Each of our individual consciousnesses are so fractured. We don’t even know what it’s like to have a “fully functioning” or unbroken awareness. There are rare cases of people having perfect memory recall though (like that actress from Taxi), but that doesn’t mean their conscious awareness isn’t fractured in other ways

According to Hindus, consciousness is reflective. Our external world is perceived by our senses, and the information is reflected in our consciousness. This means that the external is not real, the mirror of our consciousness is only real. Our minds are also reflected in this consciousness, and our bodies. It is like a face in the mirror, the face is not real, it is a reflection. Consciousness itself is pure, but gets contracted by names and forms which we perceive as 'reality'. They say this is true in relative sense, but in absolute sense only the pure consciousness is real.

The universe evolves into a state where living beings (for example, with brains) appear that fulfill the condition for the emergent quality of consciousness in those beings to appear. They may then ask: what is all this? And, to what purpose? Well, they can learn more and more what it is, if they may survive collectively. And, they can subscribe to what purpose, while they are alive individually.

Sue Blackmore made a name for herself trying to prove that consciousness is a byproduct of neuronal activity ( epiphenomenalism). This is an easy, almost lazy position to take, from the point of view of traditional science which is materialist reductionist. Large amounts of evidence from different fields are pointing to a non material reality as the reality underlying material reality. That's becoming more evident even if not clear ( in the sense that we understand it). Consider advances in the philosophy of science today - monistic idealism as in Kastrup or Goswami or Hoffman or Sheldrake. Fiercely contested, of course, by traditionalists as you would expect including widespread ad hominem attacks without attention to the fine points of the ongoing debate about the nature of Deep Reality. All this unreasonableness and lack of respectful debate is to be expected as one paradigm starts to die angrily, giving way to a better paradigm, slowly and painfully.

I personally think Paul Davies made the most sense - even if he does not give an exact label to the school of thought of which his views comprise. The idea of cosmic consciousness is interesting, it's kind of like the thought of "does reality exist without an observer?", which does seem straightforward (yes, of course it does) but what evidence can you have of its existence if there is nobody present to observe it?

@detached
@detached 3 жыл бұрын
I agree. That was Ayn Rand's conclusion. In this view, consciousness is defined as a process. Causation/interaction itself is an act of "observation". This is born out in the quantum where particles are essentially undefined unless some interaction takes place. This solves the hard problem of consciousness by making consciousness (rudimentary causal "awareness") a fundamental principle of reality. Human consciousness would be something like recursive causation. It's simply what happens when enough microscopic causal agents are arranged in the right way. The same basic pattern of action/reaction is present in atoms all the way up to humans.

VV Raman is echoing one of the interpretations of the thought contained in the Vedanta philosophy which seems to point at a kind of absolute monism where consciousness is all that exists. Even matter is only consciousness in this view; and no, there is no God in the sense of a supreme conscious personality, only a (personality-less) consciousness that is devoid of all attributes. This view which is often presented as the dominant Hindu view regarding reality I consider to be a misinterpretation. In reality, Hindu philosophy, the best glimpse of which is obtained in texts such as the Bhagavad Gita, talks about two ontological categories with essential characteristics that are mutually exclusive : 1. Prakrti (primordial matter): unconscious, dead substance. 2. Purusa (conscious personality). The distinction between these two entities is fundamental and persists eternally. God is the supreme purusa, the supremely conscious pure personality that brings prakrti and purusa together. Therefore, once the investigator discovers matter and once he discovers (individual) consciousness within the material body, then the existence of God is inferred, as the supreme principle that binds together these two entities.

We think, therefore god ? That once you reach a certain level of awareness. It's bingo there must be a god. And not just any god. It must their version. The universe is creating temporary order out of the chaos. But that will pass. The universe is on its own path. Separate from us. Even universal consciousness doesn't make any sense. Creating more gaps to stuff a god into, but no answers that say a god is there at all.
@Arunava_Gupta
@Arunava_Gupta 3 жыл бұрын
@@thomasridley8675 I didn't say that ("we think, therefore God"). Mere thinking does not do it. It is the bringing together of two disparate entities of purusa (conscious personality) and prakrti (unconscious matter) in the microcosmic context, the sophisticated inter-wiring of the (transcendental) mind of the conscious personality with the (material) brain (mind-organ).

