Because of what Randy did for me I've given him some options for me to help him if and when needed. He is also a good guy who was not screwed over. I fully intend to make his loss up to him whenever the time comes. He needs something I'll be there, he needs a part I can find I'll get it for him. I'm not the type to screw anyone. I believe in honesty and integrity.

I am glad that you guys could make a deal and that he was able to help you. If you feel up to it and wouldn't mind, consider making a video of your new Outlander if you get a chance. I'd love to see what you've done to it. By the way, hats off to you, it sounds like you are doing a lot to help out others in need yourself and I think that is awesome!

You're discovering what true wealth really is. Giving away and helping folks in need is part of what it's all about. I do the same thing with laptops. Buy them for little or nothing, fix them up, and give them away to someone in need. Retired, I have money, and some folks pay me, but I do enjoy helping out where I can. Love ya!

I am very happy that you are replacing the tires on the Caprice and that you rebuilt the transmission. I was even kind-of nervous seeing you drive on those old things the other day. I NEVER take a chance on tires, or cheap out on them when I buy them and old tires make me really nervous. The advantage of the transmission rebuild vs buying a used transmission is that you at least know what you're getting in the end- a new transmission. A friend of mine has an old, 1998 Camry that had the transmission go out and I suggested that he do the same thing- while the cost of the repair was more than the car was worth, at least you know what you've got at the end of the repair. By the way, it was really cool what you did to help that guy with the Outlander. You're a great guy, Randy. Keep up the great work!
@sccarguy82425 жыл бұрын
You saved the Caprice that’s for sure between the trans, AC and tires. In my opinion, paint on that car would be overboard and probably prevent you from seeing profit. You did your job, you made it safe and reliable for the next owner. With that said I would love to see what a full on buff and compound detail would do to that car. It would not be perfect but I bet it would be way better.

I've always thought of you as a genuine person, now I know that you are such a person. Very wise to change the tires. Three times I have had old radials just disintegrate. Once the tire was laying on it's side in a stack in a garage and it blew up. Another one was a brand new spare I pulled out of a Suburban and ran on my van. Bias ply can age and be fine, but not radials.

Had a 2003 outlander AWD. The car ran great and was very dependable with regular maintenance. With that said I don’t think they were meant to have functioning air conditioning. I spent lots of money rebuilding the entire system and it was never right. If you have one take my advice and accept that you will never have air conditioning. When I see them driving in the Florida heat every one like mine the windows were always down.

Good find on that Caprice, Randy! Those are good cars. I've owned 3 caprices before; an 89, 92 and last was a 94 model, all former police cars. The 89 was the last year for the 700R4, then in 1990, GM renamed the 700R4 the 4L60, which is essentially the same transmission. Starting with the 94 models, they became the 4L60E, which is quite a bit different, but mostly the same tranny. I had to rebuild all of them at least once except for the 89. each time was around $1200-1400.00. Be glad you have the cheaper of the 2, because the 4L60E is much more expensive to rebuild. I went with a GM remanufactured unit for my 94, and that cost $1800.00 with a 3 year, 50,000 mile warranty back in the year 2000. Today I bet is over 2000, so that's a good price you got for your 93.... Good luck with it.

Window tint darkened considerably with the change from R12 to 134A, as 134A is not as efficient in a a/c system, and the auto industry had to lessen greehouse effects. If you've retrofitted the Caprice to 134A, then the darker window tint would make great sense, and make the a/c perform much better. . .!!
