As a non-technical non mechanically minded person who just knows the very basics about a car engine, who'd LOVE to own this Mustang, I'd have taken into consideration certain things before trying to start it. For starters (no pun intended) you're intending on doing a full restoration aren't you? First I'd check the damn thing turns over B4 trying to start it up! You'll have to replace most of the ancillary/auxiliary bits that support the engine block. So I would have brought with me, plugs, points, rotor arm, distributor cap and leads, new fuel, fuel filter/s, fuel pump, coil, starter motor, battery, solenoid, etc. You would be replacing them anyway on a full restoration, plus you'd have saved all those extra trips back to get this stuff. I might be "one spanner short of a toolbox" mechanically speaking but I do know about preparation. I'd also have sought the help of another mechanical minded person in case I was forgetting stuff! If I'd been treating a patient and I had to keep going back & forth for instruments I'd appear incompetent by my lack of preparation! However, I did enjoy watching your video, which did show the orderly way to proceed when faced with this problem. ( I would've had an auto-electrician with me ). If only you'd had the forethought to bring electrical stuff you'll be replacing anyway - yeah you did mention you were given the wrong plugs. I'd have removed one and taken it with me - but that's me. Good luck with the restoration though. I for one would love to see it fully restored. An in-law of mine has a '64 Mustang soft top fully restored and driven lots. So regards from the U.K. Posted 19th October 2021.

You should have started testing before throwing parts at it. you didnt even check for power at the coil, just turn the key on, grab that test light and check for power at the positive side of the coil, you dont even have to crank it over, just pop the distributor cap off and open and close the points to see if you have spark. its that simple, understanding ignition systems is your first start. A little bit of information, You can have all the spark, good gas, but if the timing is off, or the plugs are fouled, its not going to start. I need to start a video channel, seen way to many videos with no diagnosis.

Check and clean the points and get a jumper pack or leads to boost your battery power, just because a battery is new doesn't mean that it's fully charged.

Build or go buy you a stater button and hook it to the cyleniod on the fender well so you won't have to chase the ignition switch.

It's a lot of fun, but a waste of money when the whole car needs to be restored from top to bottom...

I'm not game with a number of big channels that try and start old cars sitting with old wires, plugs cap and rotors. Do the new and try, do the oil before you try and long and the engine turns. I can see you need to learn a couple trouble shooting skills but you will get there if that is your goal.

Why piss away money on all that new stuff if the engine is junk? I agree the top end should be lubed up before but if oil has no water and it has decent spark let her rip 🤷🏻♂️

Add oil to cylinders before starting

Needs a starter dude, you won't have spark if is doesn't turn over fast enough
