Correction. The song that was used for the first usage of gated reverb was "Intruder" on Peter Gabriel's 3rd solo album. Phil Collins was playing drums on the track and was also the drummer for Genesis. Peter Gabriel was never the drummer for Genesis.

Oh my god!!! I can't believe Chris won all that money!! This episode was super fun! His reactions while waiting for the result to be announced were hilarious, and the shot effect when the lights went red cracked me up! Great episode!

I have a feeling you meant to put drummer of genesis Phil Collins as the answer rather than Peter Gabriel lead vocalist for genesis. Either way I understood who you meant and otherwise amzazing video, Good Job.

Okay I’m not going insane. Phil Collins is the drummer and he’s the one that sang in the air tonight… still hit the answer right but wrong Genesis member. Chris knew Peter singing Sledgehammer. Joey got them screwed up.

I love the look on Joey's face when he realised he meant Phil Collins instead of Peter Gabriel 😅 Can't wait to see the gloating from Chris on the next wacky weekend!

I got the “akira” question right purely off art style recognition. Didn’t know the guys name but I just compared the facial art style to akira and it seemed really close . My weeb card has been renewed for another year lol

I love this type of content for you, Joey, you really excel at this. However, I think it was Phil Collins moreso than Peter Gabriel who should be credited for the gated reverb though. They were bandmates in Genesis, where Phil Collins was the drummer. But it was 'In the air tonight' as a solo artist that Phil Collins really introduced and popularized the technique. He also did a lot of the drumming tracks for Peter Gabriel's songs, particularly Intruder, which also features it.

As someone who lived through the 80s, I knew the answer right away. Gated reverb "was developed in 1979 by engineer Hugh Padgham and producer Steve Lillywhite while working with the artists XTC, Peter Gabriel, and Phil Collins at Townhouse Studios in London, and is most famously demonstrated in Collins' hit song "In the Air Tonight" (1981)." Oh and BTW, in 1979, Phil Collins was the drummer/singer for Genesis, not Peter Gabriel who had left and was working solo.

My family thinks I’m crazy because of my memory. I remember times dates and order of conversations from when I was 4-5 years old and then I can use those specific memories to infer about larger points or conversation topics, and it always freaks them out lmao . But really in most situations it’s more of a party trick then anything else. Although it did help in college a bit since I was a stem major

The gated reverb first discovery was while recording the "Melt" album. And Peter wrote Intruder which used that effect. And after that it was later used in In The Air Tonight.
