Love the Ram Johnson videos. Keep them coming. Clearly Ram Johnson is plenty capable as is, but if you do ever have to do any work in the rear diff definitely check out the Eaton Detroit TrueTrac torsen differential. It's not a locker, but it is way better than any clutch style limited slip and less extreme than a lunchbox style locker. Not to mention, unlike a selectable locker, it is actually available for your Chrysler 9.25 application.

Loved this video, Jason! Being a Dodge truck man since my high school days, I really partial to your Ram truck related vids. If your thinking of putting in a liner in the truck, I highly suggest you consider the BedRug. There are some great videos out there that show how they compare to spray in or plastic drop in liners. For me, a really great benefit is how I can craw into the put and not hurt my knobby knees. The BedRugs are extremely durable, light weight, good looking, and comfortable. I had one in my 1998 Ram 1500 and totally loved, so when I obtained my 2011 Ram 2500 a couple of years ago, I got one for it as well. When i owned my 98 Ram 1500 I seriously considered upgrading the axles to newer 3/4 ton with disk brakes all around. Sadly I parted ways with that rig before I could do any serious upgrades. As for repainting,...I love the looks of your current scheme; however, if your intent on changing the looks, I like to the 2-tone looks. Stay with the Silver and Black.

The confidence a Jeep lifted on 37s+ with solid axles and lockers is no way near as fun as a full size truck with open diffs off roading. If we’re just talking rock crawling then yes you want that but a sweet trail like this that RAM is awesome. It even looks better offroad to me than a Jeep. Idk if I’d change the paint job either cz it’s so unique and you’re only gona scratch it up...once I upgraded my gears to 4:10 on my 1500 with a stage 1 clutch (6 speed manual) my trail riding is so much more fun!
@AutoEdits4 жыл бұрын
It was more rewarding the day I ran it in the truck, I agree with you 100% I wonder about how much fun this truck would be with a manual trans sometimes.
@amolinari94 жыл бұрын
AutoEdits knowing you (virtually) Jason, I have a feeling in a few years when you don’t know what to do with the truck you may end up doing something crazy like a manual trans swap or SAS etc. my next expensive mod would be an Atlas 4 speed!
@AutoEdits4 жыл бұрын
I have a 4:1 Jeep Rubicon transfer case in the truck right now and it is too low of a gear ratio... at least with the automatic trans. Seems like an atlas would be a similar amount of overkill but with the manual you would probably be able to appreciate the gearing advantage more.

Finally! Congratulations! Reading some of the comments - the compromise is rattle-can with only CLEAR paint. You want to keep it from rusting, but, don't want to lose that hard earned character & patina. Clear rattle-can is the way to go. Definitely could use some Sliders & some metal to cover the dents down there. Diamond Plates? I'm guessing your diffs have too many miles to survive lunchbox lockers, and are you really willing to spend & justify the money on selectable lockers? That's why I elected to just have my clutch-packs replaced, and it works fine. Definitely can use a rear diff skid. Other than that, you don't seem to need anything else. Does Ram Johnson have a 360 Magnum? If so, that's what I've got in my Dark Z; and, yes, it's always an attention getter among Jeeps. Wish you would've invited me; but, sounds like you had a great time by yourself. By the footage I've seen, including yours, Mike Miller wouldn't be much of a challenge for me, more like a check mark, these days. But, yeah, like you said, a lot of it is just driver. I've been there where I just ran out of driver, only to come back the next year, to not even be phased, thinking to myself, That's where I ran out of driver, last time? Gotta hand it to you though. You sure did finally conquer it in style; which, I have to admit, is more than how I would do it. Back seat sleeping for me. That area is bear country. I have a friend that was attacked by a bear very close to where you camped. That's a whole story by itself.
@AutoEdits4 жыл бұрын
The tricky part is nobody makes selectable lockers for this vehicle. Only a detroit style/lunchbox style and standard posi style... and only for the rear... nothing for the front. Yeah this trail in the Jeep is just a day of sight seeing... no challenge at all. Kinda wondered about that bear thing... yikes.

@@AutoEdits Is that a Dana 44A or Dana 44HD, in the rear? Same thing I've got. Everybody says to get a Ford 9" and there's always a ProRock44 etc; but, that is a lot of money in lieu of a $80 set of clutches. To keep the aluminum for scraping, I put a Mountain Vista Fabrications Skid Plate (wondering if it'll fit RJ); and, I don't seem to have all of the off-road problems I used to have; which ended up being a lot cheaper than a full axle swap. I'll wheel what I have, for now, and if my 44A ever fails, I'll probably be giving Jim McGean a call.

Keep the paint - do a paint correction vid and see how she turns out. Adding a selectable rear locker would be nice to see. I miss my 4th GEN RAM watching this vid.

Unfortunately, there isn't a selectable locker for this vehicle. About the paint... there's so much body damage... not sure how to work around that?! And yes... these era Ram is a great truck.

If you go with an Eaton TrueTrac for your 9.25 Chrysler it's a 913A368 available on Amazon and many more locations.

I thinn you should prerunner the fenders and bed sides. And Raptor Liner the paint one color, so trail rash isn't an issue lol
@AutoEdits4 жыл бұрын
By prerunner do you mean fender flares?
@DragonEye4354 жыл бұрын
@@AutoEdits i mean the bulged prerunner fenders and bed sides. They look sick. I admit it would be a pretty big project though lol this is the link to them. www.fiberwerx.com/products/2009-2018-dodge-ram-fenders-4-bulge?variant=31466339303471

So i remember hearing about you wanting to put a rear locker in the Ram, have you looked into Lokka lockers for the front? They seem to be a very sturdy reliable thing and and rather in expensive as well!
@AutoEdits4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion... they don't offer anything for this truck. That's the curse.

Ram Johnson is my favorite of your vehicles! It’s such a rad truck! I like the one of a kind paint job, but understand wanting to make it your own.

That's kind of the tricky part of it!

You could raptor-line, but I actually like the one-off paint scheme. You seem a bit stressed/down...hope all’s well-enough?

I do mostly like the paint job but it didn't age well. I'm doing much better since this trip.

Have you considered Plasti Dipping the whole truck? Did it with my WJ and holds up great. Getting ready to do it with my Ram.

@AutoEdits4 жыл бұрын
It's custom but just look up prerunner bumper for ram and there are some options. Expensive though.
