Amazing. The Washington Senators opened in a new ball park in DC the same year Dodger Stadium opened, then moved to Arlington, TX in 1972 as the Texas Rangers (in a new Arlington Stadium), and have had more 2 new stadiums since. Lesson learned - build it right the first time, keep it up to date.

Very true! Anaheim Stadium had its scoreboard and "Big A" structure collapse during the 1994 Northridge earthquake, while Dodger Stadium only had very minor cracks, despite being 35 miles closer to the earthquake epicenter than The Big A.

As a 4 year old in 1974, Dodger Stadium blew me away. I was born in General Hospital. Love my Dodgers. Lived for years in Los Feliz which was down the road for me. Went often behind home plate in the nose bleed section having Dodger Dog, and a Coke. The serenity of Chavez Ravine on a summer afternoon is bliss. To think that it's even better now is amazing. Great views and a great franchise. Can't wait for next year.

Here's the thing, Dodger Stadium is older than Candlestick Park and the Oakland Coliseum, yet for Dodger Stadium's shortcomings, nobody would put it in the category of outdated. If anything, Dodger Stadium was way ahead of its time, (except for the parking situation), the biggest factor in that longevity is that Dodger Stadium was not designed or configured for hosting football like the aforementioned facilities were, and even if compared with nearby Angel Stadium the difference in upkeep and aesthetics are easily identified, some the site lines on the lower level at Angel Stadium are still off (seats between the dugout and foul pole face away from home plate) because of the renovations needed to house the LA Rams after the 1980 season. Dodger Stadium has always been well maintained and cared for, so much so the late Vin Scully used to describe the condition of the ballpark this way; "Every time you're here, it looks as if it was just built yesterday" I was a season ticketholder in the 1990's (when Fox bought the Dodgers from the O'Malley family), and they immediately made drastic changes like adding seats behind home plate between the dugouts and an almost instant saturation of in stadium advertising (which the O'Malley's loathed), I got a tour of the ballpark a few times, and previously there was an additional clubhouse on the 3rd base side which was colloquially known as the "Angel Clubhouse" (Remember, the Angels played at Dodger Stadium prior to the opening of Anaheim/Angel Stadium) it was cramped, barebones and used as a dressing room for musical acts and as a stand in on tours for the real Dodger clubhouse which is off limits to the public during the season, I remember a staff member saying something to the effect that a l lot of players like playing here because of the old time feel of the clubhouse, I'm guessing that isn't the case anymore with the proliferation of new plush baseball only facilities since the 1990,s and push for more amenities and space to lure big name free agents. There is also a period in time where FOX had put out that they were exploring building a new ballpark in Downtown LA (in the area where Crypto Arena and LA Live now sit), and the reaction was sheer hostility from season ticketholders, I remember so many of them told the team if the team moved away from Dodger Stadium they would cancel their season tickets, and so then that proposal quietly died, and since then hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent by the various team owners to update, refresh, and modernize the ballpark without taking a single penny of tax monies from the city, county, or state. There are things that Dodger Stadium that are less than perfect and in the case of traffic, purely infuriating but it's uniquely Los Angeles and the nostalgia covers a lot of the shortcomings and so Chavez Ravine will be home for at least a couple more decades.

My memory differs on a few things: 1) the dumb proposal to move downtown was to the Sports Arena (now BMO Stadium) site; 2) the seating areas of the 1966 portion of Anaheim Stadium weren’t altered for the Rams move ; and 3) technically, most of Candlestick Park was completed in 1960, two years before Dodger Stadium opened. Now, let’s kill that McCourt gondola!

I took the tour at the Dodger stadium O'malley was friends Walt and he was invited to Disneyland and was given the tour of operations of Disneyland and both O'malley and his wife fell in love with the architecture and landscaping from Tomorrowland so he incorporated some of Disneyland's Tomorrowland into Dodger Stadium. That's how it was explained to us in the tour.

