I wanted to hear his comment when he figured out he put the 2nd ujoint in the H-yoke first instead of the flange yoke...😂

I have no drive line Shop, living in germany and fixing my v3500 Front shaft. Cringed when i saw the mistake. Did the u joint on the other end twice because of wrong grease fiting orientation. I guess that happens if your doing it seldom.

Very good video that’s what I was search for thank you especially the problem with me was with the ball and the seal inside it

Great video. Question though, what protects the CV ball from getting dirt and water inside it. is there not a boot that covers the spring and the needle bearings in the CV ball?

Mine started squeaking. Never knew about that tiny grease spot. I’m replacing the ujoints . I don’t think ball is damaged do I need to replace or can I leave it alone

Dave - I am trying to remove the front drive shaft for my 2003 Dodge Ram. I finally was able to remove the torx bolts (what a pita!). There are no bolts in the transfer case side and I have PB Blasted the ever living crap out of the flange but even giving it a few blows (medium swing) at the flange... it will not come apart! Any problem removing your transfer case side of your truck? Thanks!

U have to heat the bolts up for they will have lock tight on them for sure I’m sure u prob already figured this out lol I see it. Was a few months back U were Inquiring about it however in the future heat the bolts on the back side don’t have to be red hot just hot and they will back out I cut an open end off my I think mine were 5/8 wrench and put a pipe over and went behind the cross member and they came out really nice hope this helps u !! Cheers!

Mine cause a ton of damage. It threw my transfer case out of the driver's side across the highway. I was rolling 75 when it happened.

Unfortunately that's a common tale. Back when I did a lot of insurance auctions I would see a bunch of dodges totalled for that, floor boards all ripped up etc.

If you're talking about the cup seal, I did install it yes. Just didn't show it. I'm not the best at making vids yet 😂

Good vid, thanks. Where'd you get the new ball? or did you reuse the old one? My front 3500 shaft is squeaking and vibrating so this is in my immediate future. lol
@davesgarage92223 жыл бұрын
You can get them locally through Napa etc, or online. Search for CV centering ball repair kit, and it should come with the cup/race, ball, a spring, and the seal. Definitely take care of that soon, if that joint comes apart at speed it will total the truck. Happens fairly often since the front shaft is spinning all the time, in 2wd or 4.

You completely skipped steps at the end of putting the centering ball in

Hi, I used "ACDelco 45U0708" which you can snag on Amazon for $28. Comes with the ball, seal and the tension spring.

Any suggestions on removing the cup that the centering ball goes into? I just attempted this but could not remove the cup and just replaced the ball using the the old one. Bad idea didn't work. You said you grinded it, would that be a die grinder? Any suggestions on that part is much appreciated.....that part is a bugger
@davesgarage92223 жыл бұрын
Hi, I hope you managed to get it out. For me, the ball came right out as it was thrashed, so I used a dremel to cut a notch in the race so it would release from the yoke.
@SuperBadbri3 жыл бұрын
What about the seal when you heat up? Won't it ruin the seal..?

Does the little shaft that the ball goes on ever wear out too? Mine didn't get lubed for more than 110K miles and I think it's making noise.
@davesgarage92223 жыл бұрын
It can, in which case you have to replace that yoke. Usually those are the last parts to wear out though.

Yes the trunnion can be damaged, just took mine apart and it actually broken the trunnion in half. Half of it is stuck in the ball socket. New driveshaft I guess.

I had the same question and he said that you have to replace the yoke.
@davesgarage92223 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately that stub is machined into the yoke, so if it's been damaged you have to replace that whole yoke.
