He isn’t dying. Just wasting the bombs. In this specific edition of the game, bombing gives you extra point that based on your current chain. This is actually how he managed to max out the score counter.

Each time you die, your bomb stock capacity increases. Since bombs give a lot of score later on, it's optimal to max out the capacity early so you can hold more bombs until the time comes to cash them out. Bomb refills also fully restock your bombs in 1.51, so having a larger capacity makes the bomb refills a lot more valuable in terms of score.

Um yeah, calling complete bullshit on this. Not only did the player hyper before the transition, but he bombed as well. You can't enter Ura loop otherwise.
