@@MG-lz5nw Always change the oil when it should be changed. Always change the air filter when it should be changed. Change the air filter INSIDE the car, too. Make sure there isn't anything clogging up the air vents outside of the car. Lots of tree leaves and nuts can fall on them. They are right there at the bottom of the windshield. Flush radiator. If AC/Heat is not working properly, you might need a new blend door actuator. There are three of them. Look up videos for that. It was ok car, a lot of them were fleet sales, and they lost a lot of value and now you can take one of them in decent shape under 6-7 k. But the dodge line up today is very old, the dart which is the last new product that they presented, is gone, the avenger gone, viper gone, RAM went for their own brand , the charger and challenger keep selling pretty good and survive thanks to numerous upgrades. Durango most likely will be substituted by a Jeep 3 row, and the journey and the caravan are extremely old and not sure if a new generation will come for them. Again I believe FCA should make some new models for dodge to revive this brand.
@Alan-tr5uj5 жыл бұрын
The Charger & Challenger have been consistently revised- first the LX Charger's 2nd generation came in 2011: it was for all intents a new vehicle. All-new exterior design, all-new interior design with materials, and fit & finish lightyears ahead of the 06-10 models. The platform underwent major revision, most notable was the revised suspension eliminating most of the shortcomings of the first-gen LX Charger, as well as the use of 35% more high-strength steel resulting in nearly a 30% stiffer chassis. It's immediately obvious when driving a 2011 back-to-back with a 2010. Then the all-new 3.6 V6 debuted in the 2011 Charger- it was a gem compared to the 3.5 it replaced. Eager to rev, and sounding great doing so. Yes the Challenger soldiered on a bit longer- getting it's major redesign in 2015. While the Challenger didn't get all-new sheet metal, it DID get revised front & rear fascias, dramatically cleaning up the look of the car. However, it did get just as much a complete revision underneath just like Charger did. Stiffer chassis, improved suspensions, and alteration to allow for the longer 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. Both Charger & Challenger were stiffened to accommodate the Hellcat engine first and foremost. This benefited all models however. The Charger & Challenger continue to sell well because they're kept fresh, and they have no direct competition. They are unusual in the respect that they are cars that sell well- when all other domestic automakers have given up on cars. The Koreans, Japanese, Germans, etc- continue to make cars that sell well. GM & Ford didn't build any cars that were worth looking at outside of high performance cars; even then the 4-doors were bland looking- the rest of the cars were boring, stodgy, uninspired FWD knock-offs of Accord & Camry... Dodge also has the WK2 based Durango- which has enjoyed all the updates that it's Grand Cherokee sibling has received- less a trackhawk equivalent- but there's still time. Durango/Grand Cherokee was an all-new platform in 2011- The first all new product released after bankruptcy. They were game changers for Chrysler, As it showed what could be given a little investment. Now I'm aware that the WK2 was co-developed with Mercedes, used Mercedes interior components at launch, etc- (which would've never been allowed had it still been Daimler Chrysler) - hell Mercedes was withholding transmissions, interior components, etc- trying to force Chrysler to change the interior. Chrysler did not relent, the two sides settled, and Mercedes redesigned THEIR interior to differentiate the products between Grand Cherokee/Durango, and Mercedes W166 (ML 250, ML63 AMG, etc.) Mercedes still produces their ML's on this platform for 2019 model year, as as they've revised this platform just as FCA has for Jeep/Dodge. Not considered old by any stretch- this is still a cutting edge platform even by Mercedes standards. Avenger is gone, Dart is gone, and for good reason. FCA dropped the ball with Dart- underpowered, no good cutting-edge automatics- just a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed auto, or the DDCT for the 1.4 turbo. This car would've been a hit had there been horsepower to match the handling. It needed at LEAST 250 hp, with 300 hp in an SRT trim. 9-speed auto would've given it the edge in fuel economy that it needed. Oh well, missed opportunity. Dodge is quietly preparing a Journey replacement; a proper RWD-biased muscle-crossover. That said, the current Journey has sold exceptionally well since it's 2011 emergency refresh after bankruptcy. Its sales increased substantially after the interior was replaced with something much nicer, the addition of the 3.6 Pentastar, and just a few tasteful exterior tweaks took this vehicle from an ugly outlier, to a great performer, and a fierce competitor in the segment. It's truly an example of what rampant cost-cutting can do to a product- we just rarely ever get to see a vehicle re-engineered to correct what cost-cutting damaged. Journey is that shining example. Now I've left the Chrysler 300 out of this, as well as the 200- everyone is aware of those vehicles back stories. My original point is- aside from Journey, the Dodge lineup is current in every way that matters. Just because Dodge hasn't scrapped every model and started over with a clean-sheet design doesn't mean the products are old. Updating platforms to keep them current, iron-out flaws over time results in a far better product. Designing new products always introduce short-comings that are corrected by revision over a model year, or two. But a continual improvement is just as well for automobiles. This is the one manufacturing industry where it's seemingly a bad thing is a vehicle is more than a few years old- even IF the original design has been re-engineered to update, make an overall better product. I run a medical manufacturing company, we use Swiss-Style CNC machines- which are made in Japan. One brand new 20mm machine cost us $260,000 USD, in 2018- and this machine is cutting-edge; however its platform has its roots in 1995, when it first hit the market. The same basic structure exists today, with any major changes occurring when there was any significant advancement in technology. So these machines resemble what was available in 1995, BUT the design has been perfected, streamlined- computer tech has changed dramatically since 1995- but I would never THINK of calling this machine old, nor would I not purchase it unless it was completely redesigned from the ground up every 4 years. I purposely bought the machine because it is a proven, reliable design- but also packing today's cutting edge tech. The machine is faster in every way. Its motors, and ballscrews last 3 times long- because it's been continually improved. Now at some point, the methods on how they build the machine bed may change, or the alloy technology may dramatically improve. If that were to happen, then this CNC machine would be redesigned from the ground up, employing all the new technology that was not available when this original chassis was designed in 1995. My point with this exercise is metallurgy, suspension technology, manufacturing techniques, and govt. Safety regulations haven't changed since 2011; a clean-sheet design for Dodge vehicles is a pointless, expensive endeavor. FCA keeps the platforms current as-is, and requires minimal investment- which equals maximum returns on the sales side. The byproduct of this is more dependable vehicles overall. Yikes that's a TON of writing.
@piersandromannino41095 жыл бұрын
Alan Sasek I see your point and I agree with you, but beside charger and challenger the other models are old. You get a Journey and the 4cylinder still have a 4speed transmission, too obsolete. Even the interiors of you compare to anything else in the segment is more modern. The caravan than is a good option for big family with not a big budget or for fleet sales, it gets the job done, so I don’t mind if they keep the same design for more years keeping refreshing it. But dodge definitely needs a couple of new crossover, the side of the compass , to attract young buyer and something bigger, like a Chevy Blazer or Nissan Murano. But as right now FCA is totally focused on Jeep and Ram brands, the ones who make profit

