This game formula is what the series need, many modes and different grades of achievement on top of collectables it was way ahead of its time. One of my favorites on the n64 although it is original for the PC. Rogue squadron series is a must if you like the concept of ships and missions.

Nightdive is committed to faithful updates to older games, it was definitely a deliberate choice to leave all the old clunky levels (like the sewer... *shudder*) intact - they made it so you could flip back and forth between the original and new assets so that essentially locked them in to exact level accuracy. I loved this game when it first came out but I think we can all admit it had some shortcomings and several things haven't aged gracefully, it was only a slight step up from a DOOM conversion mod after all. The sequels Jedi Knight and Outcast were dramatic improvements in every respect, leaving this one a bit antiquated by comparison. But important for historical reasons.

I want to play this but not until there's a sale or price drop. $30 seems steep for what we're getting here. I think last year's Boltgun was a great example of how to make a modernized version of a game like this, so it would have been nice to see this get some more changes and QoL improvements.

I'd love to see a review of Turok 1 and 2 as well. Same company that did this remaster (Night Dive Studios) also remastered those

There's also Turok 3, but even with it recently remastered, I still think it's a lackluster game.

Fun fact: the reason why the Stormtroopers blaster is so inaccurate is grounded in lore as they used cheap mass-produced crystals that resulted in poor accuracy of the blasters.

And the lack of a scope. The E-11 rifles get really effective in the Jedi Knight follow-ups because of it.

Well, I enjoyed Dark Forces growing up. It was entirely a shooter, and you did have to figure out a few puzzles. This was fibe by me. When Rouge one came out, I wondered how close the movie might be simular to the game. Well... the world didn't get anything similar. At least dark troopers showed up later in live action film.
@michaelandreipalon3599 ай бұрын
Pity said Dark Troopers got badly nerfed, as are a lot of things in the Disney Alt-universe (looking at you, noticeably slower, no-ion cannons TIE Defender).

I'm loving this game. The original didn't support the dualshock thumbsticks on PS1 and the basic pc controls also aren't great. I love how they included the prototype tutorial and have options for the og style and remastered. I think the price might be overboard though as it's not that long, probably should've been 15 or 20.

I didn't play remastered, but I played the original like a year ago. It was nice, only the sewer level was too bad, was too dark. And at the blue planet 6:11 I was little lost. But it gave me more than what I expected. But while I was playing it, I didn't realize there were 2 weapon mod, I always used secondary fire, I realised at the last stage while fighting boss. Well expecting too much from remastered not right I think, if looking like remake version there should be JKII or JA mods to play. But that remaster is not right either. That graphic improvement and mouse controls were moddeble when I played. Looks like they didn't add a new thing. I suggest to play with auto aim if you have bad at aiming like me. Also, I think it is more playable. I played both dark forces and dark forces II with auto aim. And it was nice. I am sad about this why they abandoned this system. We can still look use mouse to look environment with auto aim. Also, I think many multiplayer games will be more enjoyable. Because everyone would have same chance to shoot. I can not play fps multiplayer games because of that when one maniac guy plays like aim hack it ruins it.

Sounds to me like the remaster is the definitive way to play the game, and it seems like it works on Steam Deck, so I'll consider it if I can get a good price, since Australian prices for games usually suck. Would be nice if they added the CD soundtrack from the PS1 version as an option.

I really wanted to play it as I was also too young to experience any games in the series before Outcast but £25.99 is too high an asking price (especially with Battlefront collection around the corner)

Just finished this game today, I played it on Easy mode. The game still holds up just like Doom or Duke Nukem 3D. The remaster of Dark forces is amazing, although I would say Mission 6 is the worst.
