I like the entire Luminous mysteries, the 5th w/the institution of the Eucharist is one of my favorites. The 2nd mystery, the miracle of Cana, demonstrates how Mary does the Will of God perfectly. I cannot imagine Mother would disagree w/Saint John Paul II. He’s revered as an important Marian, and one of the Saints highlighted in 33 Days to Morning Glory, which is a study to Consecrate to Mary. Pondering on the Luminous mysteries always yields fruit!

As a former Protestant, I do love the Luminous mysteries. But then someone pointed out to me that they are about Jesus, whereas, the others are about Mary. The original ones draw us into a humility with Mary, whereas it is my opinion that the Luminous has a danger to be and feel “illuminated” and can lead to pride of mind to presume to know the mind of God. Since I’m already too prideful, I now I stick to the originals. But I do think the luminous are a good tool to bring in Protestants. (These are my 2 cents, which are worth less today than they ever were, thanks to Biden.) May God have mercy on us all!

Our Lord and Our Lady aren’t in competition with each other over who’s the real protagonist of each mystery. We go to Jesus through Mary. Both are certainly present in all the joyful mysteries; those beautiful scenes from The Passion of the Christ based on the visions of Bl. Anne Catherine Emmerich show Our Lady was nearby Our Lord throughout the passion, bearing mystically in her sorrowful Immaculate Heart the physical sufferings of Our Lord. Our Lady was the first to whom Our Lord appeared after the resurrection. She was there at the Ascension and at Pentecost. Our Lord was the One who Assumed Our Lady incorrupt into heaven and coronated her. It ain’t no either/or problem.

When I first became Catholic I prayed the Luminous Mysteries every weekday at Adoration before the daily Mass at 9am. My reasoning was simple, "What better way to prepare to receive the Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ, than to contemplate the life of Christ and the Institution of the Eucharist!" You see, after a wonderful and strong homily about the Rosary by a local priest during Mass while going through the RCIA program, I went out and bought one. I found myself praying the Rosary daily at first, and then sometimes 3 to 4 times a day, or more. At times I even found myself praying the Rosary all day barely taking time to eat. I can not begin to describe the countless blessings and graces I received during this time in my life. The sense of peace I was given was profound, and led to many of the blessings and graces I received, and I came to understand how men choose the priesthood as their vocation. Oh, by the way, the only people I know praying the 150 chapters of the Book of Psalms, a.k.a. the "Divine Office" which takes 1.5 to 2 hours a day, everyday for 7 days in conjunction with praying the Rosary everyday, is the Priesthood of the Catholic Church! Henceforth, let it be known...if you choose this path of Prayer, Adoration and receiving Holy Communion at Mass everyday, you just might become unrecognizable to many of those around you...and ultimately hated by the world.

Today is the first time I heard about the Luminous mystery that it was only proposed by St. Pope JPII and that it’s optional to any individual to include it as an additional rosary to what was originally given to St. Benedict by the Blessed Mother Mary. Thank you Dr. Marshall for the explanation and clarification. As referenced also in the Bible, yes I will follow Mother Mary’s Rosary. However, I will continue St. Paul JPII Luminous rosary as a Chaplet. Thanks again for your great sharing.🙏🙏🙏

As a traditional Catholic I started praying the rosary with my Mom and six other siblings at around 8 years old. I am now 65. I've been devoted to the Blessed Mother most of my life, and she kept me safe even in the 10 years that I left the Faith, but re-verted back in 2001. When the Luminous Mysteries first came out, I didn't know what to think about them. And then about five years ago, for whatever reason, I became offended that someone even a Pope, would insert them into the Blessed Mother's Rosary that she gave to all us through the saints. I began to think the Blessed Mother's Rosary are about "her" life events. I love Jesus but how does this fit into her particular joys, sorrows, and glory? I kind of had a standoff with them. Then ... as Our Blessed Mother notoriously does with me, she began to soften my heart. She basically told me, "Yes, it is true, I did not hand them down as part of my rosary and reflections on my life, but they are, nonetheless -- Good. Treat them AS IF I gave them to you." And then I began to realize that she really did want Thursday to be the day that all of her children would remember the Institution of the Holy Eucharist, because so many worldwide had forgotten to give reverence to Our Lord for his great Sacrifice and His great Love to become Bread for us. Now I pray them without the least bit of hesitancy, knowing it pleases her.

