I bought and installed a used rebuilt diff with 3.55s for my 97 GTS. Its always had a slight wine to it for years. I will probably have a professional look at it. Thanks for video!!!

That's great that the bolts were the only loss. 👍👍

Yeah, it's kind of a gift, otherwise I'd probably have to get new internals

Yet another great video. Keep em coming! Hey quick question, does the manual tell you how tight to torque all the different bolts? That’s probably what I’d be worried about the most - making sure I wasn’t over or under-tightening the bolts again. Also +1 for locktite.
@GETUPANDGO5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, more are definitely on the way! So, I don't think the regular owner's manual tells you torque specs, but I think the official maintenance manual does--either way, I'll be confirming the torque specs before reassembling. And I'll definitely be using threadlocker too! Thanks for watching

Meant to break bolts before others parts brake? Ten seems high to have broken but wrong material choice might be intentional or bad design, not sure?
@GETUPANDGO5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm glad the bolts broke, otherwise the diff internals may have shattered, and that's a much more expensive fix

Hey thanks for the upload man, what a nice surprise it must have been to open it up and see the only damage being the bolts! Crazy. I just came into possession of my very first 94 RT/10 (finallyyyyy) and you've got me worried now haha! How did this happen, what was the mileage, what tires were you running, did you stop the instant you heard a noise? So many questions :D
@GETUPANDGO5 жыл бұрын
For sure, I was so relieved when I saw that it was just the bolts. And congrats on the Viper purchase! So my mileage is around 36k, and I'm running Michelin Pilot Sports. I was literally just creeping forward in a traffic jam when it happened; there was a metallic snap from underneath, and that was it. I gave it a couple tiny taps of the gas to make sure the gears had meshed correctly, but when the car wouldn't move and I heard a faint metallic grinding from the rear, I knew there had been a significant failure. But, with that said, don't be afraid; I believe this failure happened on mine because past owners did burnouts. And, when you have 400+ horsepower, 465 torque, high traction 335 tires with no traction control, burnouts are not a good idea. All that power has to go somewhere when you dump the clutch, and in this case, it went to the ring gear bolts. So, unless you've got super slippery tires and/or a wet road, refrain from doing burnouts!

@@GETUPANDGO After I commented I went back and found your video of you explaining it, and then of course the videos leading up to this one! I'm always surprised how videos like yours have less views than I'd expect, but the content really is UNIQUE to our cars in many ways, and having over a few hundred views speaks volumes: How many of us with Gen1's are using youtube!? :D Your channels great man, and I've learned a lot from your various vids. Keep it up I'm looking forward to the future vids! Also, I checked up on our DANA 44's and it's not a very common problem fortunately! Burn outs with fat tires is NEVER a good idea unless it's slick out, I learned the hard way after going through 3 sets of axles in my SRT8 :D *Cheers man
@GETUPANDGO5 жыл бұрын
@@krallopian Ha, no problem, KZbin has a way of burying videos. Thanks for watching and supporting! The Viper definitely isn't as "mainstream" as some other cars out there, but luckily some fellow Viper owners have found my channel, which is pretty cool, and it's fun to make the videos either way. Good to know this doesn't seem to be a common issue with the DANA 44, I hadn't found much on my searches about it, so I think the lesson is no burnouts with sticky 335 tires! Sounds like you've been through a similar process with your 3 axles--damn!

I think one too many clutch-dumping burnouts in the Viper's past by other driver. I was gently inching forward in a traffic jam when they all went
