Observations on your instance 1,2: The writing was done intentionally to make us understand that Alisha didn't fall for Zain for money. She wasn't happy with the lackluster and laidback approach of Karan who was happy with what life gave him instead of making things happen. Then she meets Zain who is shown as some go getter and believes in the fact that life is about the choices we make. Observations to your instance 3: They did not give you the screenplay of Zain not being happy with Tia before they met Alisha, but if you see the phone conversations with Tia's mother, she constantly reminds him of how lucky he is to be associated with Tia and her family and the writing was on the wall that he was falling out of love. The characters were all flawed and the decisions that they took come from their respective dark past. The movie wasn't perfect in terms of the moral compass and I guess that's what the movie aimed for.
@dharabarot40332 жыл бұрын
Agreed with everything!!! The scene that stuck with me the most is when Alisha is going to take her anxiety meds, and she’s stopped by zain. From what I understood is that zain listens to her trauma and shares his, that’s how they connect. Juxtaposed to Karan who isn’t ready to open up about little things, essentially they’re strangers who live in the same house. Karan gaslights her a lot. While zain is constantly hearing taunts from his in laws. Cheating is obviously wrong, but it’s was very realistic and nuanced in the way it was portrayed

As much as I agree no one should be glorifying or justifying cheating at the same time one shouldn’t glorifying or justify toxic and unhealthy relationships. In our culture we normalize unhealthy relationships. Everyday arguments, fights on regular basis are considered normal in relationships. We normalize poor treatment of partners saying this is what it is to be married. But that’s not it when you are with the right person in a healthy relationship. When I saw your review I totally agreed with you about a female equally supporting her male partner‘s dream or that Sidhant should be thankful to Ananya and her family for his success. But then after watching the movie when I totally got a different view. I have to differ with you. I think to support a partners passion one need to make that sort of money when you don’t it just adds pressure and stress and also Deepika‘s partner wasn’t thankful as much as he should be he doesn’t treat her well, like what does he bring to the table? He can’t even take the trash out, he talks to her poorly. She is supporting him but he considers reading his draft to Ananya instead of Deepika how disrespectful that and i would consider emotional cheating. The same implies to Siddhant Ananya‘s mom always talks down to him and disrespects him and Ananya doesn’t defend up until the end. I’m not saying any of it justifies their action of cheating that is down right disgusting but also why nobody is talking about that why everybody saying it’s normal and that’s how relationships are. Trust me that’s not normal that’s not how healthy relationships look like. It’s not all roses it’s not all perfect and happy all the time but if your sad days are over shadowing your happy days then it’s time to walk away and also acknowledge them and not glorify saying that’s what happens in every relationship. I read a few comments where people are saying my mom and dad fight every day but they are still together after 30 years well that’s not great or healthy. When two human beings live together there is going to be differences but the thing that makes it healthy and worth making the relationship work is how you are treated how you sort those difference out how you communicate without disrespecting or belittling your partner which lacks in our society.

Gehraiyaan is a very intriguing film and I would want everyone to watch it. The movie hasn't glorified cheating. I would rather add something to your defenition of glorification- if there is a solid reason behind two people cheating on their partners with each other, with every/most circumstance justifying the situations that made them cheat and if the whole process of cheating is portrayed as 'a perfectly fine thing to happen', then it is being glorified. Gehraiyaan doesn't do that. I would not specify any gender in particular, but people intend to find partners who complete their incompleteness. Say you come from a financially downward environment, money would be more of an ambition and you tend to find someone wealthy in a way 'attractive', you have been bodyshamed in the past, you tend to find someone good looking attractive, you are not ambitious- it's possible for you to find hardworking goal achievers attractive and that's not something secluded to any gender. Both Alisha and Zain have backstories from childhood that makes them vulnerable to each other. Again, this is no reason to cheat on each other's partners and the film has taken a path where one would sink into the depth of emotions each character of the film if you are thoroughly invested. I think the film shouldnt have received a backlash before its release as the sole purpose of a trailer is not to tell a complete story but to put out bits that would make audience eager to watch something and understand the plot.

In mythology, Indra's wife Tara tries to cheats on him - she tries to get with Chandra. One can see the celestial occurrence where a star keeps going nearer and nearer to the moon in the night sky and this is how the story came about. This particular story of infidelity isn't thought of as cheating, it is thought of as love that transcends the bounds of marriage where the two lovers constantly try to come together like forever, but can't - Indra interferes and Tara has to disappear, disappointed. This is eternal, celestial, forbidden love. This story is from Indian mythology only.

What Bollywood needs are movies/series where they show that it is possible for two people of opposite sex to be each other's support through difficult times without any romantic involvement. That would be a novel and mature representation of relationships which will set a good example. If Deepika and Zain both were traumatized, they could have empathized with each other and find a way past these traumas bonding in the meantime. On the other hand, Deepika's boyfriend could have gained insight from Tia's feeback of his book showing another such relationship. After all, it is possible for us to bond with people other than out spouses on common interests.Zain could have invested in Deepika's business and possibly help her end her unhappy relationship.Deepika could have made some meaningful impact in his life too. And they could have all parted ways as true friends. (Something like that)

It's so silly to call Alisha a "gold digger".. a "gold digger" who looks like Deepika did in this movie won't stay a month with a struggler! It's hard to blv that she wouldn't have come across any rich man interested in her in 6 years.. It was so clear that these guys were out of love ..even Karan wouldn't show his gf the draft despite her asking repeatedly. Alisha on the other hand seems to be sharing her progress on the app regularly with her bf. Be it a woman or a man, i feel financial security is important. Both of them have their passion projects , but one continues her regular job to support her (and her partner's)living while the other just left his job to write his first novel! And these are 30yr olds ACC to the movie description, not some teenagers figuring out their passions. It's not the reason for cheating, but can be a reason for breakup anyway.

