Hey guys. two weeks of rpm not going over 2k rpm on a new reman engine, I was very frustrated to say the least. I found your video. spent 3 hours taken off valve cover spinning the crank watching colored chain links. finally got to the black link and found it to be one link off. put it on mark, and this engine running so good you can hardly hear it. smooth. Long block from engine world. thank you so much for this information. great Video. Ken Manning

This is the best tear down series I’ve seen on KZbin(and I watch a lot) Very detailed but doesn’t drag on with unnecessary stuff. You are the man!

His little tips like rubber banding the cam timing chain together and organizing all your parts. Saves you about 5 hours just from these little tips. So like a 20 hour job is down to 15 hours because of the little markings and little insider tips which I really appreciate

As soon as you said "this was not the major problem with the cylinder head though" I knew exactly what it was going to be. Have my dakota torn apart right now with the SAME exact issue! Overheated blew head gasket (the owner thought) I pick it up for 650 go to pull the engine out and discovered that had happened too

I really appreciate you taking the time to make the Dodge 4.7L head gasket video. it was in great detail and very informative. It made the task a whole lot easier. Thank You. subscribed

I subscribed to your channel once I saw you working on the 4.7l I have an 2002 Dakota and you are an excellent instructor since I learned a great deal of money saving skills from watching your videos, so for that I thank you.

i had both headgaskets replaced and the head was milled a few thousands to make it even better ..and the kit has all new chains and sliders and gaskets its a big big big job i spent 4 thousand but the motor works great now.. like a new motor..
@elsniper238 жыл бұрын
san379 that sounds like a lot of money! i just re bored my 4.7 .070. new pistons, turned crank, gaskets and everything i spent $590. ( not including oils)
@san3798 жыл бұрын
Zae Rodriguez you rebuilt your v8 overhead cam with all new install kit with all the chains n sliders n gaskets and machined the heads for 590$... impossable.. ..thats thousands of dollars of labor.. .. ps.. the motor still works great..
@elsniper238 жыл бұрын
Labor i did myself, gaskets costed me $209. Remember we did it on different times. Im sure my parts costed less then your time.i turned my crank for $60 and rebored with hoan for $85. I reseated my valve seats and refaced my valves my self. Thats good!

After opening up my passenger side head I found that one of the lifters casting has been cracked only on the passenger side the drivers side looks good if I need to swap the head on the passenger side do I need to remove the entire timing chain? Or would I just need to use the rubber band method and just remove that single head? Please provide me with any useful information that may come to mind. Thank you!

Thank you for providing these videos. I am in the process of removing the heads from the same engine in my father’s 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee but we are having trouble breaking free the back bolts holding the heads on. Can you provide the CFM ratings on the impact wrench and compressor you are using? I have a Dewalt impact wrench with a max CFM rating of 5.9; is that a powerful enough wrench? If not, what is the next best way to remove those far back bolts, an extra long breaker bar perhaps? Thanks again for these videos, I would be lost without them.

Spring for the Mopar innards or reuse your original parts. I wish i would have used a crate motor from Chrysler since the lash adjusters alone are almost $800.

I can't find your previous videos about this 4.7 Do you have the links for them? And thanks for showing us how to do it
@@howstuffinmycarworks Hello, question...I'm tearing apart a 4.7 in a Ram I bought, so far have the left head off, it has 2 dropped valve seats and Pistons show some damage, in your opinion, what's the best way to check the Pistons to make sure they're still usable? Would you recommend removing them to inspect them properly? Or just inspect cylinder walls and look for major scuffing, check for excessive piston to wall clearance?? Thanks.

Hi, why we beed remove the chain cover for change the headcam gasket?...
@MrDaprizm3 жыл бұрын
Hey just remove my timing cover, and just like you, the dots aren't aligned on the crankshaft shaft sprocket but everything turned out perfect before that. So I marked the position of the chains like you did. My question is does it really matter about the primary chain color dots aligning(On crankshaft sprocket) as long as u have the secondary chains align at tdc on each camshaft?

Timing a V8 is not for rookies. Perform the rear idler first if possible then the front. I think the back idler is the right bank and the front idler is the Left bank.
@meeksite098 жыл бұрын
dots lined up on left and right cam but colored links in crankshaft slot did not. should I reinstall timing case / pulley and continue to turn engine till they align or can I just paint marks for my own reference and install as they come off? have yet to to take off chain. please reply
@bobsoft8 жыл бұрын
Rotate the crankshaft until the damper timing mark is aligned with TDC indicator mark on the timing cover. Verify the V8 mark on the camshaft sprockets is at the 12 o’clock position on both heads. You are now at TDC on the exhaust stroke. You can now remove the harmonic balancer, then timing cover.

great job! you have helped me a lot so far, thank you thank you! MY QUESTION THOUGH I cannot get both my cams lined up with their colored link. After getting TDC on all my gears couldn't I just pull chains from wherever they happen to lie, then when reinstalling line them up in there correct order? a reply would be very much appreciated, Happy Holidays!
@cultwho9 жыл бұрын
+taalf thorpe timing the camshafts with the crank can be a complicated procedure, but it is possible to time if you can't keep things in their correct position. If things have gotten out of whack, it would be easiest to have someone whose done it before give you a helping hand as it is not an easy task. I would not put the engine back together until you can hand crank the engine and verify that all marks, dots, and marked links are in correct position when they should be, as stated in the video, if they are one link or tooth off, your truck will run like crap, two or three links off and you piston will hit the valve and destroy your engine

do i need to take the lower chain, tensioner off for a head gasket replacement job?
@waltercastro20155 жыл бұрын
If you keeping the truck yes is best to grab new heads. But if is for private resale just repair what causing the engine lack. Unless, you find an engine in the junk yard that the truck has been in a accident from the back, is best to pull them out and best chance you wont have an issue. If accident was at front, leave it. Chances are from the impact everything shift and bend many components.

Lmao, I might have to do this job soon If I can't fix the broken valve cover bolt with the head in the vehicle FML. Doesn't look like much fun but If I the head has to come off I might as well remove both and replace the leaking valve seals while I'm at it.

Here's a question i hope you can answer. I'm in the process of doing this, waiting for the special tool for the rockers to come in tomorrow before i continue... i'm having the heads machined and i can either take the rocker arms off myself or the guy will do it for me and put them back on for me after it's machined. Do the rocker arms have to be exactly the same once i put everything back on or can they be moved ? If they can even move.
