We’ve reviewed Korean convenience store food on our main channel before, and we thought it was long overdue that we did one in the UK! Is British convenience store food as notorious as its own cuisine?! Watch till the end to find out! :)

For everyone complaining about the 'negativity toward Britain', how much of their content have you actually watched? They've done reviews on the best places to get amazing burgers in England, tasted British made Indian food because it's immensely popular there, and done a great traditional fish and chips review and talked a lot about British culture with that. They did a review of different chicken places there also, unfortunately most of them just were not good. Also their videos are laced with decidedly British humor which can come off as harsh and critical to those not used to it. There are positive and negative reviews in every video that they do. Understand marketing, folks. They're not bashing Britain. It's just that a title like 'Does xxxxxx have the WORST xxxxxxx?" will get more clicks than "Trying xxxxxxx food".

Agree. I've been watching Jolly, English Koreanman and Gabie's video. Josh and Ollie is just being honest with their feeling and opinion. Tasty food in Britain is not as accessible as other Asia country, not to mention convenient store food. In fact I appreciate their honest opinion and that makes their content worth watching.

Erm did you even watch the videos you referred to? They slated the UK in those videos (Indian food is popular because our food is horrible, they both hate fish and chips). It's the constant UK bashing that gets tiresome, they can never just say that [Korean food] tastes nice, it always has to come with "it so much better than the UK, which is horrible", even with things which everyone in Korea knows isn't true eg Korean beer is piss compared to UK beer, Korean bread is a disgusting sweet brioche-cake mess compared to the UK, Korean chocolate takes like disgusting chalky American chocolate compared to the UK etc. In the naengmyeon video Ollie clearly hates it and doesn't take more than one bite but says he loves it - even the Korean comments call him out saying the bowl is still full at the end of the video and that he should just have been honest. Plus the straight up lies like in the Korean street food video they say eat a battered sausage and say "we don't have anything like that in England" but every chip shop in the country sells them. In the 'Joel learns drinking etiquette video' Josh drops the bomb that we "don't respect the idea of family in the UK" - such bullshit, and many people in the comments called him out for it. Many of their videos are skewered by the fact that Josh spent most of his childhood in an American International school (not the UK) and Ollie and his extended family (Chris, Jennie etc) are all very posh and don't represent 90% of people in the UK.
@nicwin4006
@nicwin4006 5 жыл бұрын
@@sophiebeaumont9608 so what exactly is your point? lol. If they think that their food is horrible, and that's why their Indian food is better - it's their prerogative. Also, they're not required to like fish and chips just because they live in the UK. Just because they're British doesn't mean they're required to be British ambassadors. They are not required to like everything the UK has to offer - if they think Korean food is better, they'll say so, and having an opinion isn't wrong. In the vids that I've seen they always have disclaimers that - guys the uk is great, I'm sure you'll like it but... etc, etc, etc, or if you come to the UK make sure you etc, etc, etc,... IMO, they're being honest which is what I look for in a youtube channel. They're just trying different things and giving their opinion, with a title that will garner views which is good business sense. If you don't like the fact that these British guys don't LOVE EVERYTHING about England, I mean, watch an English tourism add I guess lol.

@@nicwin4006 What's my point? Can't you read? I just corrected your mistakes, you tried to claim there wasn't much 'negativity about the UK' now you're trying to change your argument in to 'it's ok to be negative' (completely contradicting everything you wrote in your original comment by the way.) They're not being honest, they're cherry picking, there are no 'disclaimers' as you claim in any of the videos - you've completely made that up (if you can link to ONE VIDEO like that I'll paypal you £100). Again you tried the strawman that "they don't have to like everything in the UK" - no one claimed that they did. I made it very clear with specific examples from videos about their dishonesty.

This vid isn't a fair or accurate representation of our average local shops. My local butcher makes amazing pies, the local 'convenience store' (we never call them that, they're 'corner shops') has home made sandwiches that are amazing, locally sourced organic foods. It also has samosas, bhaji's, fresh salads, savoury rices + pastas, all with excellent use of fresh herbs and spices. Just because it's on Jolly, doesn't mean it's true for all of the UK. These are two posh kids performing for the camera, they are definitely not typical Brits, far from it. They are certainly snobs.

