Does A Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box REALLY WORK? | PetSafe ScoopFree

If you have a cat, there’s no doubt in my mind that you absolutely hate cleaning out the terds and ice bergs of pee several times a week like I did.
Not only does it smell, the whole process is messy, dusty, and sometimes down right disgusting.

Along the way, I learned quite a few things that you won’t find in other youtube videos, because I too watched them all in frustration before I decided to overlook the negative reviews youtube and amazon and simply try it for myself.
Why did I do this? I was simply tired of cleaning out the litter box, and I knew that there had to be a better way. The litter box I purchased is really good, but there are a few problems that you need to be aware of, because for some people this litter box will not be a life saver. At the end of the video, you’ll have all the knowledge required to make an informed decision for yourself.

I wasnt prepared to pay the £46 for 3 when i have 4 cats. My solution was to use a large litter tray liner in the original card tray and tuck in and hold in place with lid. 6 month on and box is still clean and only cost me £4.50 each time rather than £15.

Cassycat99 You’re best calling it up here on KZbin to see how it works. Basically it’s a globe which rotates and sifts out the clumps and dumps them into a drawer. Then rotates back and lets the sifted litter back in. Major drawback is the litter robot is expensive. But you will never have to stoop and scoop again. I had to get one as I can’t bend to scoop anymore.

I bought a refurbished Litter Robot. It looked like new. Everything was wrapped in plastic like when new. It took over a month, but my pickiest kitty uses it. She figured it out that it will get rid of the waste, so she no longer obsessively paws the litter over everything either. It is pretty quiet, too. Definitely uses less litter! Their bags for the waste are heavier duty than garbage bags. Just look on their website to see if there are any refurbished units available. However, I have two senior cats that are used to traditional boxes and one is not very mobile or flexible anymore. She has to have something lower to climb into. So, I am going to try this system. I'm thinking if you put a liner in the tray maybe you can use the tray longer because you could buy bagged crystal litter and refill until the cardboard tray gives out (if you are not ready to buy the plastic tray). I don't know yet. But I am totally on board with not scooping! My Littermaid lasted 5 months. I know it has the manufacture warranty and I will be calling them. If I get a new replacement I will just save it. Plus, that clumping litter is pretty heavy, so I don't know if that contributes to wearing out litter boxes. I will say that my older cats do like that type of litter box, hence the reason I'm going to give this one a try.

I have a 25 lb cat and a small 10 lb. I find that if you scoop the box every evening, you never smell a thing. The trick is clumping litter and being careful to not break up the urine piles. The litter lasts longer and the cats are happier! As far as busy people, I suppose an automated litter box would be ideal. I have never found these to work in my situation. I prefer to not sift the piles as these machines do, which break up urine and cause the odor problem.

I love my littermaid. Lots of user errors with their bad reviews. I paid $59 on Chewy. Had 2 territory pee-ers, no more. They all use it, 5 rescues, no problem. I use Tidy cat 4 in 1, lasts over a month. I can't stand smell nor mess, so this fits the bill! This box is amazing. I hacked it, so I use grocery bags, and a box below. I built a bench to hold the box, and covered it inside with flexseal rubber, so any "mess" can easily be cleaned. I check daily. Again, cannot stand messes or odor, but I love my animals 🐾❤️. Test your LB first, to figure out the correct depth, how it works, etc. That's what I did, then you won't have user error ❤️🐾. I'm thankful I don't have to use trays, I'd be poor 🥺

I have this self cleaning scoop away litter boxes for years. It works fine but it doesn't completely get rid of the odor even after it runs its cycle. I have to re-run the cycle myself after it cycles on its own the odor is still suffocating me in my room! I have to spray my room or add baking soda odor eliminator or burn some incense to mask the odor, the latter works best for me. I have 2 cats, maybe one of them has explosive feces but I noticed that the only time my room is "odor free" is a few days after I changed the litter cartridges which is every 15 days. Its a convenience vs. cleaning clumps of litter boxes daily, esp. if you're older and have bad knees/bad back and can't clean it up daily.

I also have two cats and it’s not much more than what I usually spend on litter a month. I typically spend $10-15 on litter each month. With this product, I bought the reusable plastic tray which is an initial investment but well worth it. In addition, I spend about $15 on the crystal litter each month with this product anyway so I’m not really spending a whole lot extra. I change the litter every two weeks with two cats, while going in and scooping out the solids with a regular scooper once a week.

Thank you so much for this video. I wasted my money on a Nature’s Miracle self-cleaning litter box and absolutely hate it. This one looks like a much better design. I have one question, for anyone out there with a cat like mine - she always pees in the same spot and the Nature’s Miracle rake doesn’t reach all the way to the bottom of the tray so it leaves a nasty mess behind. Does this one reach the bottom when the rake activates?

