Malte According to reputable theologians, spiritual writers, there are basically three forms of prayer: 1. Vocal payer. It consists of formal prayers. 2. Mental or thinking prayer according to St Theresa of Avila 3. Prayer of the heart, which is wordless prayer. A resting in God, so to speak.

I also reflected on the prayer of the heart and silent prayer.Words are carelessly spoken and often what my confessions reflect on.🙊 Prayers often get me through those moments in life that are lessons, then blessings. Grace, Gratitude, GOD.Amen.🙏

Most important thing: when you pray , don't pray with your lips only but with all your heart. Don't let your prayer go empty. It is NOT the language you pray that matters but your soul. Do you know why God loves more the prayers of women than of men? Because when a woman prays she puts all her heart there for God to hold and heal. Put your heart in everything you do because everything that is made with love praises God too. 💖💞🙏😻

I agree with praying with your whole heart. Absolutely! But what is your source for saying God loves the prayers of women more than men? I know you're trying to say that women pray more from the heart but that seems like a feeling not a fact. We don't know people's hearts and it's never for us to judge that... Just respectfully asking, friend.

depends on what it is that you are doing and then the language will actually matter, but definitely don't forget about the heart.

If “it is not the language you pray that matters” then why is the devil mostly scare of Latin? Let’s say, I pray in Spanish, you pray in English and if we have someone pray in Korean, How are we going to be one voice? it’s all deferent, but if we all pray in Latin then it’s one voice that is why is universal.

As an Orthodox Christian ( an Ortho-Bro) I pray the Our Father in Latin (Church pronunciation) often. I also pray for the reunion of the Church and and for all Roman Christians like Dr. Marshall who are working to bring that Church back from what it has become. I’m sorry if this offends. I only use Church when describing the Orthodox or the Romans. Otherwise I use church or community.

Since learning some Latin when I now pray the Rosary I pray one Hail Mary in English and then the Ave Maria in Latin. I am certainly not saying this is for everyone and Yes one must pray from the Heart but my praying the Rosary this way Helps ME to stay Focused. Remember the First Commandment . We must Love the Lord Our God with all of our Hearts All of Our Souls and all of our Minds . My Praying the Rosary this way Helps Me to Focus My Mind . God Bless All .

📿🙏✝️I'm Hispanic, so my latin shows a hint of that. It's how I was able to grasp the prayers too (Pater Noster/Padre nuestro que estas en el cielo... & Ave Maria/Ave Maria- obviously I now know there's differences but initially that's what helped me). Can't wait for u to go through the fatima prayer, there are different ones. I believe the fatima prayer I'm used to is different than the ones I see online.

I managed to pick up the Hail Mary and Glory be but I wasn't getting the our Father so I made it my goal to learn it this year. I tried teaching myself but felt defeated. Have been asking my Guardian Angel to help me to learn it, then I saw a few days ago that you will be teaching it!! A group of us from around the world pray together the rosary in Latin for prolife intentions and its for those truly devoted to learning and praying the most powerful way. Some words are a little tricky but most are straight forward. So far I only have the Ave Maria down pat next is the Pater Noster. A fee more tricky long words there. But practise makes perfect.

Hello Dr Taylor M. I want to Thank you for teaching my Mom and myself how to pray in Latin, during the Pandemic. Our Priest didn't like for us to know how to pray it, although he asked if I know the Greek Prayer and I was wondering if you know it?!, I happen to start reading a Book about Garabandal and the priest who saw the Vrgin Mary and what will happen in the future and passed away that day, he taught the young ladies how to pray in greek, because the Virgin Mary asked him to teach them. Thank you and Blessings to you and your family.

If you type in the you tube search bar "Latin Rosary Lo Ve" there is a really well done video that shows all the Latin words of the Rosary on the screen in real time as the sound plays, is done in Gregorian chant form (so less boring than normal language) and includes portraits of the Virgin Mary from countries around the world during the Hail Mary portion. Also, the Our Father is a recording of Saint Pope John Paul II. Anyways, it should help with pronunciation of the Latin!

I love the Luminous Mysteries. I think it adds to the Rosary because it is uniquely dedicated to Jesus. Perhaps because I was not reared Catholic, but converted at age 30. One year at a high church Episcopalian using the 1928 Book of Prayers which is beautiful. I was in the choir which sang mostly Catholic and Orthodox music, because of its beauty, but also Protestant songs, all classical. After one year I entered the Catholic Church. My spiritual life suffered because the NO mass was so inferior to the 1928 Book of Prayers service. The music was also dreadful, and the priests were disrespectful. At least two hit on me. I suffered many years with the horrible masses when I moved to another town,where in the class instructing a heretical Catechism, denying the physical resurrection. My point is I had no experience of Mary and still don’t. I had a powerful experience of the Trinity, many graces at conversion. I am just praying the rosary for the last several weeks. The inclusion of the Luminous mysteries helps me to want to pray the Rosary daily, because my whole experience of the faith is based on Jesus. This lesson actually made me doubt your spirituality and I probably won’t pray it in Latin for that reason. I have to stop watching you because sadly.,I love the Latin Mass, but always felt the devotion to Mary has felt somewhat sacrilegious. I have been enjoying praying the Rosary, because most mysteries do focus on Jesus, except the last two Glorious. As far as Latin, I can play the Rosary in French as I am fluent, and in Spanish, but praying it in my native English, leads me to focus more on the mysteries. I don’t usually use beads because I use scriptural rosaries, or art based rosaries, which keep track of the decades. The rosary beads seem to me like showing off. Also, I never say the rosary in groups, because they are spoken so rapidly it seems disrespectful. I respect your opinion, but that is all it is.

