Man, Thanks for the video. EXACTLY what happened to me. I did not push it in all the way to hear the Click. My 2000 Jeep Grand Laredo I6 would not shit from first after preplacing the Solenoid. You all need to add accumulator spring on video might as well switch it out while your at it they are usually busted 50 percent of the time great video very informative . All the videos that are instructional should be as good as yours.Bravo!!!

Noah Jette did it damage the solenoid being plugged in backward? I did the same thing then flipped it still nothing so eventually I found that I was sold a bad sensor. Now I want to put the borg solenoid back in with new sensor but scared I damaged it in the three miles I drove it.

I installed a new solenoid , transducer, the 3/4 accumulator and spring.Still no overdrive. Had my vehicle scanned. It showed the voltage changing, but the line pressure was low.It also showed a code. #21 line pressure circuit. Did I install these items incorrectly ? I would love some feed back before I drop the pan again.

I see this comment was made 3 years ago but I’ll give it a shot anyway. When yours was wrong were you getting issues that would cause the truck to not engage first off of stops and then slam into first once accelerating ? And of course throwing codes causing it to stay in 2nd or 3rd?

Cascade, I think he is referring to the Pressure Solenoid plug. The plug I received was the opposite of the factory plug. If I remember correctly, the factory plug faced down towards the ground and the BORG/WARNER plug faced up. I tried to push it in the wrong way and could not figure out why it was not clipping in, I pulled it out and took a closer look and noticed they were reversed from one another.

It’s nearly impossible to mess this up. If you put the solenoid slot on the wrong one, the housing plate will not mate up flush when installing the bolts.

@@derekmason3242 checked too and it all looked good. The truck doesn't want to go into gear. I have to give it a lot of gas in order for it to catch a then it'll move. Noticed my rpm goes to zero while driving too. I have to turn off overdrive for it to act right. Idk what to do now lol.

I have done a full rebuild on my transmission and just today after like 2-3 years of driving it with it slipping gears found out that my TV cable bracket was not placed correctly down on the transmission selector knob. went ahead and fixed this issue then also adjusted my TV cable to the throttle cable bracket. I'm wondering why it still won't go into overdrive or lock up? But I just saw this video and am wondering if it was placed properly.

I have the 42re in a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 4 x 4 After driving it at 70 miles an hour for a little while it likes to fall out of overdrive. I'm thinking you're feeling I might be able to fix the problem and I also need a rear seal of the transmission to the transfer case

Wish I would’ve seen this video a couple days ago. The groove should be self explanatory. If the shield is not in the right groove it will not sit flush. The wires being reversed though took me awhile to figure out because it was dark under the truck. Once I used a flashlight I could see that the locking tab was on the top of the borg warner part and flipped the wires over. It then went on easy enough. Transmission shifts great now. I also used the older transducer and harness from bd diesel to replace the plastic one

1999 dodge Durango 4x4. My issue is that it would not come out of first gear and go into second gear without you having to take your foot off the accelerator pedal. Every thing I've found pointed to this solution. Got the parts and installed them and didn't fix anything. Ran across this video and took everything apart again and I didn't plug the wire into the Borg part. Plugged it up and put everything together and still it did not help anything. Please help before I had to spend a ton on a new transmission

I'm having the same issue. I installed the Borg Warner kit and it got better but still not great. I adjusted the kickdown cable off the throttle body and it made it a little better, but not even close to what it was. Multiple trans shops have told me the band is worn through and needs a rebuild, but that's kinda their job to sell a rebuild. Not quite sure what to do lol!

I recently did the governor pressure sensor and solenoid and the rest of the components that go along with the kit, drive started working beautifully and wasnt hard shifting and shifted through all the gears smoothly as before it wouldnt go from 2nd to 3rd it would just high rev until I stopped accelerating, I never had a problem with reverse and it was working fine for a few weeks but has randomly stopped working all together, i have the pan dropped once again and was assuming the servo would be broken since its repeated often in the manual but the servo and its components looked in mint condition, although the actuator arm itself is extreamly loose but was loose even before when i first change the solenoid and sensor, I currently go to school at universal technical Institute and all the instructors ive asked are bafled and said thats a new one, i am sure the parts are seated properly because all 4 drive gears works smooth as can be even with reverse not working, could it be that im overlooking something when it comes installation or is there something wrong with the actuator, I haven't tightened the adjustment knob yet because one instructor said the plate is probaly broken but from the manuals ive read the actuator would be loose hanging down and not stay in its home position, it does spring back to home every time you push/pull it with your hand but it is very loose and what the instructor told me about the plate has me nervous to touch anything without digging for other advice first, the truck is a 98 1500 4x4 with the 46re, also both times ive dropped the pan the magnet had the average dust you would expect to see and nothing extreme or out of norm, please help!

sorry for response delay, assuming there's no check engine codes ? during the repairs did you replace the pressure sensor (transducer) at the same time ? * if not then more than likely your culprit, if yes then may be a wiring short or debris within the main external plug connection Also these trucks can be a little picky on fluids, don't run amsoil in them about 10-15% reject it and have temp/shift issues after service , etc.... hope this helps some -

So I have a 42re trans, recently had issues with the it only going in 3rd gear. You could manually put it into 1st, then shift to 2nd but no change, then into 3rd and it would shift, but never go into 4th. I got advise to replace the solenoids so I ordered them and replaced them. See the photo. After finally finishing up and on my first test ride I noticed absolutely no change at all. Please help!

2001 dodge durango 5.9 4x4. Code for governor pressure solenoid changed it an pretty positive i did it right. Reset pcm. Didnt fix it still had the issue for 2 days. Then for a week it shifted fine through all gears now back to not wanting to come out of first gear unless i throw it in neutral then drive then it will shift right. Or if i let it rev to 5k rpm then let it drop to 2k or 1500 then it will shift up. Any one have this issue after new governor solenoid?????

when you were in there did you check and/or replace the 3-4 spring ? ? www.cascadetransmissionparts.com/re3-4accumulatorspring.aspx if all of those items checked or swapped them 99% you have a lip seal leaking on the overdrive piston www.cascadetransmissionparts.com/rhandreodpistonlipsealkit.aspx these can be changed with the transmission still in the truck, but the overdrive housing & transfer case (if 4WD) need to come out there's other soft parts needed for this repair also; to consider if you love the truck it may just be time to build it. replacing only the lip seals should get it back on the road, but tough to say how long - also if you have 180K+ its just time just fyi * we do stock very affordable bundles and the rebuild book for those

I put a used 42re in my 99 grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 4.0 and have cleaned all connectors replaced speed sensor on top left side. Had a mechanic help me put it in also. Soon as we cracked it. She went strait to limp mode not shifting to 4th the hole 9 yards. Did the whole unplug the battery turn the key 3x has new filter. Everything else is working properly as I did a complete diagnostic list of possible problems and ran thew almost everything but it still comes on o/d off and trans temp over heat help me someone before I take 50pds of explosives and my supercell rem mag 7mm and site back watch the mf burn.