I think Hindu tradition makes distinction between two levels of thinking; one is way of elite thinkers (represented in upanishads which talk about an impersonal cosmic mind that can be known through meditation)....and the other of ordinary public (represented in Gita and other scriptures that shapes all the personal deity worship/ritual stuff).
@Arunava_Gupta
@Arunava_Gupta 3 жыл бұрын
@@irfanmehmud63 Although that might appear to be so, the fact is--and this is my impression after going through representative samples of the primary texts--that Hinduism is not ultimately monistic as is made out to be. The primary texts all point to the supremely conscious personality and suggest his adoration.

there may be different levels of consciousness. On the experiment with the twin slit of particles hitting with random distribution unless observed by a consciou being/agent, it seems that the particles have observed that an observer was observing them and thus align themselves according to the consciousness that is observing inclination. How those particles knew what the observer's inclination was is another question. So, here was an example of a possible consciousness on a particle made up of just one electron making a decision or reaction based on whether there was an observer or not. The whole universe/s is made up of these very same particles and thus conscious as well? We have now found out that our brain makes a decision even before we make ours and this makes free will a big conundrum. It does look like consciousness as well see it is determined somewhere else different from our own deciding mind. Here we can surmise that our consciousness is separate from our brain. Perhaps our consciouness is but a part of the big consciousness field where we get bits and pieces depending on our tendencies.

There is a delay in the brain making the decision and our being AWARE of it - comes from our primitive ancestors where quick reaction to a well-camouflaged lion or tiger, without putting much thought into it - helped save us "our consciousness is separate from our brain" And this consciousness dies as soon as we die?

I wonder if you understand that when you use the term "we" you are referring to the user of the term - that is*you*and his immediate interlocutor, and since you have no immediate interlocutor you are effectively whenever you say "we, saying "I; you are saying that you yourself cannot as you put it "get behind", whatever you mean by "consciousness. Is it not apparent to you that a mirror cannot reflect itself? Why are you creatures so terrified of the perpendicular pronoun or "I" that you must hide behind some fanciful and imaginary "we"? Self-evidently you can experience nothing of the experiences of others because if you could, every time they had a headache you would have a headache, and since that is not the case, it follows the night the day that you cannot experience the experiences of others, so your famous "we" can only be fanciful.