@@spelcheak for example the transfiguration, institution of the holy Eucharist are point mentioned in at the end of the joyful, in my booklet that I use to reflect on our Lord as I pray. To me symbolism can take different forms art, statues, numbers, the convey an idea, lessons or thoughts. Dr Marshall spoke of 150 in reference to the psalms, which also remind us of the story of our lord telling them to cast out the nets ….. Even though this was not a point when you see a painting of St Elizabeth greetings our Lady (Visitation) we recall her saying …And who am I that the mother of my lord should come and visit me, and the infant in her womb jumped…..but this also is symbolic of King David similar words and jumping for joy when the Ark came to him. As the say pictures are worth a thousand words, Symbolism is much more. Hope that helped my friend. Viva Cristo Rey !

@Mikemanify
@Mikemanify 2 жыл бұрын
@@jacobreed5655 But it is the Hail Marys that historically replaced the Psalms. Hence Our Lady's Psalter. In the days when there were lay brothers or sisters they were not required to pray the Office. Often they would pray the Psalter of Our Lady, 150 Hail Marys. God bless
@jacobreed5655
@jacobreed5655 2 жыл бұрын
@@Mikemanify yes, the people were illiterate and so monks suggested they say 150 Hail Mary's for each Psalm = the title Mary's Psalter. However, this wasn't done officially by the Church nor was there an apparition at this point. Saying 150 Hail Mary's in a row is very boring and monotonous. So they organically added Our Father's at the beginning of 10 Hail Mary's and a Glory Be at the end. They then began to randomly carve biblical stories of all kinds into the large Our Father beads. The joyful, sorrowful, and glorious mysteries ended up sticking. Once again, organically with no Church or Heavenly intercession. Traditionally people say 1 rosary or Plaster of Mary a day, that being 50 Hail Mary's and 5 Our Father's, and 5 Glory Be's. If we're gonna stick with the idea of monks reciting all 150 Psalms a day, then the tradition should be to say 150 uninterrupted Hail Mary's a day. Or, now that we're literate, just read all 150 Psalms. The number 150 isn't important, it's saying the Rosary and reflecting on the life of Jesus & Mary. The Luminous mysteries do this. This is the "Rad-Trads" picking a worthless fight and shooting themselves in the foot out of stubborn pride.

As one of those RAD TRADS myself, I understand and agree with Dr. Taylor Marshall if you are on the schedule on praying ONE set of mysteries per day...HOWEVER, people are missing the BIG PICTURE! Our Lady has said that if you truly understood just how powerful your Rosaries are, you would never stop praying them. That each ‘Hail Mary’ prayed from the heart has the power to convert souls and defeat Satan and free souls from purgatory and literally work miracles...just with one ‘Hail Mary’. Now imagine after you pray the COMPLETE ROSARY: the first 150 ‘Hail Mary’s’ (Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious mysteries all in one day), that you pray overtime, or bonus time with another 50 ‘Hail Mary’s’ (Luminous) for a total of 200 ‘Hail Mary’s’. By doing that you just converted many more souls and defeated Satan’s plan to destroy humanity that much more, and freed more souls from purgatory, and accomplished more miracles throughout the Earth, and most importantly made more reparations for your own sins and the sins of the world! With all that said, ask yourself one question: How is that a bad thing? Look at the big picture, people!
@nifty1940

Nonsense! Our lady didn't ask us to "look at the big picture". She specifically gave us, from the Wisdom granted Her by God, a perfect prayer - no less, no more! I'd like to know how any human can be wiser than the Mother of God. I am not a modernist, but a rigid trad (the kind despised by a current "innovative" pope), and am sceptical of any "innovation" from any pope, priest, prelate or person, learned from the tragedy known as vat2. We are in our predicament, specifically, because we didn't want to listen, heed and obey all Heavenly warnings, about were we were heading, and where we have arrived. A pox on "innovation" and every man and his dog's interpretation of it!

nifty1940(Troll) Small minded people like you would have other Catholics believe that it’s “nonsense” to pray more ‘Hail Mary’s’? Seriously? Do you really think the Angels & Saints in Heaven are not incessantly praying ‘Hail Mary’s’ as well for the whole world? As Bishop Sheen once said: It is a new moment in time to pray another ‘Hail Mary’ and tell Her ‘I love you’. What parent would say to their child?: “Whatever you do, don’t say ‘I love you’ to me more than 150 times throughout the day, any more than that and I will ground you!” If a person’s mom died, who wouldn’t give anything to have just one more moment with their mom just to say ‘I love you Mom’?” Get off the troll train, troll.

