G'day Dr Novak. The planted tank is a 55 gallon. When fully stocked the nitrates were twice as high as in this video even with weekly water changes. The plants are mostly slow growers such as Java fern, Anubias and Amazon sword, with pothos and Syngonium growing out of the top. This BCB experiment has been a real eye opener for me, considering that I was skeptical to begin with. Thanks for your input mate.

I don’t keep any “sensitive” fish species. I keep my heavily planted aquariums at 25 - 50ppm nitrates and have for decades. I just setup my first under gravel filter planted aquarium in 40 years. TBD how the nitrate levels go. Thanks for the video recommendation

Hi! Just discovered your channel! Love it :) I ve had goldfish for years and some ponds. I bought a 60 gal breeder tank with glasstops. A year old now, Fluval 407, 1 sponge filter, 2 aeration stones for 4 small fancy goldfish around 2-3 inches. I have pothos and philo growing wildly, no other plants. Specs are A+, change water every 1-2 weeks… my tap water PH 7.0 but I have one problem… my tank’s Ph hover always around 6-6.4 and sometimes below 6 😱cannot get it up😢 I have 5 other tanks Ph always good around 6.8-7.2. Can you help?

The way i like my aquaria, very densely planted , lightly stocked, i find myself adding nitrates not reducing them.

I check the nitrite levels in all 6 of my aquariums And to my surprise my American 65g did not need a water change (There was no Color on the strip ) So 👍👍:)

Yes, it is, in the sense that it can be used to replace cat litter.

@@anoxicfiltrationplenums wow....Dr Kevin Novak replied me.... yes, It looks like I have to replace the catlitter with another ( zeolite), because i cannot find the catlitter with " no clump ". they just sell the "easy to clumping catlitter" so i looking an alternative material, the google says "the zeolit has very strong ion exchange and adsorption properties and also has stable pore and channel input sizes. The ability of cations to diffuse into the nano-sized pores of the zeolite structure provides the possibility of high ionic conductivity. and i,m not fluently in english....sorry if not good spelling... and thank you very much for the all information about anoxic filter....I hope you are always healthy and happy.

Hi Dr Novak, I made some baskets for my pond return and planted them up a few years back. Now in the UK it is very difficult to get the correct Cat litter. Do you think a full basket of Seachem fluorite red would work OK?

Can I ask which filter pads you use in the ADA ES2400 (would love amazon link :-)? Also I'm about to order a 385 gallon tank from Custom Aquariums. It will be pretty heavily planted with a medium fish load. Will set up with plenum. Do you think one ES2400 will be sufficient or will I need more? I'm guessing I'll need more, but don't want to spend money unnecessarily. I will be injecting CO2 so I'm trying to stay away from a sump due to the off gassing.

I've been watching your videos about anoxic filters, and dying to try it. But the problem is, I couldn't find any non-scented and non-clumping kitty litter at my place~ even in online shop. What I've been trying to ask, is the scented and clumping kitty litter okay to use and safe for the fish? and especially goldfish? Or can I use clay based alternative materials like crushed clay based bricks, rooftile, pottery, ceramic, etc? Thank you!

Unfortunately, you cannot you sent it or clumping kitty litter it will not work. But you could try products such as oil dry or safety Zorb that you can find a tractor supply houses.

@@anoxicfiltrationplenums Thank you Dr. Novak for the response! Unfortunately, I also couldn't find oil dry and Zorb, perhaps it is under different names here. But I've watched you other video saying that any substrates will do, although kitty litter give a decent bonus. And I found hydroton or clay pebbles which is planting medium often used in hydroponic farming, so I will try using it. The drawbacks is that they cost much more than kitty litter. 😅
