PLEASE LISTEN IN STEREO
More and more Eurorack manufacturers offer stereo modules. Dieter Doepfer is no exception and has finally introduced his first stereo filter.
The Doepfer A-121s is an analog dual multimode filter which can be used for stereo applications as well as for parallel or serial dual mono filters. The core is a 12dB multimode filter with a special highlight: each filter allows morphing from lowpass via notch and highpass to bandpass, and this can be done manually or via CV!
The module offers single and common controls, both manually and CV controlled, for all parameters, including frequency (F), resonance (Q) and type (T). Additionnally the spread parameter (delta FM) controls the frequency difference between the two filter cores, manually and using CV.
The A-121s is more than the sum of its parts. The added common controls and CV inputs allow for a new dimensions of sound design. Normalised connections enable easy patching and CV routing.
The A-121s is an excellent addition to the lush array of Doepfer filters. As a stereo filter, it offers possibilities that would be quite difficult to realise with two mono modules. This good-sounding and versatile filter shows its strength accordingly when used in stereophonic signal paths, for example in the sum or behind a stereo mixer. The panorama effects that result from the variety of modulations are sometimes spectacular. A real recommendation for stereo processing!
In this video we process a simple synth sequence and enhance it with stereo filtering.