Spirit is the essence of consciousness, the energy of the Universe that creates all things. Each one of us is a part of that Spirit Energy - a Divine Entity. So the Spirit is the Higher Self, the Eternal Being that lives within us. Form is the physical world: body, mind, personality. We as spiritual beings created the physical world as a place to learn. We're here to learn how to master the process of creation - to learn how to consciously channel the creative energy of spirit into physical form. HOW CONSCIOUNESS CREATES REALITY? If God is Reality And if Reality Is Consciousness Then God Is Consciousness I Think therefore I Am God Consciousness The whole universe is one reality which is pure consciousness. Pure consciousness is absolute existence. God makes things through the direct act of becoming the things which He creates. In the beginning the One differentiated into the many. The One entered into the many and became the Self of each. The being within everything is the One. When you merge with this nonlocal Self, you become one with the Self of all that exists. The One is the Higher Self of all. You are the One. The God Spirit In Me Is The Same God Spirit In You, And The Spirit Of All Beings. Enlightenment Is The realization That You Are All Part Of The Universal Spirit Of All That Exists, Which Is GOD. Each of us is the universal spirit projecting a particular point of view. My Self is inseparable from all that exists, just as your self is inseparable from all that exists. You are an aspect of Infinite Intelligence, and Infinite Intelligence is the source of all that exists. Therefore you are the source of all that exists and you create your own experience. Everything is possible because everything exists within you. The same unbounded potential of the Infinite Spirit also resides in each and every one of us. Everything in the universe is consciousness. Space and time in all planes of reality are only projections within universal consciousness. There really is no here or there for everything is at one place where Mind is. Mind does not move at all. Mind simply is (Not to be confused with the brain). Mind is everywhere yet nowhere. Mind is nowhere but Here, Now. We are all existing together as a singularity in one place and time. Everything is one, Here and Now. Your soul is the reflection of all souls. You are the Other. Without the other, you would not exist. You are defined by your relationships with others. You would need to describe the whole universe in order to define a single person. Therefore every single person is the whole universe. Your soul is both personal and universal at the same time. Everyone is a reflection of yourself. You are in a hall of mirrors where every reflection of yourself appears different. Others you admire reflect the qualities you most cherish in yourself. Others you detest reflect the qualities you most deny in yourself. Each person you see is a different version of you. The outer world is a mirror of yourself at any place and time. If you want to know the state of your personal consciousness, just look around and see what is happening to you. If you want to know the state of the collective consciousness, just look around at what is happening in the world. Your personal reality is synchronistically orchestrated by your sense of Self at all times. If a critical mass of people expressed their higher selves, they would cause a transformation in collective consciousness and the world reality. Every time a person rises in personal consciousness, he moves the state of the world towards a higher one than before. TRANSCENDENT WORLD: You are comfortable here when you can experience all possibilities. Your awareness is open. You are connected to the source. Your consciousness is merged with the mind of God. SUBTLE WORLD: You are comfortable here when you can hold on to your vision. You trust yourself to follow where the mind goes. You aren't bound up in resistance, objections, skepticism, and rigid beliefs. Inspiration occurs as a normal part of your existence. MATERIAL WORLD: You are comfortable with your personal reality. You take responsibility for it. You read the world as a reflection of who you are and what is happening "in here." As the reflection shifts and changes, you track the changes occurring inside yourself. If a white man was created by God, And if a black man was created by God, Black and white men are equal before God. If God is reality, And if reality is consciousness, Then God is consciousness The Need to Create, Discover, and Explore. God becomes a creative source. He gave us our birthright of curiosity. He remains unknowable, but he unfolds one secret after another in creation. At the far edge of the universe, the unknown is a challenge and a source of wonder. God wants us not to worship but to evolve. Our role is to discover and explore. Nature exists to provide endless mysteries that challenge our intelligence - there is always more to discover. This is your God if you live to explore and be creative, if you feel happiest confronting the unknown, if you have total confidence that nature can be unraveled, including human nature, as long as we keep questioning and never settle for fixed, preordained truth. God becomes pure wonder. After reason has reached the limits of understanding, the mystery remains. Sages, saints, and the divinely inspired have penetrated it. They have felt a divine presence that transcends everyday life. Materialism is an illusion. Creation was fashioned in two layers, the visible and the invisible. Miracles become real when everything is a miracle. To reach God, one must accept the reality of invisible things. Nature is a mask for the divine. This is your God if you are a spiritual seeker. You want to know what lies behind the mask of materialism, to find the source of healing, to experience peace, and to be in direct contact with a divine presence. Unity, the State Beyond All Needs. God becomes One. There is complete fulfillment because you have reached the goal of seeking. You experience the divine everywhere. The last hint of separation has vanished. You have no need to divide saint from sinner, because God imbues everything. In this state, you don't know the truth; you become it. The universe and every event in it are expressions of a single underlying Being, which is pure awareness, pure intelligence, and pure creativity. Nature is the outward form that consciousness takes as it unfolds in time and space. This is your God if you feel totally connected to your soul and your source. Your consciousness has expanded to embrace a cosmic perspective. You see everything happening in the mind of God. The ecstasy of great mystics, who seem especially gifted or chosen, now becomes available to you, because you have fully matured spiritually. The God that brings the scheme to an end, God as One, is different from the others. He isn't a projection. He signifies a state of total certainty and wonder, and if you reach that state, you are no longer projecting. Every need has been fulfilled; the path has ended with reality itself.