Alan Sasek: What you wrote concerning the Dart is sooooooo true. Chrysler blew it. The Journey? I don't understand why this vehicle has many haters online. I consider it a fine alternative to others in its class. Some find it to be it a terrible machine. Consumer Reports for example, definitely. The only thing I believe the Journey lacks is more safety tech in tune with its competition. That's why I'm leery in purchasing the Journey in its top of the line version, unfortunately. This may change though. Peace...♐

Right now on the used market there's a few important things to note. A top end Avenger will run you about the same cost as an early V6 Charger. Basically you can choose between the top end Baby Charger or the low end real Charger. I skipped both and went with a 300C instead, which is basically a Charger RT with comfier seats, but for $2-4K less and lower insurance cost.

The Mitsubishi versions, 3kgt, 2g eclipse platform and 3g eclipse are actually all very different cars. The stealth was very performance oriented, boasting the twin turbo 6g72 with nearly 300 bhp, and AWD. Whereas the highest option avenger RT came with the 4 speed auto 2.5 v6 (eh). The only way to get a manual was to get the 140 hp 420a motor (shared with lower optioned eclipses). Not too spunky, but goos om gas. I actually owned one of these. The startus that appeared in early 2000s was only similar in the coupe version, which had the 6g72, a 3 liter v6 with 200 hp. Those were okay, but the sedans shared dofferent chassis amd drivetrain components. Between the cars, they were all very diffrent. The stealth was definitely the best drivers car, and most expensive. But ask anyone, the difference betweem a 2g and 3g eclipse iis is striking. But you could get 2gs with a turbo 4 cyl and manual, the late 90s avenger was not as performance orientated, most likely because of the individual brand goals.
@DarkPhoenixTSi5 жыл бұрын
@djevan 41598 The Eclipse/Talon were based on the Galant, so you aren't incorrect. The 95-2000 Avenger was closely related to the FWD 2G DSM, using the same 2.0l I4 (Same as the Neon). The Stealth/3KGT was based on the Diamante, which was a stretched Galant.

