I think cancel culture only works if the person being canceled lacks the fortitude to ride out the wave of hate. Once the cracks appear, social media can be relentless. But if someone is hardly phased, people will get bored and move on.

Cancel culture doesn’t work most of the time. It has the intent of ruining the life of someone behind it, sometimes for completely unhinged, sometimes for good reasons. It only works if the targeted person either did something so inexcusable that every platform bans him/her permanently, or the targeted person gives up on creating content because of the harassment. But if those two don’t happen, its not working. Sure there are examples where people start calling the employer of a person and that person gets fired for no good reason, but that’s VERY rare and that person probably just got away from a toxic work environment anyway if someone is willing to fire him/her that easily. Doc is a good example that he can just point at the law, and big platforms don’t care about what’s morally right, just about what’s legal or not, so he gets away with it, ignores the harassment and still hundreds of thousands people watch him.

Agreed. That one VA that got fired and replaced in Genshin Impact because he got caught grooming (Tighnari's old VA, if anyone's curious)? Yeah, he got dropped like a hot potato - he's not coming back anytime soon (fun fact: HoYo's official statement was that his firing was a "breach of contract"). Too bad he turned out to be such a scumbag. I thought he was funny. But for every story like him, there are maybe 7 more where the "cancelled" person disappears for a few months, then does a "comeback tour" using said cancellation as a jump-off point and they get a new lease on life. So, like... now what?

As anything on the internet, it started as a great idea to bring accountability to influential and powerful people, to at the very least point out heinous shit they did and would get away with it because of their influence and power. Now, it doesn't do much and anything, any dumb shit can get you "cancelled" online.

Now there are even people trying to get "cancelled" because it's just free publicity. Most people outside these bubble universes couldn't care less about their personal little drama club, but they might notice when things blow up, and if they handle it right then they can easily capitalize on it.

you can only he cancelled if you’re one of two things. 1.) poor 2.) apologize and let the mob get to you i say poor because if it hurts you main money maker then you’ll have to do something and not just leave and eventually come back after months of missing that money. this usually leads into someone being desperate and apologizing to try to get back sooner.

Some people are psychopaths or sociopaths, and some of them tend to be set on what they're going to do. They really cannot be rehabilitated or anything. Sadly ways to identify people who are set on being malicious and also know how to act/pretend like a normal person in public, are more or less non-existent. And of course there are the simps, who are horny for certain people, even if their target of affection is a destructive monster of a human...

Cancelling, to my understanding, only fully takes effect, when enough of your ride or die fan base turns on you. Don't matter how heinous what you did is, if the ride or dies stick around, you can come back from anything

It mostly comes down to the platform/platforms the cancelled person is on. It was briefly mentioned in the Bunny/Bahroo video when Bunny (iirc) compared Layna to Arcadum, what Arcadum did *(to OVER 20 WOMEN)* is atrocious but Twitch didn't ban him. He lost like 95% of his viewership and audience, but he still has his platform where he can (potentially) keep doing that shit. Cancelling was and is about bringing attention to questionable, if not outright fucked up, behaviour. Bringing attention to their audience or whatever, to the wider public, and to the platforms. The audience can leave, the wider public knows and judges, but it's a wild 50/50 if a platform will step and do anything. And when the platforms don't they just start gaining their audience again.

If I’m looking at it for a completely unbiased perspective on viewers. It’s a gamble. If their target audience doesn’t have ANYONE else to fit the build, then the “fans” stay. But the second someone else comes along that’s newer, better AND not an a-hole then they leave real quick. Example, Disney fans, millions of Disney fans, didn’t go see the Lion King Mufasa movie and instead went to see Sonic. Why? Because it’s literally targeting the same demographic but it’s better. At the end of the day the only thing keeping these people afloat is the limited options. Since VTubers are becoming more popular it opens up the possibility for more options. That’s why a bunch of VTubers that are a-holes get dropped left and right, ppl don’t have time for that when there’s better options.

If you don't like some ones brand, feel free to not watch their content. If they did something scummy, you can talk about it, no problem. The issue I have is when someone is accused of actual crimes, and instead of facing charges, face cancellation. Imagine if a big YT star was accused of multiple MURDERS, and people were like "oh hey guys, we took away their KZbin channel! We achieved justice, yay"! I don't think cancellation should be thought of as justice because it isn't. Cancellation is a consequence of ones actions. Actual justice is punishment for ones crimes, regardless of your social media presence.

"cancelling" was just the name given to boycotting in 2017. People act like it is some new thing when there is plenty of information about the effectiveness of boycotting out there. It almost always fades with time and it is almost always ineffective if the target of the boycott has a strong loyal fan base.

For reference I nearly lost my case against my ex because I posted her messages to her boy toy while we were together. The messages were inadmissible in the litigation because I posted them

Hi Hex, I'm new to the community but I wanted to put my sense into cosplay copying. Cosplayers create a cosplay of an already existing character. There are different lvls of cosplay. Some cosplayers build a lot of their parts or entire cos and put unique spins on the rather overplayed cosplay. There's actually a youtuber that made a really good Seth Night Ro from Trinity Blood cosplay, I believe, and another cosplayer bought the cosplay [for cheaper than it costed to craft it] and entered it into a Cosplay competition claiming it as their own. They got caught and called out for it. Stealing a cosplay and claiming it as your own is the problem. If you recreat the unique cosplay and use it, giving credit to another cosplayer is good. But if you copy every detail and dont credit, that's stealing the work of another and copying it. Also, the true creator of the Seth Night Ro Cosplay is- LinaliaVII
