This is actually one of my favorite restoration vlogs. Not just a bunch of impractical highbrow BS but instead very practical advice and a lot of hard work with decent results. Also love the subject matter (old Plymouth, Power Wagon etc). So sick of watching people doing "will-it -start's" on Chevy and Ford pickups! I have done plenty of restorations myself but this is really fun to watch!

Hi Dave I see by the intro that the upper lip caterpillar has returned, was that your choice or from the powers above 🤔😃, anyway I fully enjoy you're approach by doing as much as you can buy yourself, it's the only way to learn but us oldies had a harder time, where as today when the internet rules and you can find how to build a paper plane to a nuclear power plant. All we had was a Haynes manual if we could afford one and a very basic tool box. You're the first chap I've seen to repair a fuel take this way in years so much respect. Keep on working this way and you're make a old boy very happy. Gary 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Thanks Gary! Older millineals like myself have it good. Unfortunately we have the world at our fingertips but generally my brood has not the work ethic to put it to work. I guess I got lucky. Thanks for following along and I hope to see you back. Much more to come

What did you clean your gas tank with? Wire brush is too much work. What I have done is fill the tank with vinegar and let it sit for a day or two. A plastic brush will usually clean out any rust with minimal effort. Just rinse it with water after that. Use a replaceable filter since the water rinse will leave a trace of rust.

You’ll have a better time doing a bit of an overlap weld on the sheet metal rather than a butt weld, it’s easier to start and you’ll be less likely to blow through. Obviously this is for patches and not body panel work, but it would have made the tank repairs easer

just make sure the rear steel brake lines can not get snagged on anything you might drive over. with the single reservoir master cylinder, you'd have zero brakes. And that "sensor" is simply called a stop light switch

Its much easier to pull the pan and fix the seal now than when you have the entire truck assembled

exercise a lot of caution and don't spare the assembly lube while repairing the seal.

Dave, the sensor for the brakes is called a brake pressure switch.

I would add, don’t use the original. Mine worked for awhile but failed with a dead sort! Good thing I had a fuse on the line.

What about the copper brake lines ! No one wants to address that , I wonder why , what if he is rolling behind you and your family and he loses brakes and can’t stop ! If that’s was on the truck when he got it doesn’t mean that they are original to the truck . There is tremendous amount of pressure on those lines . And being an off-road vehicle the chances of damage is greater . Copper is much softer then steel .
@Farm_fab
@Farm_fab 3 жыл бұрын
@@rossboyd2272 having recently replaced some brake lines on my van, I can tell you that in all likelihood, the lines he installed are copper plated steel for long life and resistance to rust.
@rossboyd2272
@rossboyd2272 3 жыл бұрын
@@Farm_fab they looked like pure copper not the nickel copper . They used copper back then but was thicker then today’s. Research studies has shown sudden stops does stress the lines and can possibly fail . I haven’t heard any negative news on the nickel copper nix lines and with the type of government research of today there’s not much from these groups I would trust . We are learning of more and more so called officials are on the take .
@rossboyd2272
@rossboyd2272 3 жыл бұрын
Did you use copper brake lines , if I’m not mistaken that’s not safe. It is said that the copper won’t hold up over time and they expand eventually they will brake , this is what I’ve been told . This is why they use steel or stainless. There were vehicles that used copper but the copper used then was thicker then today’s copper especially the copper you get from your Hardwear store the NICOP line is said to be legal. The off road aspect needs to be considered.

They are copper jacketed so they don’t rust

@@partsandresto I’m sure you did your research, but the bad thing is some don’t and that can be dangerous to everyone. When I was younger I to looked at copper because of the same reasons as everyone else and that’s when I learned of the potential hazards of copper brake lines . But today improvements have been made that I am becoming aware of , keep up the good work it’s looking great . Look on line you may find a used tig welder just might be what you need .
