Smuggling a blue shell into first place can be helpful if you're able to do it, because only 1 blue shell can exist in a race at a time. (But why go through all that effort when you can smuggle a mushroom into first).

I've tested it before and it's only in 2,3, and 4 player splitscreen. If you play by yourself offline or online, everyone one else will use their normal higher poly models

It's interesting to know the blue shell isn't dodged by speed or the boost but rather specifically programmed to check if a mushroom was used by the person targetted on those particular frames. Likely to prevent people from just hitting a zipper or 200cc stuff to dodge it defeating the purpose.

This actually helps if you are second but close if first slows down you can pass since it won't change target after it's tossed and if they don't you can get the needed space to avoid the blast

I believe the mushroom has been hard-coded to dodge blue shells for a bit now. That's why you can even dodge it by driving into a wall when you use a mushroom at the right time, despite just ramming into the wall without leaving the blast zone.

This is pretty interesting because it shows that dodging the blue-shell with a mushroom is a completely intentional mechanic that was deliberately programmed into the game. I always thought it was the result of going so fast that the explosion happens behind you. It sounds like a distinction without a difference. But it results in strangeness like what happens in this video.

The ultimate strat. Use a boo when a blue shell is after you. Then drive inside another player to make them think the shell is going after them. When they try to mushroom dodge, they get hit.

I think the reason behind that is if you were to use a mushroom against a red shell, and the rising saying that you can dodge a blue shell if it’s only targeting you, because the mushroom gives invincibility, then that would mean if a red shell is targeting you then you would have invincibility if you use the mushroom that wouldn’t make any senseso that’s why you can’t do it if you’re not the one being targeted because giving invincibility to mushrooms for all items would just be too broken

That's because when the blueshell is aiming for you, you can't even dodge the explosion with a mushroom. For some reason though Nintendo decided that you still don't get hit. This does only apply to you though if the blueshell is aiming for you