@lewilewis3944
@lewilewis3944 4 жыл бұрын
@@lain7893 Okay Leilana, I'll type this slowly so that you can keep up. There is a common misconception that British food is bland and doesn't use any spices. This idea comes from the time we were under siege and food was strictly rationed in WW2. It's a cliche that people say in order to look clever, but actually proves the opposite. It just proves that they've never been here. There has been a strong British/Indian fusion of food for decades. There are even curries that only exist in Britain. Chicken Tikka Massala was invented in Glasgow, Scotland and is now the UK's favourite meal, it comes at the top of every poll. Samosa's are one of the UK's favourite snacks and can be found in most corner shops (convenience stores). They are not flown over from India, we make them here, so why aren't they British if the ones made here are a fusion of British/Indian? Indian spices, British vegetables. Considering our high farming standards and quality of produce I'm proud that Samosas now use British veg, who wouldn't be? Onion Bhaji's also use a British variety of onion. When did I say that our food is the same as Korean when it's clearly not? This vid was definitely not a clear representation of UK food, but was made by a pair of posh kids showing off to their Korean fans. I've since un-subbed from their channel as they really are an annoying pair more worried about Korean likes than a fair representation of their own country. Why do you thank fuck that samosa's are not British? Are you a racist? You should be proud of our heritage, our links to India are part of that, it should make you proud.

I think we suck at "convenience store food" so badly because we never really had it. We have the land available to build full size supermarkets and our "corner shops" are usually locally run and can't afford to continually buy lots of fresh pre-made food. There just hasn't been the market demand to develop the same styles of products as Asia. But, we've all grown up ok with what we had, and the UK does have an excellent selection of sweets.

@@BMeiome13 I'm not saying he is. I'm illustrating why occasional unhealthy eating for entertainment or competition purposes does not preclude being a 'health freak'. If you've been watching these guys as long I have, you'll know that mention of the healthiness, the potential health impact of the food being consumed, mention of Ollie hitting up the gym, etc. are commonplace. If you're part of the English Middle Class you'll be well aware that health/fitness is a common obsession and has been for at least a decade. Finally, if you're a member of the Church of England, you'll be well aware of how fitness and health are pushed with the body is a temple thing. Combine all that and Ollie's near obsessive mention of the health consequence of food and you get a pretty safe bet, he's into his health/fitness. Hell, pretty sure he even said in conversation with Dan Juno coming along has made him hyperconscious of such things. Anyway, why has this claim got you in such a tizz? Are you non-English? Because if you are, you need you know Health Freak is a playful title and not actually insulting.

Piece of bread is generally composed of starch molecules. After chewing it for a while, the enzymes in the mouth start to attack the starch molecules which is converted into glucose. This is why sugar goes so well with bread.

when they ate the iced Buns all I could remember was when I was in school year 8 and I played a lady called Peggy. I was A maid for a house hold called Manoshums, and I died of a poison which smells like Almonds and I Had to eat The Iced Bun, pretending that it had the Poison in it
@carbon1255

That is because Almonds have cyanide in them. So do apple cores/seeds and a few other plants. You don't want to eat bitter almonds you can get sick after a few. Cyanide either kills you or doesn't though, so a mild dose is very safe, if you do get the twitch and vertigo and so on.

Those are my feels about convenience store nachos here in the U.S.; the tortilla chips are the only fairly "natural" element of those nachos, but damn do they taste good. I had to stop eating them for a long time after getting my gallbladder out, but even now I'll usually get them about once a year. That, a Slushie, and an Otis Spunkmeyer banana nut muffin = perhaps my favorite trash meal ever.

In regards to the 100% chicken breast for fridge raiders it explains on the packet - they use 100% chicken breast but they also add seasonings to it to give it flavour, therefore what makes up the 100% nugget isn’t just chicken, it’s other stuff so they have to counter in % of other ingredients. Edit: also as watching this video I was eating the egg and spinach pot aND the pickled onion monster munch lmao 😂💀💀

I love banana Yazoo, "fun fact" artificial banana flavouring is copied from a variety of banana that went extinct about 50 years ago, so it does taste like banana, just not one any of us have had. Ireland also has Monster Munch but for some reason they changed the name to Mighty Munch (possibly a copyright issue), the flavour is different, I prefer ours.