As a Lutheran I find this very interesting and I learned something, that Catholic high school didn't teach me. I bet many people in the local Catholic parish wouldn't have a clue about this. However even as an outsider I deem it necessary for every Christian to learn the basics of Church history and the main tenets of the Lutheran, Anglican, Catholic and Orthodox tradition so we can stop fighting over things we mostly agree

The rosary is a personal devotion. Just like the scapular that has many varieties. Why should we question the luminous mysteries? The rosary also undergone a lot of developments from the time of Santo Domingo de Guzman. If the saint will come down to heaven, he will not recognize our Latin rosary, but if he finds that the pope has added the luminous mystery, he will pray it also with us.

I think Mary gave us the three particular mysteries for a reason. I'm no theologian but I think the purpose of the traditional is to focus on how Jesus' physical body was transformed for our salvation: birth, passion, resurrection. They focus on the themes of creation, disintegration, and renewal. Though there is nothing wrong in meditating on the Luminous mysteries, these events don't emphasize this theme.

There's also the fact that the three traditional sets of mysteries focus on Mary's role in the Incarnation, Passion and glory... she was there in all those moments, beginning with her Fiat. The "luminous mysteries", with the exception of the wedding at Cana, don't involve her.

Very nicely put. Glad to see we’re still aligned, as I highly respect your earnestness. I prayed on this issue for a long time before I finally adopted the traditional practice. Long story short, I concluded that God has given us a rhythm to our prayer life. The week consists of 2 (uncoincidentally) three-day cycles, followed by the Lord’s day. As such, I pray each of the three traditional sequences of joyous, sorrowful, and glorious mysteries one per day in that order twice a week and then on Sunday the one that is in focus in the current liturgical season (I.e., Advent, Lent, Easter,/Pentecost or Ordinary Time).

Exactly! Which is why I recite the Acts of Faith, Hope, and Charity, on those three beads, before the Ave Maria. The important significance of the number three cannot be over emphasized in our Catholic Faith. The Holy Trinity, the Three Kings, the three steps to the altar, the three days our Lord was in the Tomb, the prophesied Three Days of Darkness. This is not an accident.

A mighty, heartfelt AMEN to the Doctor for a well balanced, thoughtful, and thoroughly convincing explanation on why the Rosary IS the Psalter. The 150 Psalms in honor of our Lady. This is the tradition which stretched far back into the Middle Ages, and is still with the us today. The deep symbolism behind the number three in the Catholic Faith cannot be overemphasized, and is evidently present throughout the Rosary. The Luminous Mysteries are an addition which should be prayed separately from our Lady's Psalter, which is THE ROSARY. Which is what our Lady asks us to pray everyday, by the way, and not one Mystery. Pope John Paul II never rendered these Mysteries mandatory, or essential. This, again springs from the misunderstandings from Catholics not Catechised, nor well versed enough in matters of their Faith to understand the true reasons behind Pope John Paul II's intentions. He never pontificated the Luminous Mysteries be set in stone. The option is left up to the devotee. Again, I'm with the Doctor with his opinion that this attempt to re-engineer the Rosary, falls into the same trap which Modernists gladly and wilfully do in their drive to change everything. Annibale Bugnini, the Freemason, and one of the head villains behind the Novus Ordo, intended to completely redo the Rosary. Many other examples of the Faith underwent this assault in their traditional form, practices and expressions, and in doing so, were reduced in their potency, efficacy, and beauty. Many did not survive, but were simply abolished or left forgotten. Traditionalist Catholics have keen eyes, and know a true tradition when they see one, and one that is not. Hence, the Luminous mysteries are not part of the weekly rotation. While beautiful, it is a separate meditation and should be treated as such. Good job Doctor Taylor!

I get to reflect on Jesus’s teachings as I pray. My second favorite set of mysteries are the joyous mysteries, because it reminds me of what it says in Luke “and these are the things Mary holds in her heart”. Something like that…don’t shoot me. The Modernist goal here is to downplay the Sorrowful Mysteries. They tout "all souls go to Heaven". They ignore "take up your cross". Like Joel Olsteen, they want to say "be Catholic and happiness will be yours". No Penance. No Hell. Barely any Purgatory. Certainly no Guilt! Not for your Sins! Just things like not donating to their causes, being "rigid" in trying to strive for the Narrow Gate, or being "divisive".
