seeing comments on hub/spindle difference between 2WD and 4WD so here's what I found 1994-1999 2WD have a long tapered spindle. Hub is integrated with rotor and has serviceable bearings (SET3 and SET5) (example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4OUgpucn76AhsU ) 2000-2001 2WD have short non-tapered spindle. Parts stores will sell the hub and bearing as an assembly (Not cost effective to replace the SET814 bearing as bearing cost almost as much as hub/bearing assembly!). (example shown here in Isolated Diesel's video) . 2000-2001 4WD hub has axle splines, and different part number for driver/passenger sides. 2002+ 2WD no longer has a fixed spindle, use same hub as 4WD. Also, the same part number is used for driver/passenger hubs. The axle splines on the 2WD are not used and will rust out, and for 4WD of course the front axle splines mate with the hub splines. (2WD example here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gn-rqniFaaZgj80 ) I guess Dodge decided for 2002, Hey let's stop having 4 different hub designs, and 3 different rotor designs, and merge rotor into 1 part number and hub into 1 part number! Also, they got rid of serviceable bearings to lower work time by using a hub with integrated, non-serviceable bearings. Plus the rotor is simplified too.

Sir you done a great little write up on this subject and got it 99.9% right. 2000 and 2001 2wd hub bearing isn't serviceable. Other than that you nailed it!!! Glad to see someone like your self do research before spreading information. 🙂👍

@@isolateddieselperformance3261 I've edited it. 2000-2001 RWD front hub assembly with bearing costs almost as much as the bearing itself and it's already pressed in, I would definitely buy a hub and not replace the bearing. The SET814 bearing costs about $100 and the hub w/bearing is $115. I rather have those new studs and shiny hub :) Dodge master catalog shows hub/bearing as 1 part number.

I can't tell you what a BIG help this video is!!!I I have a 2000 1500 with 137k miles on it. I really didn't want the truck but circumstances more or less put me in the position where I had to buy it. It's been very reliable and a good descion to buy it. I have done very little to it but I know what that many miles on it I'll have a lot to do as routine maintenance and replacing parts. As I said, it's very reliable, doesn't smoke or use oil, etc. I think I've found a reliable source of information to help me with everything I'll need to do!! Many thanks!!! Btw, her name is Amy and she's a good girl. She ain't got the best body and she's took some licks but she's solid and reliable and SHE'S MINE!!! Again, many thanks!!!

Didn't preload bearings and spin while tightning ? Then turn back 1 quarter? I think thats correct way ?
@isolateddieselperformance32613 жыл бұрын
No sir! Video is the correct procedure. The procedure for what you're talking about is for a hub with serviceable bearings that require a axle nut for setting preload on a bearing and a lock tab washer and a second axle nut to lock it all down.