As a lifelong Dodgers fan since the late 70’s, and SUFFERING through Frank McBroke, I agree it’s refreshing to see an organization spend/reinvest money into their product to consistently improve the team, support team, front office and playing facilities (including Camelback Ranch-spring training facility). While I realize most fans are pissed at Guggenheim for shelling out money into the team, the real problem is the other owners who just pocket their profits rather than reinvesting them to reward their players and fans.

There’s got to be a building permit file with a stamped set of drawings and a general description of the work. The permit file should be a public record-maybe not detailed schematics due to the security concerns of any major sports facility open to the public-but it’s not a “complete secret.”

It is good to see a business do what it can in upgrading their facilities for the players and the infrastructure itself. The Red Sox have been doing this for decades, adding things to Fenway, making upgrades/improvements to the tune of $300 million so far in the 20+ years the current owners have been in charge. As someone who saw well over 100 games before 2002 when Fenway Sports Group took over...Fenway is SOO much better now than back then! More expensive too, but that's a cost of being Fenway...haha. I'm NOT a fan of using government money for these businesses. You bought it, you own it, fix it up yourself! Ala Fenway Sports Group, Robert Kraft and even Delaware North (all Boston stuff) and now the Dodgers. Nice!

I took a behind the scenes tour of Dodger Stadium after the last renovations a few years ago. The Stadium and locker rooms were first class. How can they possibly improve on something that was already beyond beautiful. The Dodgers are always a step ahead of the competition. Invest and reinvest in your product and your customers. The Dodgers get it! And as for parking, leave the lot alone. It’s just fine. It doesn’t need to be developed with condos, shopping centers and “affordable housing”. It’s PRIVATE PROPERTY! Until you can figure out away to pry people away from their cars, the massive lot should stay. Additionally, the parking lot generates MASSIVE revenue. Why would they give that up. Los Angeles is a vast city and many people are not into public transportation. This is NOT New York where you can just jump on the subway train and get off at the Yankee Stadium station. We don’t have the infrastructure to that extent. If and when a new Dodger Stadium is built, it will likely be built in the same location and footprint but even bigger! The Dodgers continue to lead the Majors in attendance drawing nearly 4,000,000 fans each year. The fans keep coming. They are obviously doing something right. Again, the Dodgers Get it!

When it's complete, fans won't even notice there was a renovation in the first place. The upgrades are only noticeable for baseball players and team staff. The only noticeable difference next season from a fan's perspective is the addition of the 2024 World Championship banner.

Dodger Stadium still looks nice, nice they are doing upgrades, but I hope they don't overdo it (thinking about the Oakland Colosseum upgrades, although I understand it was multipurpose, A's Baseball and Raiders Football). I think the original Dodger Stadium had a plethora amount of foul territory along the first and third base lines and behind home plate, so they (Dodger ownership) filled some of that area with luxury box seats. Nice they are upgrading the clubhouse for the players. At Candlestick Park in San Francisco BCE (Before ChinaBasin Era), the clubhouse and dugouts were not connected, so players had to enter/exit the clubhouse along the left and right field foul lines and walk to the dugout.

Dodgers have the best Grounds crew and even the older concession workers were amazing. Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys tried to steal the workers in the 90s .He hired a handful of concession workers from the Dodgers to work for the cowboys home openers. The logos are mowed off , not removed.

The project isn't fully publicized since it doesn't really affect anything from the fan's perspective, only players and their staff. When it's completed, there won't be any obvious changes to the stadium structure if you're attending the games. The new Dodger Stadium clubhouse renovation upgrades will reportedly include a drainage system and self-cleaning floor in the locker room due to the increased number of champagne showers each season. 🍾

The area behind the outfield was improved in anticipation of hosting the 2020 All-Star game that year. Due to the pandemic, Dodger Stadium didn't host the All-Star game until 2022. Current ownership is not afraid to spend on the team itself or in the facilities. They've made various rounds of improvements or refurbishments to the stadium from the start. Much of an improvement over the prior owners who looted the team.