As usual, a very thorough and interesting review. It's a shame they let this car go for the Dart, because this could have served as the platform for the pony car competitor to the mustang/camaro. Imagine this with beefed up suspension and turbocharged V6, or even a 5.7 hemi? Then slap a "Cuda" badge on it with some retro styling and it would have sold like crazy.

@thurstonrider5 жыл бұрын
Ashley, you are right about the blindspots on the Avengers due to the narrow back windows. However I've driven tons of American cars with bad blind spots so it's really not anything new. Blind spots became less severe in most cars from the 80s and 90s but they were pretty bad in cars from the 60s and 70s in which Dodge just happened to continue.

I have a 2013 3.6 liter Flex Fuel Avenger. Yup, it's got the little "Flex Fuel" badge and everything, although I've read that ALL the V6 Avengers could take E85, which is weird. I've never seen another one on the road, and from my research, I don't think there were many made. I bought it slightly used in 2015 from a dealer who got it as a trade-in, and it's easily the best car I've ever had. All I've had to do besides brakes, tires, etc., is replace the thermostat. I recently upgraded the low-end radio/CD player to a really nice 7" LCD model, and even with the original speakers, it sounds amazing. I can't recommend this car highly enough.

Wondered why there was never an SRT version of this car considering there was the Neon, RAM, and later the Charger and Challenger SRT-8s and in 2015 the SRT Hellcat. Would've been pretty cool to have, just as a limited production vehicle. It would totally make sense coming up the 2020's since Dodge is upgrading their v6 to an inline 6, they could've had a special edition SRT Twin Turbo Avenger that was a v6 or inline 6 or something among those lines. I've never owned an Avenger or knew anyone else who did, but they look pretty good considering what segment they were in. I'd rather one of those than an Altima of that generation based on looks alone. They also had decent HP and good fuel economy based on which engine you optioned out, so it's a shame that Dodge threw out the Avenger, plus just 2 years later Dodge discontinued the Dart so they lost 2 vehicles.

My 2010 Avenger RT with the 2.4 L motor has 222K+ miles on it and is still going strong. I did have to replace the throttle body and thermostat a few years back but otherwise there have been no major mechanical issues or repairs needed, and I now clean the throttle body about every six months and haven’t had any more problems. I also change the oil and do all other basic maintenance, myself. I’m currently working out of state and drove it 1300 miles to get here, and will drive it the 1300 miles back. I had a 2000 Dakota that was an absolute nightmare and ended up being sold basically for scrap after 10 years or so. But this Avenger has been the most dependable vehicle I’ve ever owned. Crazy how Dodge made both the best and worst vehicles I’ve owned. Changing the battery DOES SUCK. But otherwise I’ve loved it.

I drive a '12 Avenger Plus and I am one of the midsize fans having mostly Camaros and Firebirds. A couple of Gran Prix's, etc. Went to the new lot and the one I picked "stood out" to me in the isle's of Chargers, and Challenger's. It looked like the Charger from previous years only flared fenders (basically) and sits with a slight slope giving it the aggressive stance I like. I've had all the tickets to go with my Camaro and Firebird days and not to mention the significant price difference. I was thinking of a nice comfortable car that was economic and the Avenger Plus was just a good choice in March, 2012 and very surprised as it has more than enough power for this old guy. And the best part, I just paid it off early last year ('18) and with under 30,000 mi. (27.8) and garaged... it's still pretty new. I have been car [window] shopping and what happens is would have to trade down and spend 40k+ [min] to do it. The thing is we walk out to look and mine still looks good among the hundreds of new cars out on the lots, so even tho I would like to have a RS or Z28 or a new Bumblebee 🐝 or even the new Genesis, I can't make myself pay 60 thousand for a new car these days. Might pick up a low mileage pre-owned but for now, I think I'll keep my BlackBerry Pearl, (10:25) discontinued, midsize sleeper a while. ✓

I've had other issues that have happened on it, primarily sensors, and another part, which is well documented, wherein the car check engine light will come on, and the car won't go above 30 MPH. I know what the issue is. I'm working on it to resolve it. Once I fix that, it's back to road ready. I love that car.