I believe that once you stipulate that there are non-physical realities, such as an idea or a law of the universe, you have crossed a threshold that must allow for other non-physical realities such as god or cosmic consciousness. I ask myself could it be possible that all of existence has no meaning and always the answer is no. But the concept of meaning itself is a non-physical reality that we recognize. So I am left with a strong intuition that there is something greater to be discovered but have no idea how to define it.

A lot of people are not too sensitive to the issue that materialism and deconstruction...all of science...is based on reason, but reason seems to be without foundations. Immanuel Kant explored the lack of foundations for reason in "Critique of Pure Reason". Noting that Kant had raised a good point efforts were made by others to find some foundations. Betrand Russell, with evolution in mind, was able to show that all, or at least most maths, could be founded on some simple mental operations, simple enough that they might not have needed much to evolve. For instance "add 1 and then do that again and again" gets all the whole numbers and a whole lot more and then a relatively simple mental ability to make sets gets you even more. However it was F. Nietzsche, following on Kant, who suspected that if reason is based on simple mental abilities that were evolved then there's not reason to think them accurate in any capital T Truth sense, it's merely pragmatic and could very likely be far from a capital T Truth if any such Truth existed. Going back to Kant, he made the assertion that our minds, in pursuing maths and science, show us how our brain is already wired and we fit all observations into that cuz we have no choice but to. Unless by some really freakish chance our brains/minds are wired to get things right, or Truth with a capital T, we are permanently groping in the dark, maybe getting some things right and some things wrong which we think are right. Moving ahead to Neitzsche he likened scientific inquiry to a blind man firing a shotgun into the air when he hears some birds, occasionally shooting one, and then declaring he's right.

I personally view it as "we" or all of consciousness broken up throughout individual threads of light-essence, working its way up through the life stages of mineral, vegetable and animal. I came to these conclusions based off experiences I've had not only within my own being, but with family and friends. Seeing something no other has ever described leaving my father's chest seconds after his final breath along with my experiences tells me "we" are not these bodies, nor their genders, families or cultures. All life has consciousness comprised of the same material which inhabits a cage that allows it to interface with these bodies to animate their lives. "He" is now his own great-grandson and that is speaking only of one unique experience among many. Of course only recently have I discovered the Upanishads and Vedas., but since I try not to corrupt or influence my own contemplative style, I've exposed myself to very little of it. I see science and religion as the blind children of philosophy. If you start questioning existence within yourself while speaking of past lives since age 5., you might be not like the others., even though every character/awareness is unique. So., "we" are all prisoners born of "god's" conception. Which leaves me to ask., Who are I parents? (Grammatical error intended also rhetorical)

