i bought this game recently and didn't play on novice for my first try, which i definitely should have, since i suck at cave shmups. this looks still really challenging for an easy mode

Well, you're not entirely wrong, I mostly prefer the normal version of the novice mode since the black label novice is still quite hard. I managed to satisfy the requirements to meet Hibachi in the normal novice (thanks to the restart option that takes you back to the beginning of the current stage with everything you had at the start of it, which is useful if you are training for a 1cc run), but I had a hard time doing so for the black label novice (Zatsuza's requirements are even worse). So yeah, if you have a hard time, better train yourself in the novice modes before trying the normal mode and normal black label (also, it's sad that the arranged black label doesn't have its novice, I guess it will be quite the challenge to play a run to encounter that secret boss).

I forgot to mention the fact that in black label you can use both laser and rapid shot, which makes things easy if it wasn't for the red gauge that increases if it detects both of them in action (but luckily decreases if you aren't using both laser and rapid shot or you use a bomb/hyper). If you aren't familiar with the red gauge, if it is filled enough to reach the first bar (or is maxed out) it simply increases frequency and speed of bullets of both enemies and bosses (and in some cases adds a layer of bullets or lasers). It is also connected to a requirement to meet either Hibachi or Zatsuza, something like defeating all bosses with a maxed out red gauge.
