The boost is 30 seconds until the the apu temps rise above 80c and then it goes on a lower powered boost for 1 minute depending where your temps are. (These are based off my own testing) I find this can be useful for benchmarking as it gives you higher scores

30W turbo mode is 30w sustained, there is a 2 min and 10 seccond boost that can go up to 53w (assuming thermals are ok), also tdp does not necessarily mean power usage, which is dumb but its true

Hi, your video gave me great insight! I have a cheap 5-in-1 Vention USB hub that supports 100W Power Delivery (PD). If I want to unlock the 30W turbo mode on my ROG Ally, do I just need to buy a 100W GaN wall charger and the right cables?
@cppctek3 ай бұрын
Indeed. Just pickup a 100w charger and a 100w cable. I’d go short on the cable to ensure proper power delivery. So 3 feet usually work good

@cppctek Жыл бұрын
Well the reason for having 1440 or certain resolution / refresh rate combos working is the dock itself. That’s why I got rid of the asus dock/charger combo. It’s junk to most folks. Putting another charger on that one won’t help though. The best option is find a dock that has display port out and then you will have wayyy better 1440 support.

Not sure if this is normal or not, but when I have my Ugreen 100w charger plugged into my Jsaux RGB dock. I notice that my battery level drops on my Ally when gaming, whereas the stock charger from Asus will take my Ally to 100% and hold it there. The Ugreen will get to 100%, it just won't hold there when gaming
@cppctek Жыл бұрын
Make sure your plugging it in the top port on the ugreen charger. One of them can do 100w and the other does 65 I think. But also check and make sure when you hit the left button next to the the seen that brings up the ally overlay see in the options on screen if it says 25w turbo or 30w turbo when plugged in. Also using a dock and charging does consume more power than just playing it on its own so your mileage may vary there.

@cppctek4 ай бұрын
You’ll need a usb c to c cable that can do at least 100w charging. Dont get over 4 foot unless you go with a super beefy 240w cable to ensure it has enough ability to transfer the power that far. I’ve got several 5 foot cables that won’t let me run the full 65w needed to get the turbo mode working so I now mostly have 3-4 foot cables and the one 5 foot cable I use can do up to 240w and it works great on the turbo modes.
@voodoo9392Ай бұрын
hello bro i want ask something. my original charger ( adaptor 65w ) give me 30W when im docking the question is. i still need 100w charger for better performance? or just use this original charger coz original adaptor 65w already give me 30w turbo when im docking
@cppctekАй бұрын
Well if you hit the toggle button in armory crate and you see the words “30w turbo” are avail while docked with stock charger that’s rare and not the normal. Because the ally uses every bit of the 65w charger and it splits the 65w to all of the components on the handheld. Everything uses power like the motherboard, cpu, gpu, sound processor, buttons, ports, battery charging, screen, nvme drive, wifi, Bluetooth and more. Everything consumed a bit of power. Now yes even in handheld mode or docked mode it can boost up to 30w but that’s not the same as the official 30w turbo mode itself because that mode will boost up to 53w and if your stock charger is also having to power a dock and everything else… it’s not going to Give the same performance also you’ll have battery drain reported by a lot of users also as the battery has a hard time staying charged as the stock charger is struggling to supply everything enough power to keep up. The only other dock that can do all this without a 100w is of course the ASUS branded charger dock combo but that’ one isn’t that great of a dock.

Has anyone ran into problems using 3rd party 100w chargers and it messing w turbo mode performance?
@cppctek3 ай бұрын
Yes. Most of the time it’s the cables fault. Try a different cable but make sure it’s rated for 100w or 240w and make sure it’s not longer than 4 feet or the ally will refuse to enter the 30w turbo mode

Im sorry for my ignorance, but kind of didn't understand well. I connect my rog ally to a portable monitor, so the power is being distributed to the monitor and the rog ally (Im getting a constant 60 fps with the 65 w charger). However, if I use a 100 w charger, do I get more fps?
@cppctek Жыл бұрын
Try this. Click the left middle button beside the screen that brings up the rog overlay. Simply look and see if it says “25w turbo” or “30w turbo” If you are only seeing the “25w turbo” mode enabled and you click that button and it doesn’t show you 30w turbo it’s 100000000000% fact you are leaving performance on the table because your device isn’t being pushed hard enough. When you’re gaming the stock 65w charger maxes out completely!! So if you’re trying to push a dock or a screen too. My gosh brother are you gunna be missing some power there

@@cppctek Alright thanks a lot, my rog does say 25 w. If I use a 100 w charger would it overheat my rog than before?
@cppctek Жыл бұрын
@dokkaebicr7902 no it has nothing to do with heat. It’s needing more power to even hit the same performance it does without the screen or dock. Just plugged in normally by itself it hits the 30w turbo but you 100% should buy a 100w adapter to give you the full performance. Also will charge it faster and safer too if you get a good charger with the gan technology. It actually prevents it from over heating while charging like the ugreen ones. Here’s the one I have. It’s on sale for $47.99 and I paid wayyy more for mine. If I needed one and didn’t have several I’d buy it again lol. It’s the best one for the money
@ziingabox Жыл бұрын
@@cppctek Thanks a lot. You just saved my gaming experience
@cppctek Жыл бұрын
@dokkaebicr7902 heck yeah run some benchmarks and watch how the performance is before and after and lmk. You can also download apps like cinebench r23 for free and it will run a cpu benchmark it’s safe and free. Gives you a score at the end to compare with. Also many games have built in benchmarks now too so like cyberpunk has one, modern warfare 2, tomb raider and more. I’ve ran every thing and there’s def a noticeable diff in aaa titles like mw2 and forza and cyberpunk comparing 25w turbo to 30w turbo. That number is also just for the cpu/apu wattage target. The whole system power draw including everything like the screen and rgb and all internal components combined your pulling 65w ++++ out the power jack so when you use a dock or screen it splits the power to the screen or dock and you no longer have the option to hit those same performance metrics. The ally is very smart and can tell exactly how much power it needs and will like you. It’s sort of like if you took a desktop pc and took the cpu from 5ghz to 3ghz you’d notice a difference

Would I be able to use a 240w cable with the UGREEN Nexode Pro for my Asus ROG ALLY?
@cppctek4 ай бұрын
Yes. I’ve got one. Works fine. It’s just rated for up to 240w but it will only pull in up to what the device is going to pull. On the og it’s up to 65w and on the ally x it can pull 100w but if your using a dock you’ll pull a bit more to power dock too but anything 100w and above is all you’ll need. 240w will work but won’t be any more efficient or effective as a 100w

@cppctek25 күн бұрын
amzn.to/49Mye2H amzn.to/4fq0jhe Here’s two links for the chargers that I can confirm will give you the most performance. The ally is essentially smarter than we are so what happens is they include a 65w charger and boy that things maxed out working to its peak with zero room for extra devices being powered. It spits that power to every component on the board, fans, screen, lights, ssd, buttons, wifi, bluetooth, charging battery and then the cpu/gpu. It has a very specific amount of power it can allocate to each device with the 65w charger in mind. The second you put a dock between the ally and the charger, the ally knows. It’s instantly wants to keep ensuring it can keep the battery charged as a priority and it won’t allow the 30w turbo mode you get when plugged into without the dock. So in order to get the best of both worlds. It needs a few extra watts to power the dock and still pass through that full 65w from the dock to the ally. The docks themselves consumes wattage too and the ally knows what’s up.