Id prefer to have a sifting system. It’s easier to clean, it’s a simple design, and it saves money on cat litter. I have had the scoopfree litter box for 6-7 months (idk if u have a different model but ours doesn’t have the purple cover) and although u don’t have to touch it for a week straight and change the litter tray Id rather have a normal litter box. My cats (I have 2) are messy so having to sweep all of the litter on the floor everytime I had to clean it added to the process. I didn’t know the crystals would fall in small crevices on the machine and the poop falling behind the scooper so i would spend a good 15-20 minutes cleaning the machine its self. And since we have hard wood floors, the crystals would get stuck in the cracks of the wood and I would always have to pry them out with something. The easiest thing to do out of everything was switch the trays, I know that none of this is hard to do and I might sound lazy but I didn’t like how long it took me to do everything altogether. We switched to a normal litter box cuz the litter trays were too expensive but I’d much rather take 15 minutes to scoop litter than take almost 40 minutes to clean an entire room (not over exaggeration.) This litter box may be ideal for some people and may even help people with disabilities (maybe?) but it just didn’t workout for me.

Multiple cats 4 - $ Solution 1. Buy a 30 pound Cristal Cat litter 2. Clean the poop area every 2-3 days 3. Change the cristal litter every 5-7 days. KEEP the box usually last about a month (4-5) change of litter.

I have littermaid and was using clumping litter. My issue is that the waste bin needs to be emptied every other day and it is literally like still scooping everyday. So i have experimented with the walmart’s vibrant life unscented mini crystal litter. Yup! Used it with my littermaid to experiment. I have two cats. And it works great and dries up poop and no sticking issues at all. On 6th day and still no urine/poop smell. The litter is $4.99 per bag (4lbs).

You can get a reusable tray for these systems for $50, and then you can get a pack of 2 of the crystal litter for about $16. So you could cut your costs to just under $200 a year on litter after paying for the litter box and the reusable tray. Much more affordable than buying the one use trays

I have three cats (had no intention of having ANY pets, but well, I guess my compassion got the better of me) and they poop up a storm. The boxes (I have two, I need two) have to be scooped daily. The whole litter has to be changed out every couple of weeks at a cost of about $40. Despite all this, there is still a smell. The thing that bothers me is the daily scooping. Doesn't take long, maybe three minutes to five minutes, but it's a pain and stirs up dust despite the litter being the most dust-free litter I can find. I'm considering an "automatic" litter box to basically keep it cleaner than I can. I'm already spending $40-$80 on litter a month (depending on deals) plus 2-3 hours a month scooping and dumping the litter.

I've tried practically every litter option available to me and the cheap stuff literally leaves a fine layer of dust over my entire house. Currently, I am spending about $23 a month testing this new litter which works so well it looks like I can get away with about $23-$25 a month depending on price.

They make a plastic tray you can use instead of the disposable ones. The only thing you need to buy is the Crystal litter and of course you’ll have to clean the plastic tray before replacing the litter. In the long run it’s totally cost effective. It’s like having a regular litter box and having to just clean it and replacing the litter.

Ok, but what are the refills? Their own brand of crystals? Why not just use whatever brand of crystals I want, in order to save money? And does the motor have no problems, binding up, burning out, etc?

You could probably go the cheaper route if you get a plastic tray that's compatible and some alternative litter. I'm an Amazon prime member and I simply order this every 2 months or so : amzn.to/2MSYkba For me this litter box has been a God send. I hated cleaning the cat litter box every other day and dealing with the messy, smelly clay cat litter. The motor works fine, the only problem I get comes from my cat every now and then pilling the litter into a high spot which blocks the proximity sensor of the litter box. When that happens the led light fast blinks and I have to shake the litter box to flatten the litter out and then the rake activates.

i bought this for my kittens a few days ago. and this litter box is a complete joke. i can smell the poop worse than a regular litter box with regular cat litter. wastes $150 for nothing.

TAs much as that machine looks good at the same time it's a waste of money you're better off getting the cat bot why you don't literally have to do anything and is cost-effective because you don't have to put expensive litter in there and it's closest now Everton better investment more money less expenditure it's a 1 time luxury cat toilet that you'll never have to purchase of them how much will save you lots of money over the years I think it that way I like this product but it's a waste of time and if the author of this video is there any enough money like he says he has all these businesses taking care of I will say invest in the cat bot and you won't have this problem whatsoever job done well CAT BOT

call me old school but i dont believe in a machine to do the litterbox duty i feel its just plum lazy it dont take but a few mins of ur time to clean it by hand. i have 2 cats and 2 litter boxes i clean on a daily basis and its not that hard.

felicia felicity I have an autoimmune disease and a bad back and am not lazy and don’t feel people should be criticized for making a choice for their own life. Some Busy people who love having their cat would rather spend the added costs because it suits them and their lifestyle because they are not lazy. A very broad assumption, taking the time out of your day to watch the video and criticize people who use it could have been spent doing something constructive not destructive. Not everyone is able to do the things others take for granted.

I have 4 cats and it's very good. You can lower the cost buying cristal car litter and change the litter and dont trash the carton box.

Well all I can tell you is that this litterbox has improved my life a quite a bit. If you enjoy changing your cats litter everyday, this ain't for you. If you want something that frees up time and reduces the hassle of having a cat, this is for you! I don't get paid to say this, I simply like the product.
