Its been a few years since I did a video on this first gen Dodge Cummins D250 shop truck. In this video I get you caught up to date, and then take care of a few problems.

I love your rig , those side doors with the narrow compartment, is good for jumper cables or tow strap, I would say.

I was about to say jumper cables when I saw your post

Jumpers yes. Also, some different gauge wire coiled up. Maybe some fuel, brake hose lengths. Ratchet straps, small ones, would seem to fit also. Maybe a blue tarp also.

Question (unrelated to the video): Have you ever or will you ever do a video of the green and tan colored RV in the background that looks to be 4x4? I’d love to know more about that thing.
@herbertbell94385 ай бұрын
You definitely should paint the truck bed. Get all that rust off and paint it silver like the cab. It's a good design and deserves to be presented in a professional manner just as if it were factory. There is no sense in neglecting good solid work.

In the narrow side compartment(s) you can hang jumper cables, extension cords, welding leads (if so equipped, you can modify the alternator to stick weld). The 3.54 gear is much better suited to the 5.9 Cummins torque range with stock tires than those models with the 4.10s on the street. You can change the drive/driven gears in the transmission to correct the speedometer, but mostly you need to know when you are driving 65 mph. You can set the needle to register 65 mph correctly just by moving the needle, that is all you should need.
@ScottDLR5 ай бұрын
IIRC, the 4.10's topped out in first gens at 74 mph against the governor.

For the volume issue off the new radio, try to clean/lubricate the potentiometer with Caig Chemical "De-OxIT" or Nu-Trol. And, by the way, do the same with all potentiometers in that radio... Great video, as always! Thanks for showing us!

I had a 93 2500 2wd CTD that I bought new. It was an awesome rig. The only down side was that unless the truck was working hard, it didn't make much heat. I nearly froze to death on the freeway in sub zero temps even wearing a snow suit. A "Winter Front" for the grill solved that problem. You made my Saturday night - thanks for another great vid!

For the sides, I would wire brush the bare metal and clear coat them. I'm not a big fan of the rusty metal "patina" although I know it is pretty popular. I think shiny metal protected by clear paint would look good.

Sold it with 210000 miles still had original oil pressure 30 at idle and 45 going down the road. Great truck to small for family. I have been driving ram trucks for 35 years this year. Had a 03 3500 junk it was red my 2021 is blue like the 89 it will be a good running truck . I have color carma .Denis from Santa Rosa CA

Looks great. If you'd done the axle swap before the speedo, you coulda gotten a different gear set for that to adapt the speedo to the rear end ratio. I say paint the bed the same brown color as the doors on the mutt truck. That brown looks great; just the right shade of rust.

Weld tabs or pegs in those boxes to hang box end wrenches. Make the pegs long enough so when you close the door, the pegs all but touch the inside of the door. That way, as long as the door is closed the wrenches can’t go anywhere as you drive
@littlebittybertАй бұрын
Great video. I, like others, agree about the side compartment being used for your ratchet strap collection. I believe that in there, they would probably become even more fun to pull out the whole giant tangled Medusa's head of ratchet straps and ratchets that are inextricably wound into a filthy, rusty nightmare. I await that video with bated breath! Oh! And by the way! Whatever you do, don't paint it. At least not in any good looking way. Maybe if you found some free paint down at the recycle center, but otherwise, paint is just added weight that only slows you down. Keepin it simple over here.
@DastardDek5 ай бұрын
That rig looks really nice. I'd say go silver with the paint on both sides. As for those side doors. Jumper cables, extra tow straps. Maybe some spare parts like belts, wires, and your standard bottle sizes of fluids for whenever you might find you need a topup off on the road.
@dff197075 ай бұрын
The rusted plate steel wouldn’t bother me, except that eventually when you lean against it while accessing the bed, you’ll end up wearing rust on your clothes. If the other side wasn’t in a mismatching primer, I’d suggest some sort of clear coat to seal it, rat-rod style.

on the other hand if that brake unit will seize and your rear wheels will lock up first with little braking pressure, its a real pain if that happens as you cannot get replacements anywhere for 20+ year old vans or ute's(or as yankys call them, pick ups or trucks)

James, l own a 1977 Dodge Power Wagon Sno-Fiter or Snow Commander don't know for sure, it was repainted by an unscrupulous body guy. It's not all original so some things I don't know are authentic. People say it's 3/4 ton w/ 1 ton sispension. It is lifted 6" & has clearance lights on the cab all factory I'm told. The brakes & steering parts are huge and $$$. It's got Dana 60's F&R w/ 4.56 gears & 16.5" wheels. It has full time 4 wheel drive, a 400 V8 & 8' Meyer Snow plow all hydraulic. When I had brakes serviced they left the rear bearings dry telling me they'd get hypoid oil in them when l drove it. After a week or so l heard squeeking when l drove by a curb so l opened them up and they were still dry. I packed them w/ wheelbearimg grease myself. I don't drive it over 60 much & it gets 13mpg best.
