I was sixteen years old and my parents asked me if I wanted their beat up Dodge Super Bee before sending it to the junk yard. It was 1976 and I was a sophomore at Palm Springs High School (California). Thank God I had auto shop all three years. By the time I got done with it. I had a beautiful muscle car; almost exactly like the dark green Super Bee you show case in the video. I sold it for $2000 for college tuition. There's not a day that goes by that I kick myself when I think about it. It was a great time to be alive. I now have a 5.7 Hemi Challenger to ease the pain.

OIC, those cars do sound like turd and didn't know you were referring to the ricers. They do not matchup whatsoever nor are they in the same class, and the gen3 hemi cars would be a better way to compare them. That's what I thought you were talkin about, and is one of the things thats missing with modern muscle. Like I said, that is until I heard some with aggressive cams and changed my mind. I've been building a Challenger SRT8 and am thinking about doing a comp or custom grind because of this very reason, and should really rock going through the 3"racing pipes that I've got on her 💪🏼😎

Hello, still have my '71 SuperBee 383 Magnum (slim green) in the garage her in Orange County, CA. I had it 80% restored about 5 years ago and will be doing it over again soon. It has about 125,000 original miles. I purchased it in 1971 and drove it in high school and college. It's still in my name but I gave it to my son. I told him never to sell it.

You are full of shit. The cars from the 70's had a 12k warranty for a reason..they didn't last. The crap Hemi had a 90 day warranty, The bodies were rust bucket garbage, the brakes were good for one power stop, and handling was crap. Newer muscle cars have 50K warranty, and can often go 100K, don't rust, brake, handle, and have 400% better build quality. Stop posting BS.

@@chadhaire1711 Warranty coverage was deliberately curtailed on Hemi-equipped cars as well, since Dodge knew exactly how (and where) these models would be driven. Instead of the standard five-year, 50,000 mile powertrain warranty, Hemi Challengers received a 12-month, 12,000 mile warranty that was valid for the original owner only. www.hemmings.com/stories/2014/08/29/how-does-the-1970-dodge-hemi-challenger-stack-up-against-its-modern-equivalents 1963-70 Mopars DID offer the 5/50 warranty, except on the 426 Hemi cars (12 month/12,000 miles). 1971 was the first year of the 12/12 across the board..
@chadhaire1711
@chadhaire1711 4 жыл бұрын
@@piercehawke8021 The warranty was 90 days not 12 months for the 426. The article is wrong. Also, the factory of today also know how buyers are going to use them and get a full warranty. racing schools are racking up as much as 60,000 miles on hellcats without issues, while a 1970 car would be lucky to make it past 6,000 miles of daily racing. And none of this has to do with your comment saying that these older cars were more reliable which is 100% false.

I've owned Satellites, Fury's etc. Never a Superbee. But my siblings & cousins & I loved the fork out of our uncle's car, a '69 Coronet that he bought/ordered new. Every check box for HD anything, boom..but..in the form of a Coronet 440 model. Inc. a 383 Magnum, 4 spd A-833, 3.23 Sure-Grip rear..HD brakes, suspension, cooling..all that. Turquoise ext and all white interior..a sleeper and lovely one. He removed one tail pipe so it looked like a single exaust car & he put a bigger carburetor on it as the stock ones were too small on the 383..totes a bottle neck & easily cured. An 850 is barely enough to feed that mill..stock were far smaller, around 500 cfm. He street raced it and kicked serious ass :D

It only had 70k miles on it and had every option and the 383. I only paid $500 for it. I drove it every day for 2 years and never had any problems with it. Of course I put a competition series Carter carb and headers on it. I sold it for $1000 to pay my tuition. Wish I had that car now. They only made about 2k of them. Thanks for the video.

4:03 The compression ratio listed for the 383 was correct in this chart for '71 only, previously she was at 10.5:1. Rated hp is accurate in your chart, ofc actual numbers were higher. Much depended on state of tune..ie carb and distributor..and gasoline brand was a big deal, then..for instance my uncles Coronet i typed about in my other comment, he said that Clark 103 octane was so superior in making power to any other fuel it was ridiculous! It felt like an honest 40 hp gain, seat of the pants..like a 10% jump. Burying the speedo was much more effortless with that gasoline. 383 Magnums could hit 400 hp stock on a dyno, then..again, given the right tune and fuel. 426 Hemi. Rated 425 hp. Dyno runs with a decent tune they hit..425 hp at 5,200 R's.. But! .. they made power to 6,100 RPM. And at that rev, talkin' upper 400 range..475-500 hp
@chadhaire1711
@chadhaire1711 4 жыл бұрын
Your figures are bullcrap All the horsepower ratings before 1971 were bogus.....they were taken on a dyno with all items removed like belts, air cleaners, and mufflers. That was the GROSS rating. Problem is when all these items were put back on the engine, and back in the car, REAL horsepower (SAE NET) dropped 18% easy. For the 426 it dropped from 425 to 350. For the 440-6 from 390 to 325. For the 383 335 to 275. Starting in 1972 ALL cars sold had to (and still do) be rated SAE NET as installed in the car with belts, muffler, and air cleaners. . So in 1972 MOPAR dropped the 426 to 350 hp and 440 to 325 hp in their parts catalog. The 2020 5.7 V-8 in the Dodge Charger puts out 375 net, more than the over rated 426 and 440 engines. GROSS hp readings from pre 71 mean NOTHING and neither do your figures.
@gzuzsavz
@gzuzsavz 4 жыл бұрын
@@chadhaire1711 i never mentioned accessories installed. just pure dyno hp. those things needed to actually operate a car ofc matter. however, the engines are still making the gross rating..just bc there are various things drawing power away, does not mean it is not still there. take a jet engine, for example. they are rated in lbs of thrust. a turbine from say, as F-16 has approx 25,000 lbs of thrust. if the pilot lowers the gear..akin to if the aircraft had items drawing power directly, as in the case of land vehicle engines, the turbine engines NET thrust would be lower. So, yes..the 440's & 383's made close to 400 hp. a 380ish hp Gen 3, 5.7L Hemi, then..makes more than the NET rating shows. I'm not saying one way is better or not. Just a hunch..maybe the auto makers went NET to kind of lower the heat coming from gov't and insurance companies? 8:1 compression engines are not that much lower powered than 10:1 mills, as many ppl still think..a view left over from the rating method switcheroo.