I request all these new self proclaimed feminist modern actresses to not to pollute the minds of young girls by telling them that it’s their choice to have a relationship outside the marriage, - it’s not, it was never and it will never be… it’s not normal and never justified! Since our child hood we have been taught that cheating is wrong! Having a relationship outside marriage is called ‘cheating’ for a reason, it wrong no matter what the reason is.

Great review! This movie is a classical example of how marketing and PR can ruin the prospects of a movie by focusing on the wrong elements. This is a great story with elements of betrayal, trauma, the associated guilt and its lifelong consequences. However, all of that is sidelined due to the extensive focus and hype built around the intimate scenes which dont really add much to the story. All in all impressed by the kind of movies Shakun Batra makes.

Cheating is disrespectful towards the partner who trusts you and is unnecessary. Just have an honest discussion and end it before going ahead with someone else. After all, if you get attracted to someone else and decide to act upon it despite having a relationship, you clearly don't love your partner to begin with. Set them also free from you so they can find someone who genuinely wants to be with them. Allow them to find their own happiness as well. Disloyalty isn't cool. And a relationship is a decision we make to stay loyal to our partner. If there are issues, they need to be discussed. No relationship is perfect. If you decide to go for someone else, it simply means you'll have other types of fights over other kinds of issues. The points of conflict change. That's the only difference.

Yes in Instance 2 Alisha got irritated mainly after that Karan was able to show Tia his draft but Deepika had been asking for it since a long time and he kept refusing. Later also it was shown Karan started hiding things from her like the emails he floated to Tia for draft review. The reason for cheating in the movie was when one partner starts taking undue advantage of your trust and time.

You forgot that deepikas bf also had one more imp issue - he didn't value her, she kept asking him to share his progress with her he refused eveytime, but then he shared it with ananya and took feedback frm her as well.. he ill treated her n said things like thoda kam hoke rahogi to mar nahi jaogi etc.. this made her stop loving him and she fell for the otger guy easily.. money angle cud be one more reason additionally for her cannot deny that completely but her bf ws not just a bechara unsuccessful guy, he ws disrespectful and didnt show her any value..

I watched gehrayian after this review and i must say that cheating was in no way glorified in this movie.. i could feel the misery that depika's character went through and what she paid for having an affair with her cousin's fiancee ... depika had lead character but it did not mean that she was a hero. There was a message for audience that how toxic can such relationship become if it is wrong from the very begining

Actually... Before watching the movie even I was prejudice about it that is will be only about portraying cheating as cool and all just about bold scenes but NO, it's NOT! There is so much relatable with now a days relationship and how actually misunderstandings, a little lose of self control and circumstances make a situation so much worse and a person so miserable... It was great to watch it... And most importantly, if someone don't find anything relatable in this or if that did not like it for what so ever reason doesn't mean that others who actually liked are trying to gain any sort of validation or Trying to be cool... Better present your opinion but keep some space for others' opinion too...

Instance 2. Actually they show that she is mad because he won’t share his script no matter how many times she asks him, but Tia has already read it. She feels emotionally cheated. She just wanted to escape, because she says multiple times she doesn’t want to be stuck. So it’s not that straightforward.

Apne partner par cheat karne ka koi bhi valid reason nahi hota hai. Agar apka partner toxic hai, yaa fir non caring yaa fir ab apko apne relationship mein vo phele wala spark feel nahi hota etc etc you cannot cheat your partner instead you should end that relationship and then should start looking for a new partner.

Ok let's take an example of what you said on many youtubers are saying giving an example of movies like biwi number 1 and no entry. Glorification not only means that the person is been shown in a happy state but even if you sympathize the character or you present the character as a sympathetic one and that he has some reason to do is wrong deeds, it is also a part of glorification. Now the example you have given all the movies like biwi number 1 and no entry, in that movie Anil Kapoor aur Salman Khan were never portraited sympathetically Or never presented by any reason that justifies what they are doing they were clearly portrayed wrong.

Yeah, I think generally such people think, they don’t have control in the relationship, so they want to take control by cheating on the person. Which is obviously wrong, but that is how they justify to themselves. He doesn’t have the guts to break off with Tia, but he wants to also have the power in the relationship.

I would like to add to what you said: As you correctly pointed out cheating is a reality and we dont live in an ideal world. Now coming back to the movie I feel this was one of the most aesthetically pleasing movies and every frame is beautiful. Also, Alisha's character is someone who has lived with childhood trauma and all she wants is security and love. The thought that she cheated because of only financial security is wrong, in many scenes its shown that she is neglected by her partner and their relation also lacks emotional intimacy. Regarding Zain's character, he was a pathological liar, but it is up to us as viewers to decide whether or not he was ever faithful to or in love with Alisha, but I think thats the beauty of this movie it makes u think and has many open ended thoughts that it leaves u with. As a movie, I think it was a great effort, and I hope that people will at least see it without any preconceived notions.

Yes I too judged the movie on a very surface level in the beginning. But it kind of made more sense later. To me all of them turned out to be ppl they were trying not to be. i.e their parents. This could have been better made, the parts with Shah and Padukone stood out to me. That could have been the story stringing all the stories together. I was waiting for Shah to appear more and more but they wanted to take it the glamour direction I guess and that irked me way too much!
