@@nectanbo while that might be a pure viewpoint, it's also one (as Jeremy Corbyn discovered) that leads to electoral defeat. It's hard to implement policies to help workers from the opposition benches. I'd personally argue that it's equally if not more repulsive to sacrifice the chance to do some good on the altar of ideological purity.

@@Notreallyoverit I feel like there must be a middle ground at least. Refusing to back strikers, not committing to common sense measures such as nationalising water, while condoning International geonoicide and purging your party of socialists . This is all very reprehensible and unnecessary stuff do you not think?

@@nectanboit's necessary to listen to the room. That room is not filled with people such as yourself, but with swing voters. Policies that may make perfect sense to someone with a left wing mindset can be kryptonite to them. Be careful of placing too much faith in what you hear and read in your echo chamber. I don't mean that perjoratively, it's just a risk we all have to be aware of in this modern social media driven world.

It's opportunistic. They'll win either way and in seeing that, Starmer is turning Labour from our Labour Party into his IDF Party.

Not voting because of how "our people " have been treated. If a person is so removed from British culture that they cannot even vote as part of it then maybe they should take "their people" and go and live where " their culture is ". Otherwise cut out the identity politics .

I like how this program gets a lot of politicians who aren't running for seats rather than people who are currently campaigning, it seems like the guests you have are more likely to speak their mind than people who will just tow the party line, Krishnan does a good job of moderating it in a sensible way, enough so that the guests will open up but not so much that they will shut down and fall back on their parties talking points. Hope Channel 4 keep producing this after the election, it's an interesting listen.

l actually really enjoyed the conversation and appreciated his candour. However Rory called out his blind spot around virtue in public office which is how he could be rather cavalier about some of the real financial hardship he and Truss caused. He's intellect has disengaged him from the struggle to the point that he can cheerfully accommodate the right wing ideals that his father presumably would have been against. He's great person to have a conversation with capable and intelligent but sadly seems to think empathy and compassion are irrelevant. He isn't alone in that and hopefully this can be addressed in future polititians.

Regarding university courses; every year, the right wing press claims there are degree courses in obscure subjects that appear niche interests. The reality, when you strip away the lies, are that the seemingly odd subject is one module within normal courses on everyday subjects. Nobody takes 'a degree in golf'. They take an MBa in Business Studies, and chose a golf club they knew, to use as an example business. Nobody takes 'a degree in pinball'; they did Electrical Engineering, and to prove their skill, they built pinball tables. They may have collaborated with a student of Marketing, who could show their research into risk-reward pricing methods to set the optimal scoring strategy to ensure maximum repeat customers. But you'd never know that from the bile that drips from the Mail and Express.
