We went with the Supair Strike 2 in part because of the [mini] seatboard as a good compromise to transition, and can always remove the seatboard to get a feeling for seatboardless flight. And it's already light and small, so it's no detriment on that side. Win win with this design, we think!

I was reluctant to go from a seat board pod over to a hammock pod.. However I wanted to drop some weight, so I had a go in the advance weightless, which doesn't have a seat board.. it was fantastic!! And I felt more connected to the wing, as i wasnt being slopped around on a seat board. Even though the weightless is a hammock the way its been designed with the rucksack under the seat.. it gives great support in the seat. its been the best of all worlds for me..

Fact. All DHV rating tests are done UPRIGHT sitting in with seat board. Pod harnesses and or leaning backwards can, have and will change the wing behavior and test results into worse. For cliff soaring and or flying in close proximity to ground, stay away from any pod harness. Just another two and a half cent.

Interesting vid Carlo. I did an SIV last year on the Advance Lightness 3 and although nervous about it being a hammock, found it okay. I then switched to a Delight 3 for a bit , but happily went back to the Advance when I flogged the Supair. I’m not a fan of being too reclined anyway and was certainly sitting up legs crossed on the SIV, so it’ll interesting to see how I fare when I get a blowout for real.

Fact of the matter is that the safety ratings tests are all done with a UPRIGHT SITTING harness and 45cm strep distance. Most wings perform more "badly" with a pod harness.

Flying Zeolite GT + Advance lightness 3 (before I flew Zeno, Enzo 2) Never felt so connected with the wing. The seatboard-less harness have super contact with whole body. I learned and can do any SIV manuever and never felt safety compromise. Done that with all wings I mentioned. But I understand its not for everyone and it also depends on your bodyshape. I dont see any safety issues if rescue can be deployed safely in case of high G incident. (was issue with some hammock types).

Thanks Carlos. Yeah I've got a seat board pod harness but I bought a string harness (cheap) just for boating around on dunes and for ground handling. I found I wasn't ground handling as much as I wanted to just because it was so awkward with a big thing dangling between my legs and the seatboard bashing my thighs. And the balls thing of course.

I've been debating this exact topic recently, and found that cutting my seat-board down a few centimetres in width was the key. S, M or L just doesn't fit well enough along the thighs. But now, my harness hugs me better, while I can still twitch my bum a tiny amount, and see some instant weight-shift response. 🤩👍👍

Nothing said about spirals stability differences with seat board and without. So if you are in hammock, you will be centered in auto-rotation situation, and it would be easier to quit this mode. But in seat-boarded harness you will get overwhelmed to the rotation side, so it will be harder (and maybe difficult for newbie) to exit

Hello Carlo, one question regarding pod setup: how far does one need to lie back? It feels really weird to lie back so much to have my shoulders under the carabiner (Delight 3), but my instructor explained that from a roll perspective it's better to have more mass closer to the roll axis, and I can always sit up if I need to handle other kinds of emergencies. What do you think? What is the appropriate set-up for a pod harness?

I only flew a leg harness once and it was so damn uncomfortable I was glad it was a sledder! Of course I do have hip bursitis so that may have been a factor. On the same note, my DIY kiting and beach hop harness is a leg harness, but the inside of the leg parts are solid plastic (made from tobacco tins) so are more comfortable and don't give that "getting squashed" feeling. An interesting statistic would be male leg harness users percentage, compared to female. I think the numbers will be vastly different. We do have hips gents!

Will the Success5 be good for coastal soaring using the Skywalk Tonic2 small? Or will it be to weightshifty? Or is it better to dig deep in the pocket and buy a splitleg like easiness 3/breeze as a complement to my Success5?

Is it ok to remove the seatboard temporarily? Say for ground handling or some scenario where you will be running around a lot.