Really? I didn't even think of the converter. At one point, I was getting that lightning bolt message on the dash. I replaced the throttle body. I resolved that, but I was getting something else. Took it to Advance to get it scanned, and replaced a sensor. It ran fine for about eight days, and something else happened on the freeway. I barely limped home with it. Got it in the garage. It was misfiring. It was also winter, and I had another vehicle to drive, so it's been in the garage, waiting for better weather.My plugs were fouled, and one smelled of gas, so I replaced that boot, along with all of the plugs. No more misfire, but I get a blinking check engine, when I go above about 2.5k RPM. I'm thinking the sensor I replaced failed. Not sure. I'm going to buy my own scanner, and take it from there.

All I can say is that I am 63, have had many different cars over the years from 70's era Corvettes to a Mitsubishi Lancer and you name it from the used car category. So, I've driven plenty of cars from almost every niche except for exotics. Oddly enough, in 2014 when they were putting big dollars on the hood of Avengers to clear out the leftovers, I decided to buy one because of the Pentastar 3.6 V6 engine powering a not-too-heavy sedan. The fact that the factory was putting the better looking trim features on a low cost SE , which made it hard to tell the difference from a higher priced R/T sure didn't hurt. Bottom line? I do believe in the old story that some buyer just get either lucky or unlucky with a particular sample on a particular car. I guess I got lucky. It is powerful, which is fun. It is very quiet in the cabin which surprised me. It is comfortable to sit in (I am large) and it smooths out road defects very nicely. The drivetrain (engine and 6spd trans) works excellent in delivering what you need for any terrain. The engine (which was beefed up a bit and refined by late 2013) has had zero hiccups at 40,000 miles. I love the fact that the Pentastar from that late a model had the perfect technology to deliver great power without being a Frankenstein Experiment in efficiency like all of the current cars are, from low end right up to performance cars: Direct Injection not there...good. All that is good for is clogging up the top of the engine after X miles. Turbocharging not there... because they are by and large "Trouble Waiting To Happen". Cylinder Deactivation not there.... Stupid is as stupid does...... seriously.....or the worst of all new technologies that manufacturers should be hung from a tree for doing : Stop/Start of engines at stop signs, lights, or whatever. In short, it is the best car I've ever owned from about 1972 to the present. The Pentastar 3.6 V6 with Port Injection that cleans the engine and effortlessly produces 283 "Linear" horses in a fairly lighter weight car that looks sporty is and was a choice of the decades. And many many cars that are rated as "excellent choices" are in reality a bucket of finnicky garbage that only looks good on paper. Dig into the nightmares of the owners of recent model Challengers, Camaros, Mustangs, and many other "sporty" cars. You'll find that the newest and latest gas saving technologies are by and large a Joke. An unfunny Joke for those owners.

The redesigned 2015 - 2017 200 is based off of the Alfa Romeo Gulia. I believe the Dart is as well. I think FCA made a big mistake cancelling the 200. Sure, the old 200 based on the Sebring was kinda a crap car but the redesigned 200 is a great car. It has a very sleek designs that looks European it has a best-in-class entertainment system with uconnect as well as adaptive cruise control. It got a five stars all around crash rating by the national highway institute. when I was looking to buy a new car I was looking at the Toyota Camry the Mazda 6 Ford fusion and Honda Accord and of course the redesign Chrysler 200. Test drove all those cars the Toyota Camry was the most uninspiring hard drive out of the bunch sure it's a Toyota he has great reliability and will probably last you forever but the styling I didn't care for matted I really care for the interior I feel the Chrysler 200 has a really great interior minus getting into the back seat if your tall. I've always been a Mopar guy you know my first car was a Toyota pickup truck set my second car was a 1991 Chrysler LeBaron with a v6 and that thing just hauled.

I looked at a '15 200 with the 3.6, new at the time, to replace my aging 05 Acura TL. It was really nice.. but every car I saw on the lot was loaded as far as it could be, and very expensive, some marked up to $34-36k! I DON'T THINK SO! I looked into ordering 1 the way I wanted it, but found that I had to add on expensive packages full of fluff, just to get the few things I wanted. I passed. Still driving my Acura..

15 year old me wanted a red 1st gen Avenger with stick shift, red with silver stripes and a viper style body kit; this was back when 2f2f and NFSU first came out haha. I had a full build sheet filled with random stuff lol.

@@Blackout_1692 Not true buddy. My 08 Dodge Avenger SXT has the heated and cooled cup holders. Great for long trips which is what I mostly use my car for.
