@TheRageLivesOn5 ай бұрын
@@pex_the_unalivedrunk6785 you say that like most of the japanese cars don't sound terrible too. it's just the way they recorded engine sounds, and i'm sure it wasn't easy recording as many cars as they probably had to for that game. i don't know if this is 100% true, but i saw that they only recorded cars while at a stand still and revving in neutral. if they did that, it explains why the idle sounds good but the acceleration doesn't because the sounds weren't recorded while the engine was under load

You could do a faster time if you put on Manual and shifted earlier. Its peak horsepower and torque is between 2500 to 4000 RPMs and once it hits 4000 RPMs its power drops dramatically. NFS Pro Street, and Gran Turismo simulate it well, notice how the car bogs down when closer to the red line but gets a "boost" feeling after you shift up. In almost every case, big engines really likes to operate in low revs while tiny engines gets more and more powerful with high RPMs.

Despite having very realistic driving and physics (to a triple A video-game) I think that most cars in the GT series are seriously underpowered in their "full stock" versions, especially non-japanese cars, like a little handicap both in handling and in power just so it encourages you to spend some time tuning the car, nothing wrong with that, but it always feels like that. I can run a "stock" car on GT4 alright, but it needs to have AT LEAST racing breaks.

The 2000s Black Box-era NFS may not be having the most accurate sound for Dodge Charger, but there's something so distinctively memorable about the tone, vibe and atmosphere that come out of the engine sound of classic Dodge/Plymouth cars in NFSC, that no other video game franchise imo comes close at replicating an identical feeling (with the exception of Burnout Paradise and first Criterion NFS games).

more gears = more moving parts + less beefy components = faster wear + more breakdowns. Less issue nowadays, technology improved by quite a lot since the 60s. Original Corvette had 2-gear automatic because no other transmission Chevrolet had was sturdy enough to handle its 150HP engine. Even now, trophy trucks use 3-gear automatics almost exclusively, because 700-1100 HP engines + constant loss and recovery of grip would kill any normal transmission in hours.
