Perfect video! Thanks so much for saving me time and money on my 2004 Grand Caravan. Draining the remaining fuel prior to reinstall was critical even with only 4 gallons of gas. The only hiccup I ran into was that when I added a few gallons after the repair my gas gauge was stuck at empty (even with 3 gallons in it). Once I filled the tank to half the gauge worked fine! Thanks again. FYI, buy the tools! The pliers made life easy for sure. Took my 18 year old and myself about 2.5 hours to complete once we had the shade tent set up and the tools handy. Good luck!

I think mine is weak as I check the plugs none are wet but unless I hold the gas pedal down it won't start from cold. If I hold pedal it will crank maybe 5 to 9 times then will start when its warm it starts fine no issue. If that's a pump I'll replace or try to rejuvenate it with a high voltage push using 18v battery. Not sure what else as everything else is new. No check engine light either no misfire on computer.
@PistonShack11 ай бұрын
I would check actual fuel pressure and fuel volume at the start up, idle and acceleration before firing the cannon. Most likely you have wearing out fuel pump or failing fuel pressure regulator with build inside the pump. Ussually, original pump last around 200K.

If you came here because you just bought a fuel pump and you’re wondering why it doesn’t have a pick up tube and filter sticking off the bottom of it, it’s because they have been redesigned. The new ones have an internal filter and they pull in the fuel through a small hole next to the weird plastic part about 4” from the bottom. The hole is hard to see because of the white plastic. So you’re good. There’s no extra part you need. It will work just install it.
@bottmar12 жыл бұрын
The only thing not mentioned is the amount of fuel it takes to get the fuel pump to prime itself. My Caravan would not start until I had almost eight gallons of gas in the tank. This the second Caravan that would not prime without lots of gas in the tank. I ran out of gas in one and that is all it took to strand me even after putting two gallons of gas in the tank. To me fuel injection is better called fool infection. My collector cars are much more reliable and far easier to fix.
@PistonShack2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bottmar1!Interesting, I have never heard about such a problem on Caravans, hmm. Did you find what was causing issue priming fuel up?
@bottmar12 жыл бұрын
Yes. The answer was mostly in my first reply. The tank had too little gas in it for the pump to prime when it only had 2 1/2 gallons in it. I had to add 5 more gallons to it, then the pump could prime itself. I never had trouble like this with carbureted cars. If their was ANY gas you could count on a new pump to pump it unless the fuel pump was defective out of the box. I have run out of gas on purpose in fool infected cars to show the accuracy of the gas gauge and they have restarted ok with several gallons of gas but there are exceptions. With that in mind I am going to be very dillegent with making sure I don't run out of gas, at least unless I have ten gallons of gas with me. Thanks for the reply.
