The lights are blackout lights, used for driving in convoy under combat conditions. sometimes called "cats eyes". they were used on all sorts of military vehicles including tanks

We had them on our Humvees also we also had a ir light on the driver side next to the head light for night vision for black out or no moon it would help iluminate in front of the vehicle depth perception still sucked though LOLOL

I learned to drive on M37CDNs when I was a 15-year-old kid in army cadets. Lots of fun. I discovered I could drive, park, and fix pretty much anything after learning on that big basic, powered-nothing truck. I want one now.

Just a correction for prospective buyers, this is NOT a POWER WAGON the Dodge Power wagon was built for Civilian versions only this is a Dodge built M37 3/4 ton pickup. The first Power Wagons were built in 46 right after the war and they did utilize a lot of the same components as the M37 the engine, trans, PTO and transfer case will interchange. The M37 like this one were all 24 volt systems and the original Power Wagons were all 6 volt systems. They were all very durable and reliable pickups I own and restore both!!

I thought the 3/4 ton rating was for off-road. Isn't the on-road rating 1 ton? At least that's what the data plate on mine indicates (not that I'm planning on loading it up with 1 ton of cargo).

m37 = military power wagon = civilianM37 is not Power Wagon. Power Wagon is based on the m37 but they do have their differences. M37's came with cabin as standard It's predecessor (WC51 etc.) came without one (except a couple particular versions)That is as far as I know.

these lights are called (cat eyes ) they are used instead of big head lights they are use full while in convoy the long part lights up ground just in front ----remember they did not have turn sig in the 50s vech. the red part is leting vech be seen a shot distance away

U would think people that own these trucks would know what they are...The M-37 is not a power wagon...the power wagon was the first 4 wheel vehicle sold to the public...it has same drive train, but not as tuff, and looks different. the hood on the power wagon is skinner and the radiator sets right out on front...the M-37 has wider hood, and the radiator sets back inside...The M-37 is a 3/4 ton cargo truck...

They were made to drive in blackout conditions in convoys they stayed very close to the vehicle in front of them and drove with their lights out that little notches in in the lights tell you how close you are to the other vehicle

mine is a 1953 m37 allmost original (meaning parts replaced were same as original--i did make exceptions 24 volt head light bulb @ $47.00 switch to 12 volt same type $7.95 also military spark plugs $17-20 each if you can find them i switched to 6 civilian plugs $2.00 each same with mil. plug wires very hard to find so i used civilian plug wire at $40.00 a set everhing that needed replacing is replaced frpm gd up i may sell mine around $15000.00 very good shape lots of new stuff long list of what i replaced had it 12 yrs so far

The M37 came with 1bfuel can holder on the right side. Buyer beware of the electrical system, it has obviously been hacked to death and may be converted to 12 volt. The small lights next to the headlights are parking lights , blackout marker lights and,.if the truck has turn signals they are also the turn signals. This truck does not have military issue ligjts.in the back. The smaller white light next to the left headlight was the blackout driving light but the hood is missing As the standard military light switch it s also missing, who knows what works now. The light switch h is where the ignition switch is.now.