My Personal Conclusions about who we are all from many sources "We Are All One Consciousness" for the following reasons: 1. In this world everything must have a cause, so that something exists because of something else, as well as ourselves. 2. It will be very saturating / boring if we have only one physical form in this world. 3. It will be very saturating / boring if all human beings have the exact same physical form behavior. 4. Try to imagine emptying all the physical things around us only the remnants of humanity, then eliminating all human beings leaving only their memories, then removing all their memories leaving only their consciousness, then connecting that consciousness, feel who we are ??. 5. Body, mind, feelings, emotions and everything in this world is always changing, so what never changes ??, that is our true self, which is true consciousness. If everything changes2 / moves who observes, there must be something fixed to be able to observe. 6. All human beings communicate with each other is the beginning of the beginning / the future of human beings unite, only electronic devices today can unite all human beings, one day the device is implanted in the human mind and eventually man will open all access to his mind. 7. Our body is a group / accumulation of memory accumulated brought from the beginning of the birth of the first human in the world through continuous DNA binding. 8. Twins are born at the same time, what if all human beings are born at the same time ??. What happens if the birth of all human beings is not influenced by the dimensions of space and time ?? 9. The twins are identical to A and B, if the whole memory of A is copied to B, what is the difference ?? 10. The law of attraction (law of attraction) that our minds will attract whatever we think, because we are all like one part of the body. 11. Like some of the video recordings of ourselves there is a video as a vocalist, a video as a violinist, as a pianist, as a drummer, etc. The video2 is made into one in one video then it will produce a more interesting orchestra, something new and more productive. our world. 12. Man's greatest enemy is himself, at this time man is fighting against himself. By believing that we are all one, then the ego will fade because there is no difference between us. 13. That is why the teachings of religion command us to be grateful and beneficial to many, If you are hurting others you are actually hurting yourself, just as if you are doing good to others you are actually doing good to yourself. 14. Could it be that we are all dreaming and our dreams meet each other at the same frequency in parallel. Have you ever, when sleeping dreamed of moving roles as someone else, it is because we are all one. 15. We are not immortal as human beings so that we have time for us to scroll through all of life. 16. "We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience" ~ Stephen Covey, Have you ever felt that our age is too short, could our consciousness be immortal ?. 17. We are one, only the role is different, the memory block between life is what makes people feel different / separate. Just by brainwashing / erasing his memory then someone will be a different person but his consciousness actually remains the same. One consciousness experiences various perspectives of reality. 18. The lucky thing for us is ... awareness is always towards / seeking / having intentions / desires towards good / positive / happiness despite experiencing various mistakes. 19. When we die the body and memory are destroyed, how can we remember ever being dead. Even a few years ago your real body was lost by being replaced by new cells you don't remember. 20. Why do we have to die? ", When we are told to die, later this eternal question will be asked again and we will always be there." The world is a sustainable life". 21. In the beginning we were one, but split through a big explosion or bigbang to become different and separate as it is now, but we are provided with a sense of love for us to be able to be reunited later. 22. There is only us and the mirror of ourselves in this world, yet there is another world out there. 23. We will always smile happily seeing each other as ourselves "How beautiful I am" seeing a different self. 24. If all consciousness is told now that they are all one if the experience gained is enough, the consciousness designed from the beginning is so different that there is so much intrigue, consciousness is created differently so that when it comes together it has an incredible consciousness experience. 25. We are indeed alone in this universe, but there are still many other universes with their own laws of nature. 26. Have you ever felt to come to a place that has never been visited but feel familiar with that place, as if we have lived in that place sometime. 27. The world is like a script of a story that is being written by the author, sometimes changed at the beginning, sometimes changed in the middle, sometimes changed at the end it all depends on us as writers, and every story has wisdom that can be taken as a lesson. 28. Hair grows on its own, heart beats on its own, blood flows on its own, ideas emerge on its own, etc., are we involved ??. 29. Imagine today there was an event that caused only you to live in this world, then who are all the people yesterday ??. 30. "If Quantum Mechanism cannot surprise you, then you do not yet understand Quantum Physics. Everything we have considered real all this time, turns out to be unreal." ~ Niels Bohr. 31. In the scale of quantum physics we are all connected to each other, even in double gap experiments proving that particles change when observed or in other words awareness is able to change reality, this has been repeatedly proven by Nobel laureate in Physics. 32. Everything we experience by our senses will eventually only be an electrical impulse in the brain, is it all real ??. We are beings who realize that we are conscious. 33. We are closer than the veins of his neck. He breathes some of His spirit on you. Knowing oneself means knowing one's God. Indeed, we will return to HIM. You are far I am far, you are near I am near. I am everywhere. Before the existence of this world there was no material other than Him. The True Spirit is only One, the Creator. I agree with your prejudice. 34. Whether the Creator is only tasked with creating, is it possible that the creator does not want to try the results of his creation through another perspective. 35. There is no reincarnation, it is possible that our consciousness is synchronized and evenly distributed at the speed of light through energy, and that is why we need sleep, that is why we are often not aware of something, ourselves are like some chess pieces played by a player, that's why if we moving at the speed of light we can penetrate the dimensions of space and time, when we die then wake up and we will regain consciousness as humans. 36. Have we ever had a problem and suddenly someone came to provide a solution to the problem we are experiencing, as if someone was sent by the universe to help us in solving the problem, which is actually our own awareness that sends that person to us. 37. A thousand years ago did human beings see, hear and be trapped in their hearts about current technological advances ??. If we all tend to sin (damage) then it will be the world of hell, if we all tend to do good then it will be the world of heaven. 38. Knowledge learns objects, God who created our consciousness, it is impossible for God to be the object of knowledge. 39. It is not possible for human creation which is only in the form of words / symbols to represent true truth. 40. Is there a meaning of being without consciousness ?? then we are adventurers of this existence. Sy 41. The life of the world is just a game and a joke, the one who wins the game of the world is the one who finds his true self. 42. When the existence of the world ends we will know everything. 43. My consciousness undergoes a very extraordinary life experience, feeling life experience with different forms and different places even though in fact my consciousness is always the same, wow .. I was surprised !! how wide I am. 44. Consciousness in fact does not know the concept of time, consciousness can experience / undergo into another physical form because the dimension of time can be penetrated by consciousness, as when we imagine we can act as anyone without time bound, because in this universe time can in fact materialize free, time can move straight, curved, rotate, etc. Our time travel is when our consciousness moves to a new physical experience. 45. We are an awareness, a concept that is able to answer various things. 46. Remember when you were going to leave, you were worried about losing me ??, calm down .. I was everywhere and we would always be able to meet again, believe me. 47. Without searching what is the difference between us in this world and us in a dream while sleeping just passing by without meaning. 48. In conclusion, whatever role we play, it is all our own design, so just enjoy. 49. I never said that self is God, I thought that self is one consciousness, God should be higher and perfect than consciousness. 50. God created us to be Happy, so do not disappoint God. Understand it and be Shining. inspired of : kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqW3aaONfr5_arM kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmfJlH6Vm7eMl6s

