Does A Frame Rail Absorb Energy?

If you were to jump off the roof of a house would you rather land on concrete or a mattress? Neither would feel good but the mattress would absorb some of the energy from your fall. That’s similar to the way modern day frames are designed. Along with many other safety features built into a vehicle, the frames are designed to absorb energy and transfer energy aways from the passenger compartment of the vehicle.