Very good video, what you mention is correct, and from what I see in some comments where they say that the "Mexican Super Bees are rare", it is because here in my country Mexico, the economy and the development of the automotive industry over the years From the 60's to the 80's it was highly restricted by national production due to economic inequality in Mexican households and government restrictions. Here, since the production of the Big Block cars and the Challenger platform were too expensive, it was decided to make a profitable sports car, that was the Duster Super Bee, since it shares the engine, suspension, transmission and brakes with the Dodge Dart, so it Its production was more profitable, with the difference that the Mexican 318 shares parts from the American 340 six pack engine, which it kept from 1970-73, and for 1974-79 the 360 engine with 300hp was introduced. I have a 79 Chrysler LeBaron that It has the 360 engine, and here in Mexico that engine earned the fame of being the "Devourer of Mustangs". As for the Coronet (67-73) and Charger (70-73) they were always sold with the 318 engine, very few Muscle Cars with the USA package were sold here, it's very hard to find a Charger, Barracuda, Roadrunner or Challenger in Mexico. For connoisseurs and fans of muscle cars in Mexico, the 360 engine and the 225 Slant Six are very dear, since here they were worthy rivals of the Ford 302 engine and the Chevrolet 350.

The 1968 Roadrunner came out at the beginning of the 1968 model year, while the 1968 Super Bee came out half-way into the 1968 model year. The Rally Dash was optional on other models, but standard on the Super Bee and the Super Bee had a low drag radiator fan option that wasn't available on the Roadrunner. The original high performance 383 engine was called the Roadrunner engine and was only available in the Roadrunner until the 1968 Super Bee came out with the 383 Magnum engine. This engine wouldn't be available in other models until the 1969 model year. The 1969 high performance 383 with manual transmission got special rear springs that were only used in the 1969 model year. Other model years used the same rear springs for automatic and manual transmission high performance 383 cars. The 1968 and 1969 4 barrel 383 engines had the highest compression ratio, with above deck pistons.

2017 Scatpack considered a Super Bee? It has the bee on seats and dash start up animation

It's a different Bee. The Scatpack was actually a news letter and club in the 1960s and 70s.

@@LS1007 In ads Dodge refrenced to them as The Cars With the Bumblebee Stripes.The Scatpack was their whole performance line up in ads from Dart GTS, Coronet RT, Super bee, Charger and Challenger RT. The Scatpack you mailed off for the monthly news letter. A patch, stickers and could get a jacket.

Wow crazy how dodge is still using aspects from classic cars into modern cars the spoiler that’s seen in 9:36 is identical to the redeye spoiler on challys and the bottom lip is the same as modern chally scats/hellcats

Bro, great video. I have always liked old muscle cars, but didn't know much about the Coronet or the Super Bee and I couldn't figure some shit out lol. Thanks, great video. I'm gonna watch the next one just cause. I like the old rides, but if it's as good as this one, I'll learn somethin from it. Thanks.

Well explained. Was always wondering and a bit confused. My bud had a 69 with a 383 4 speed but loaded up bucket seat, console etc interior. Nice car. Some of those Mexican ones are pretty slick. Duster/Demon like. The Bee at 5:04 looks to be actually a Coronet. Wow, thought the 70 would be the most popular. It's my favorite.

The car @ 5:05 isn’t a real Super Bee - in 1970, those tail lights came on Coronet 440’s, 500’s and RT models only.

Nice video I could watch it and pick a part a handful of things and I'm not a expert but I'm into Mopars one thing you could have made note of the RR and Super Bee 69 were A- 12 cars and targeted for racers overall good video - Mopar or No Car

Noticed that he didn’t mention the fact that Chrysler Dodge Plymouth mass produced it so they could race it as a production car and for a few years they won most races in their class.

The 1969 Coronet RT Quarter panel side vents. What was the option code's. Availability. Years offered? 1968 through 71? What was the cost. Induced in what packages? I am also interested in the 1970 model's of hood options. No scoops. Power scoops. Power bulge. Air Grabber. Thank you for looking into this.