Man, if I was a rich billionaire owner, this is what I would want to spend money on. This would be fun. This is the point of owning a team you can do what you want with the field or the stadium. The team itself. I don’t care about cars and houses. Maybe I’d have one or two nice houses I’m a billionaire after all, but you’re not constantly buying houses you buy One or two every 10 or so years. Brodie - it’s Wild Theory time: I think I know what that hole is in the infield - maybe the trench across the mound area, too. With so much focus on the A’s and the Coliseum this year, one of the Dodger’s execs obviously saw a retrospective on former A’s owner Charlie Finley - a great salesman responsible for many elements of the game as we know it today (colorful uniforms, white shoes, etc). Not all of Charlie’s ideas took hold, but OBVIOUSLY the Dodgers are tying to bring one back - the world-famous mechanical rabbit that popped out of the ground near the home plate umpire to deliver new baseballs!!! I mean - what else could it be? That trench is probably for the pitcher to send the old, used balls back to the “Rabbit Hutch”. I hope the idea catches on this time!!!

If I was the Dodger owner, I would redo the outfield bleachers. Add in a big outfield seating perhaps with bars, restaurants, and other amenities. One issue with Dodger Stadium is it is rated as one of the most pitcher friendly parks. This is due to summer night games after 9:00PM or so the climate turns cold and a cold breeze will blow inward from the outfield. This turns many home runs into routine fly balls. Aside from missing the home run excitement, many top sluggers may not sign with the Dodgers for that reason. A large outfield structure could help block this breeze. Angels Stadium down south ranks in the middle for pitcher/ hitter friendliness so it should be doable with help of wind and climate experts. This would also be an opportunity to redo the outfield score boards. The left field screen in 1981 was the first color screen in a ball park. Today, some shopping malls have bigger color screens.

Pretty amazing. While the stadium had very controversial origins, the Dodgers have done a lot to make it the most iconic stadium in Southern California (even over the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the Rose Bowl). You could probably say it’s the most iconic sports facility west of the Mississippi amongst all sports facilities.

When a stadium or arena for any sport has the correct location and is maintained well and updated when needed, the stadium can become an asset. Many teams can learn from this. Fenway, Wrigley, Dodgers, Lambeau, Arrowhead and The Forum are the venues that pop to mind for me. The stadiums and arenas must never be publicly funded. Always private. Unless the time the stadium is used for non sporting events the money made is 100% put back into the public funds. Teams should get help in the infrastructure from the public, so services like Water/Gas/Electric and transportation access should be helped only. Maybe if the team owners didn’t see the public funding as free money they would keep around for longer and may not build a new stadium so often. That’s from my UK perspective. I may be wrong.

I remember a few years back they had a serious and embarrassing drainage/sewage issue in the 3rd base side foul territory, over to the dugout, costing a game or two in postponement. I wonder if that problem is in scope for their work here, along with what clearly looks like adding new subterranean clubhouse facilities of some sort. I love Dodger Stadium; I grew up a Dodger fan, but last time I set foot there was in the early 90's. Your pics of the stadium's current condition (construction notwithstanding) show the definite age of the facility and wear over the years. The seats look like crap, compared to how I remember them. That said, I'm glad to see them fixing the place up some more! It, along with the entire Chavez Ravine area, is definitely an MLB classic!

I went to the adult Dodgers baseball camp in June of 2023 for 4 days. They put us all in the visitors locker room. Under that stands next to the locker room was a batting cage, tables for the trainers, snack room, bathroom/showers and a large area to feed the players before a game. I believe that area is shared with the expensive seats when the game starts. Everything is kind of dated expect the locker rooms. The new areas could have two batting cages and an area for position players to warm up their arms during the game plus a whole new locker area. It will be interesting to see. Usually Dodger stadium gets new grass every year along with Angel Stadium and the San Diego Stadium. The grass for all the stadiums is grown in the Palm Springs/Indio area. The sod is cut in these long giant rollers. It is a special short cut Bermuda grass that only grows well out in the desert. It is interesting to watch how the grass is installed. There are KZbin videos showing how it is done.

I think the Dodgers aren't telling anyone about the clubhouse details because actual photo or video of clubhouse layouts and amenities seem like a guarded secret.
