Great topic. I had a LMB in a 55 gal tank for 7 years. First thing I did in the morning was note where she was in the tank. High pressure she would be on the bottom. Very listless. Low pressure she would be up and roaming Backs up your observations Next topic...Moon phases!!!

I'm a firm believer barometric pressure affects the fish. Old school story, my grandpa told when I was a kid, "The cattle will tell you what the bass are doing.in the Spring and Fall" If they are active and roaming the pasture (low pressure) the bass will be actively feeding. If the cattle are laying down, tight to the tree line (High pressure) the bass will be tight to cover and lethargic. I remembered that just last week, and made a point to check a pasture as I drove by. Cold front moving in, they were roaming the pasture, I caught bass on a buzzbait and crankbait. Few days after the storm, they were all tight up to the tree line. I caught bass on a brushhawg and a jig fishing tight to cover. Good video Matt.

There may be a weather correlation, but the total range of atmospheric pressure from a low to a high is about 2 pounds per square inch. That's equal to changing water depth by about one foot. Usually day to day change would only be a couple of inches. In other words, a fish only has to swim a couple inches higher or lower in the water column to feel the pressure it felt the previous day.

Matt, my wife won’t let me use that excuse for chores. I agree with you about the pressure. One of my old techniques is the Carolina rig. This time of year here the oxblood color works well. I actually like this time of year. We don’t have as much boat traffic and it makes for a great day on the water. You have a great challenge, Thank You

Great video Matt! Pressure definitely affects the fish because they have an air bladder. Of course we don't, but can also feel the changes in pressure in our own bodies. Having them react to a bait where they're not necessarily eating out of hunger can also put a few more fish in the boat. If you saw a mosquito across the room, you'd probably keep on walking. If it gets in your face unexpectedly, then you'd react

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on how barometric pressure may affect fishing and I agree with you especially about relating to days when I do not feel so great. There are times when I am watching football on TV and only feel like eating a couple of pieces of Bridgford beef jerky and other times when I could eat the entire bag. I am not sure if it is related to barometric pressure or my home team winning or losing. I do follow solunar tables and barometric pressure. There are always going to be exceptions but over time I have experienced better fishing using these indicators.

I definitely know ever since I messed up my back and then my back surgery failed, I can tell when bad weather is coming, my migraines are worse and I can feel the hardware in my back agitating the nerves around it without even doing anything, so I believe they can feel these changes and have a negative reaction to them 100%

Excellent topic today. I have often wondered what the real relationship between barometric pressure and the mood of the fish is. What are your thoughts on things like the Solunar tables and moon phases and how accurately they predict fish behavior?

Thought everybody knew this. This was a topic in introductory Bass Fishing at College. (Not) However, the link between the barometer and the mood, energy level or aggressiveness of the fish is undeniable. Our pressure in SE Alabama has gone up significantly since last week. For the last two days I’ve felt like a potato. Thanks Matt.

Fish do not feel changes to air pressure. They are in a liquid that is not compressible. In fact, they will experience pressure greater than the highest recorded air pressure by moving just 3 feet down. What does affect them is light conditions and how they use those for creating edges and advantages for feeding. Low light allows fish to move around and feed while having an advantage over prey. Bright light could mean that fish stay close to edges because prey can see better. So, you're close, but fish don't feel air pressure.
@MattStefanFishing Жыл бұрын
they may not feel it directly but i 100% believe they make changes based on pressure movement
@metal1971 Жыл бұрын
@Matt Stefan Fishing they don't feel pressure changes but pressure changes can bring clouds and wind that does change the amount of light penetration into the water and that does change their behaviors.

This is truly a great subject i have mixed emotions on this one & was wondering if this is the same as the moon phase, got burned this summer, planned a fishing trip based on bassmaster magazine said it was the best week of the month for bass fishing & I don't pay attention to it anymore, but I like your thoughts on biometric pressure!

Interesting. I’ve heard & read conflicting theories on the effects of barometric pressure’s on bass behavior. Your thoughts seem logical to me anyway. I’ve found the bite to be better in prefrontal conditions as pressure starts dropping. They definitely seem less active in high pressure. As others here have said, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the moon phases. I’ve read conflicting theories on that topic too. Be interested in your take on it as a pro. Thanks 👍🏼🎣🌙
