Later edit: I saw some of you commented about the attacking group that basically started everything. The story I told you in the video was told to me as well by the locals. I did some research on my part, but apparently some people, which I will not name, are certain that part of the attackers we're from the organization I mentioned. I don't want to go into politics. The aim of this video is just to show that the Maranao people of Marawi are friendly, wellcoming and that some progress is being made so they can live a normal peaceful life. We cannot change the past so it's more important to look forward to the future but also don't forget about what happened to not make the same mistakes again. This channel focuses on the positive aspects of the people and the Maranao are some of the most resilient and positive people I've ever met. Hat's off to them. 🙏🤗

If you looked at the message i mentioned in the video there was a skirmish 2 days before we went there. My philosophy is that if you go looking for bad people you will find them. If you go looking for positive things you'll have a good time. I'm from Visayas though. It happened when I was in middle school/elementary way back 2013. There was this pretty lady with a back pack walking towards the mountains in my neighborhood but was later caught because people already suspected her being an npa because she is new to the place and people in my area are like human cctv or "marites". Plus the barangay official's houses are just beside the highway so they spotted her/them easily. Other npas asked free food when they visited my aunt's place in the mountains. That's when I realized that people should inform the lgu or nearest military camp immediately when someone is npa or terrorist.

Bizzare. In Malaysia, there is ISIS Malaysia, but it's the government think tank, ISIS is an abbreviation for the Institute of Strategic and International Studies. I used to work there for several years, the office is just next to the national monument. If you guys can recall, the Muslim terrorists are non existent few decades ago, not until the unknown terrorists attacks in NYC, few European cities, which all suggested that the attacks can only happen with insiders access.The terrorists do not represent either the Muslim or Islam. Hi Gigi & Mike, I admire your courage going down there that few dare to go in that part of Mindanao. The reason is that place is still under category "danger zone" for there were lots of boobie traps, unexploded bombs and mines planted around the area by the rebels that the military is still searching for it. If the military has fox holes, the rebels build "rat holes" in every buildings to conceal their movements around because if they go out the streets, the soldiers will find them. The fighting goes from door to door with rebels and military soldiers and took almost 6 months to subdue and eradicate the rebels from the city itself. It was so sad that happened in that peaceful moslem seaside city but life has to go on. Just like my comment that ask for local assistance going places down south. Most of the area if not all were actually a part of Philippine military base there and/or belong to a private claimants now being occupied by local residents. Overlapping claims put the government in slow phase to implement full rehabilitation and compensation on damage claims. These had been the case for many areas in the Phi; a result of poor rural and zone planning and implementation.

"TO BE FRANKLY HONEST YOU'RE THE BRAVEST VLOGGERS......" sir's speaking the truth. I worked and lived in marawi for four years, in marinaut to be specific (ground zero during the siege), I never once go around the place like you did. Shopping? hang out with friends? nah, never except for that certain two occasions. Hmm, friendly people, yes that I can confirm just like other filipinos who puts smiles on their faces. Normal people of course just like us trying to make a living, laugh nd cry with/for their loved ones and friends. Their camaraderie is amazing, in distress and in need of help? the whole clan and some distant relatives will come to help and support. What makes the place dangerous is some of their cultures and beliefs. Rido the very common one. offend one of their family members the whole clan will get you. If the 'offense' isn't settled today they'll settle it in the next five to ten years. Kidnapping? i know some incidents during the 4 yrs living the place. Killing someone in the broad daylight is normal that when someone is shot dead in front of them they'll go on with their lives like nothing happened. Why you may ask? probably rido, don't want to get involved with the fights or else your whole family will be in danger as well. Four years living there that I began to get used to hearing gunshots almost everyday, that when the war started i thought it was just some "normal" shoot to kill in the head incident. Speaking from the experience here.🤷 I don't know the situation now but I don't have the courage to go back to that place with just 2 or 3 people with me.

This is in my opinion such an simplified and illogical way on viewing things of which it tried blame in our military/government rather than the groups who invaded it in the first place. We all need to remind ourselves that urban warfare will always be a messy affair, the romans and jews can attest to that. No matter what the military can do to mitigate it, it is an unfortunate truth that properties, lives, and many other important things will go sunder.
