This highlights something I've noticed a lot of. How disheartening non-response to specific programming is for trainee's. I have lots of friends that have not responded to exercise programs that are low in frequency/intensity/volume, and then given up after 12 weeks of hard work. A casual observer would call them "undisciplined" or "lazy" but their efforts were high, and their attitude hopeful, going into the interventions. Habit formation needs to see the relative reward value of new behaviours so as to re-enforce them, so with 12 weeks of no apparent progress it is not reasonable to expect them to continue that habit. It's a coach's responsibility, then, to help ensure there is a metric being measured to give a trainee HOPE and evidence of progress. Programming that repeats the same loads week in and week out with no measurement of progress would fail lots of people who don't respond to that dose of exercise (bootcamps come to mind)

Dude this happens a lot with doctors/physios/chiropractors etc. giving out very low impact exercises which become easy incredibly quickly and then NEVER UPDATE their exercises. Patient then stops doing exercises because it's boring and nothing happens.

@@notsosecretsnacker5218 you go to physio for initial stage but once strong enough you go see exercise physiologist to load it up with more resistance. What do physios know about exercise physiology when their main job is to restore your range of motion right? The problem lies behind educating an individual regarding how long it will take to ingrain new habits and see results and it takes process. Most adults like short cuts and little work to get the results they want. How many adults accept truth when you educate them that it will take awhile to achieve your goal starting from scratch?

This is me except is about 8 years of trying different strategies and being very very committed. It has become pretty embarrassing seeing how hard I’ve tried to make substantial progress and seeing that I am essentially a near non responder to strength training.

How awesome would it be to visit your Doctor to discuss aches and pains.... And come away with Deadlifting advice. What a world that would be....
