Does a Boat Water Maker Need a Boost Pump?

High output marine water makers for boats need a boost pump to push sea water through the systems plumbing and prefilters and into the systems high pressure pump. By not having a boost pump, you are putting extra wear and tear on the high pressure pump and RO Membranes.

Then how would you overcome the restriction from dirty filters even below water line in my 15+ years in the field of RO both land based and vessel design. You should always have at least 2psi positive pressure.

This was helpful! We have a boost pump on our 160 gal/day little wonder system which is pretty old. It was already installed when we got the boat. We swapped out the membrane, cleaned out or replaced filters, and cranked it on. We were making water!!! Then, after about 40 hours of use, the boost pump won't turn on. From this video, I'm assuming it's safe to still run the water maker because it's not a high-output system?
