In this video I give a quick tutorial on how to replace the governors pressure solenoid. This solenoid is responsible for controlling line pressure which helps the transmission shift. Many people assume the trans needs a rebuild when they experience slippage but, it could very well just be this $30 part.

I wish I would have known this several years ago, I went to 3 shops with an issue shifting. TCS was the code. I specifically asked all 3 shops if I could just change the solenoid all said "oh no" you can't do that. $2,700 for a rebuild. I just happened to run into a guy at a bar with a transmission shop. He said oh crap! you got hosed! Just change the solenoid. Honest people are few and far between.

You already know there have been others in your same situation. You’d hope people would be honest but, many times greed wins out. That why people stick with mechanics they trust.

Nice video!! We do this service at my transmission shop for $375-400.00, parts and labor (governor solenoid, pressure transducer, filter, gasket and fluid). Sometimes we find the kickdown band strut in the pan and have to pull the valve body (if we can't luck up and get it back in around the body) to re-couple it. The customers don't even know they've been missing 2nd gear and have been shifting 1-3 for a while! lol

TRANGO REPROGRAMING KIT (not just a shift kit) developed on my 92 Dakota in mid 90's took Transgo about a month, Rock solid ever since with about a quarter million miles much towing, add a 12x12 plate and fin cooler with HALF INCH lines (Diesels later came with 1/2 lines) if you do a rebuild on 46 get a 47 core to start with My early trans has the Diesel straight cut gears

A few small modifications like that go a long way with these transmissions.

@@sorta_stock if you put gauges on the cooler lines you see a big drop in backpressure and much greater flow in/out /rad cooler about the same restrictions

You said you were experiencing symptoms, what symptoms were you experiencing? I've got a 46rh that only seems to have third based on my RPMS at 55.

It wouldn’t shift into 2nd gear unless I slammed on the gas. It would also have an issue downshifting (delayed response or sometimes it would wait for me to completely stop first). Manually shifting it into 2nd would have no effect.

Hey, can I get some information from you as far as part numbers. what you ordered from Amazon every time I look something up its telling me it won't fit the truck. If you could throw some Amazon part numbers at me that would be great although mine's in 95 I know they do make subtle changes here and there. Good video are you in the biz.

Thanks Glenn. The part I used for this repair was from a seller called HERCOO on Amazon. P/N: AZMP24230.

Thank you for replying, only drove the truck for a week. Pulled up to a light went into neutral slash no lockup limped down the road a little ways, in and out of lockup started making some noise and that was that.

Any idea why a 2000 46re would overheat after about 30 miles driving? Added cooler, has plenty of flow tested into a bottle, Convertor seems to lock up as it should. Hmmm

Could need a band adjustment. If the bands are too tight, it’ll burn up the clutches and overheat.

@@sorta_stock I'll check into that. I bought the durango with a conv that kept locking up. Replaced it and its been good for about 20k (139k overall on truck) and then started overheating out of the blue.

Nope. Didn’t need it. Drove the truck another 6k miles before selling it. Shifted like butter
