Didn't matter where you were from if you liked baseball you knew about Fernando Valenzuela as he swept through baseball in 1981 when he was a 20-year-old rookie sensation and began the season 8-0 with a 0.50 ERA. Prayers for the family and loved ones. RIP El Toro

If I may add, For Mike Brito. Cue the opening fanfare from "The Lonely Bull" on the organ. (Where have you gone, Helen Dell? A nation turns its lonely ears to you.) Also, For Jim Gilliam. In 1978, just after winning the National League Championship Series, "Junior," a Dodger Rookie-of-the-Year winner and at-the-time one of Lasorda's coaches, passed away days before the the World Series against the dastardly New York Yankees. We fell short honoring him that year. May this be the year. (And may we get a restraining order against any Yankees' big butts while they are on the basepaths?)

I wasn’t alive to see him play but as a Hispanic and more importantly a dodger fan, his impact makes me proud to support the Dodgers now more than ever, RIP 34 🕊️

can white people like Freddy Freeman for the same reasons ? here is your sentence….” I wasn’t alive to see him play but as a white and more importantly a Dodgers fan ….see …?? There are pro teams he was on in Mexico. Fernando traveled towards white culture and away from hispanic culture to be on the Dodgers. He abandoned “his people” . How low can a guy feel to be uplifted because a player “is Mexican” . If Freddy was Mexican would there be a bigger celebration?

The robbery of people's homes in Chavez Ravine to pave way for dodger stadium left a lot of anger for many in the Mexican community, towards the Dodgers and the city. Valenzuela turned that around for them. You couldn't help but feel pride and cheer them on when he was on the mound. Gone too soon. May he RIP 🙏.

A multi-cultural icon with a boyish face who, during his first full year with the Dodgers, led them to a World Series victory over the New York Yankees Hopefully, in honor of the Great Fernando Valenzuela, a new multi-cultural icon with a boyish face will lead the Dodgers to a World Series Victory over the New York Yankees during his first year with the team.

Dude, what kinda reporting is that, from the small town of Sonora?
@ciabattatom521
@ciabattatom521 3 ай бұрын
It could be a simple case of linguistic semantics. The reporter did say "a" small town of Sonora, not "the" small town of Sonora. Someone from Irishtown (now Pine Grove) would be from a small town of California. Either way, I feel the reporter deserves a break. Chuck O'Herrera does sound very Irish, so what would he know?

Why point that out here and now on this tribute page to the man who just passed away? (Unless you root for a team that took 42 seasons to finally make it to a World Series and might take another 42 years to play in its second.)

@ciabattatom521
@ciabattatom521 3 ай бұрын
@@johnchieze530 Gosh! Did I mistakenly detect a touch of envy in an unnecessarily inconsiderate comment on a tribute page to a man who just died, from someone whose profile displays the insignia of a perennial minor-league team with one "Cinderella" season in its history? The Dodgers get no credit for 2017. A "pandemic" World Series counts more than a World Series awarded to a team that gets to "claim" the championship despite having been caught cheating. And a pandemic World Series definitely counts more than a 2002 teams' sole fluke championship surrounded by 64 seasons of ineptitude. The Angels have only appeared in nine "other" post-seasons, managing only 16 wins out of 48 total playoff games. They advanced in only two of those 11 playoff series during those nine other post-seasons. The Dodgers have only had 12 total losing seasons during the Angels' entire existence. The "Fail-O's" have had 12 losing seasons since winning their fluke World Series in 2002, including the last 9 seasons in a row. One would have to go back 45 years to find the Dodgers' ninth most recent losing season. You can try invalidating the Dodgers win in 2020, but every team had a chance to win during that year. Well... not every team, I guess, since the Angels sat out the 2020 post-season, then the 2021 post-season, then the 2022 post-season, then the 2023 post-season, then this year's post-season, as well as the five post-seasons before the pandemic year of 2020. I have just come to the conclusion that I must be the envious one. My last 12 autumns have been ruined by inconveniently consecutive Dodger playoff runs. It makes me realize that you are the lucky one. Your only tragedy is having to endure that single 2014 playoff series out of the last 15 Angel seasons. Did the Angels win any games during that series? No... they got swept? Well, thank goodness your trauma was minimalized. If only the Angels had a formidable player like Shohei Ohtani during some of those years. Oh, that's right. They did, but he escaped "Anaheim" to play for a "real" Los Angeles team, thus finally getting to experience championship baseball in late October. Hopefully, Mike Trout will get to participate in more than three career games in the post-season, before it's too late. Of course, being rescued from Angel-enslavement must occur before he too can feel like a free man (or a Freeman!).