Do they roll their R's in Latin? I always assumed they did, but when I hear anglos recite latin prayers, lile Dr Marshall, they seem to be using the anglo "R". Rolling Rs the Italian way or the French way is easy for me as I am fluent in French, but I'm just curious which is more authentic in Latin prayers. To my mind it sounds a lot better with rolled Rs (and specifically the type where you use the tip of your tongue, like the Italians, as opposed to the back of the throat, like some of the French) but I've only ever learned of Catholic prayers from anglos and I know a lot of anglos simply can't roll their Rs. Am I being a dumb dumb? Italian and Latin are similar right?

The a in pater is short. The o in noster is short. I dont know what kind of confusion you have with accents (stress) and vowel lengths, but you often link where the accent (stress) falls with a remark that that vowel is long. Stress and vowel length are 2 different things.

It’s also worth mentioning that in the cases of Islam and Judaism, where their Scriptures are in the original languages, that didn’t happen in Christianity. Aramaic was the language of Christ, yet the Roman Catholic Church never adopted it as the language for the vulgate. Instead they chose Latin. Politics decided that it wasn’t Greek, if memory serves. One would have to guess that they thought about language the same way I do; as a vehicle. The Buddha said that the teachings were a raft to cross a river. But why would anybody carry the raft with them once they’d reached the other shore? It’s purpose has been accomplished so it’s no longer necessary. Language is similar, wouldn’t you say?

@AL_YZ
@AL_YZ 2 жыл бұрын
One way to have a less heavy American accent is to avoid the "plosive" meaning the strong puff of air when English speakers pronounce consonants especially in the initial or frontal position. For instance, English speakers say the "P" in the word "power" with a strong aspiration or puff. Spanish speakers if you notice, say the "p" in "power" without that puff that is why it sounds flatter. Same with the letter "T" , "C" .That is closer to a more neutral sounding Latin. Another aspect is to avoid diphthongs when pronouncing certain vowels. diphthongs are two sounds joined together. English speakers for instance pronounce the letter "O' in the word "NO" not as a single sound as in Spanish but as if it were a combination of two sounds. like "ne-oo" or /noʊ/ or /nəʊ/ with the lips changing position from start of the "o" to the end. So "noster" should not sound like "know" + "ster" which is how most English speakers pronounce the word. In Spanish, the "o" is just one sound that is why it sounds flat. That is closer to a more neutral sounding Latin. That is because Spanish and Italian are languages descended from Latin.

Do you think God cares how you pronounce a dead language?
@AL_YZ
@AL_YZ 2 жыл бұрын
@@KingMswatiIII That is very Protestant of you. Next you're going to say, "Do you think God cares that you pray in a dead language? Dr. Marshall actually spends a good amount of time on how to pronounce certain letters so I was contributing my bit to the topic. Nothing more. I suggest that instead of that mindset, it would be better to think about it this way: whatever you do, particularly with a language consecrated to prayer to God and used for that singular purpose, you do the best you can. Not perfection because we humans are not capable of that. But we do the best we can because that is pleasing to God. In the same we , Christians used to dress in their Sunday best when going to church not because "Does God care what you wear?" but because we do it out of a reverence and respect. Thus we do the best we can.
@KingMswatiIII
@KingMswatiIII 2 жыл бұрын
@@AL_YZ "That is very Protestant of you." Guilty as charged. God understands what we are saying. Back when people still spoke Latin, a lot of uneducated people didn't speak it very well. Their prayers were heard by God just as well as the prayers of people who spoke Latin perfectly.
@AL_YZ
@AL_YZ 2 жыл бұрын
@@KingMswatiIII Well you could be mistaken for a Catholic modernist - you will be happy to know. So could much of the Catholic hierarchy. And Pope Francis is in full agreement with you that is why he is coming down hard on the Latin mass, hoping to extinguish it entirely. The Protestant world would be glad to know that the Novus Ordo mass is entirely in the vernacular - although I am sure that incremental "reformation" hardly goes far enough to satisfy your Protestant sensibilities. Perhaps you would also encourage the Syriac, Assyrian and Chaldean Christians who still use Aramaic - the language of Christ - going all the way back to when those churches were founded by the Apostles themseves in their liturgical celebration, to abandon that dead language and get with the spirit of the times. After all, as you say, who needs dead languages. ...But then, they would be just another one of the thousands of DIY protestant churches... and who needs more of those?

@@AL_YZ I despise all forms of religious modernism, whether Catholic, Protestant, or anything else. But sometimes Catholic modernists accidentally get something right. There's no point in praying in a dead language. In the New Testament people were given the gift of tongues for the express purpose of making sure that people could understand exactly what they are saying.

Just be careful with the double r in terra. The double r is pronounced with a stronger trill than the single r in the same way as in italian and spanish.

OK. 1240 AD Hostyn Hill, Monrovia Faith brought by St Cyril. Great Mongol army approaching from the East. No help coming. Who do you call No, Not the Ghostbusters. Two paths of defense: 1. Use anything you could to slow the invaders down. 2. Go to Church, ask the Theotokos for help. No particular Marian prayer was mentioned. Just asking Our Mom for help. However, they got help. Theotokes came holding her Son. He had a bunch of lighting bolts. She had Him directed the enemy. Plus a huge rainstorm came. Between the Mother and Son, plus the "Magnificent Seven" type of defense, the hoard turn around and went home. This small untrained group stopped an army Russia and Poland could not. OK, they had some great help.... If this invasion eould have gotten past Hostyn, Western Civ, and most of the Latin Church, would have been OVER! Why have we been not told about this? Defenders were Morevian? Defenders did not use Rosary. I really think She will help her children if they ask for her intercession with true faith and heart. And thete are times you do not have time fore a Rosary. Just a Hail Mary and HELP!