I am a little simple minded and straight to the point. To me, consiousness leads to the fear of death wich leads to a search for a way to calm the anxiety, a God is as good as hoping for science to find a way to be immortal.

Although it's not proven, I don't have any doubt that consciousness (subjective or otherwise) is emergent from the most complex information network we know of in the universe, the human brain.. We don't survive death, rather we simply cease to exist upon bodily death. If one believes otherwise, then their explanation must include how their belief conforms with the 2nd law of thermodynamics or an admission that their belief in a designer falls within the category of the metaphysical, not science

Even within the scientific community, there are all but endless ways to interpret data. We forget that even the interpretation of fact occurs via predisposition...a model, which we have been taught. So why believe or don't belive in anything because of 'data?' Really, I'm not suggesting throwing the baby out with the bathwater. What I'm saying is that to truly know, one must be able to interpret the data themselves, because someone's interpretation of the data is not the data itself.

Robert, I have watched hundreds of your interviews, and I really appreciate what your doing in taking us along on your journey. I’d like to suggest that it is time for you to meet and talk with Rupert Spira. I think he may have some of the answers you are looking for. All the best,

No he doesn't. His main proposition is that what we are is consciousness or awareness and that I can agree with, but I don't follow his reasoning for the existence of god. Also many things he talks about are ill-defined. It's also unclear how awareness is infinite and everlasting while he differenciates between consciousness and the contents of consciousness. The latter is what ceases to exist when we die, but what is awareness/consciousness without content? How does it differ from the believe that nothingness follows death?

Sam Riviera - It is easy to be dismissive of something when you don’t understand it well. Rupert Spira is one of the foremost modern teachers of Advaita Vedanta, which is one of the few truly sophisticated philosophies ever developed by humans.

Observing a moving car on the road we may conclude that the car is conscious. The car seem conscious in avoiding any accidents, conscious in staying on the foad, conscious in observing the road signs, conscious in where it going. Who is making the car seems to be conscious? THE DRIVER. If the driver leaves the the car, the car may still be 'alived' but UNCONSCIOUS. Thus when we are asleep, we are still alive but temperorily unconscious. We die in our sleep if our 'consciousness' fail to return to our body. Our consciousness is our 'soul' and is deteched from our body. When we die our body rot and return to the soil but our soul live on with a new body in a new dimension.

I've just been sitting in my yard, enjoying the sunshine, with my dog at my feet. Suddenly, I felt a few drops of rain, but decided it wasn't worth going indoors yet. My dog, on the other hand, raised himself up, shook his whole body and went indoors. He was obviously conscious of the rain and decided what to do about it, proving God exists.
