He made bad movie role choices, had poor management, and behaved as if life was a lark and would always remain that way. I gather that he now sees the error of his ways. At least he is honest and still has a great sense of humor about himself. He has looked physically frail for at least 10 years. But he’s still standing and appears to have all of his marbles.
@WilliamsDad19896 жыл бұрын
Burt's actually always been quite humble about who he was. Look back at some of his 70's and 80's interviews. No one was more deprecating about Burt than Burt was. Watch some of the Johnny Carson ones. Carson constantly mocked Burt and made fun of him. And of course, Burt took it graciously. They were great friends. And as for his frailness, really the last 6 or 7 years. That's when he had heart surgery and things really started taking their toll on him from that point. Never really recovered.

He was a guy from South Florida who had to start over several times. His football career ended because of an injury, when he was 19 or 20. I think he just always figured he could start over again. I have a certain fondness for him, because he was a fellow FSU alumnus, who never waived in his devotion to our school, and he was always, unapologetically himself.

I could definitely see Burt doing the Jack Nicholson part in Terms of endearment.
@coldwinter57106 жыл бұрын
The part was actually written specifically with him in mind! The same writer he worked with in Starting Over. What the hell was he thinking turning it down?! OMG! He had terrible people working on his behalf. He would've been even better than Jack, and Jack was fabulous. Such a bummer!

He would've been a PERFECT James Bond! Even better than Roger Moore and Roger Moore was great! But Burt...ohhh! So much sexier and agile. Damn! You watch him in the movie Rough Cut and you will see exactly why they asked him and why he should've said yes. A decade of Bond movies with Burt would've been pure theatre bliss. What a loss for him and us...😫

I still see Burt’s good looks even though he’s been sick with different surgeries! I still would rather seem him than Marlon Brando ! Burt was a real mans man with a great sense of humor! Burt is still the man ! I felt like the guy interviewing him was kinda throwing digs at him. Oh well he was probably jealous of Burt too .... most men would be jealous!

I'm sure Burt would have played those parts well, but I'm glad he didn't get them because the actors that did get them were perfect for those roles.

He turned down for the "original James Bond"? Doesn't make sense, he was never considered as Bond in 1961, he wasn't even a well known actor then. Andy is referring to around 1970 when director Guy Hamilton wanted Reynolds for Bond in Diamonds Are Forever. Reynolds was never formally offered the role of Bond but said he could never play it because he could not top Sean Connery.
@kendralucas98096 жыл бұрын

@wheelmanstan5 жыл бұрын
hard to imagine an American playing bond, but Burt could have done well I'm sure as long as they let him embrace that thing us Americans have, that bravado haha, if they made him tone it down it wouldn't have worked, imagine having the characters make it clear that he's the new replacement American agent and they're a little annoyed with his way of doing things would have added good humor to the film/s

He turned down those parts and he did Smokey and the Bandit and Cannonball Run? Pretty Woman would have been perfect for him. But glad he was not in Cuckoo's Nest or Terms of Endearment. He could not have done what Nicholson did.
@seanjoyce70392 жыл бұрын
Agree about CUCKOO'S NEST, disagree about ENDEARMENT...that role literally was written for him and I think he would have killed it. Gere got PRETTY WOMAN after Reynolds turned it down just like he got AMERICAN GIGOLO when Travolta passed on it.

I think he could of handled the role of Michael. Personally, I don't think Pacino brought a lot to it. Any scene he and Cazales are in together, Cazales owned the scene. Just like in Dog Day Afternoon.
