he began talking shit about me behind my back, decided that he didn’t need to use me anymore. i lost my best friend during one of the hardest times, being the most depressed i had ever been. today is the first time i’ve listened to this song in over three years and it’s just as beautiful as the first time i heard it, i even remembered all the words. i was 15 when the song came out, 18 when i lost my best friend, and i turn 22 in 8 days. i guess this is a long winded way of saying that even if i don’t have someone to sing it with right now, i can at least think about how much i’ve grown as a person in the last six years. be proud of what i’ve done, and proud of who i’ve become. this song means so much more to me than i could explain. thank you for everything

check out the color symbolism. dodie is wearing a black shirt with a white collar, and thomas is wearing a white shirt on a black background. dodie is dominated by black or sadness, and thomas is dominated by white. and his smile and warmth really lights up the room. while dodie is more feeling and melancholic. it’s easy to see who is happiness and sadness. but- their shirts aren’t just white or black. they’re both dominated by both. because you really can’t have happiness without sadness. or the other way around
